Does anyone want a thread for people who are happy for Harry and Meghan?

Just seeing if there’s any interest. I think they have their faults but I think this may turn out to be a good thing long term. Anyone want to join in?

Not exactly happy but supportive.

Sausagewrole · 17/01/2020 13:49

I’m pretty ambivalent towards the whole thing, but think the treatment of Meghan in the press is appalling and the level of vitriol towards her on some of the threads here is just as bad.
The way I see it is a couple want to break free of the confines of a family business that they had no say in joining, and try something different.

Meghan seems intelligent, ambitious and cares for her husband and child, traits I am sure most people would encourage, but for her seems to be attracting criticism.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 17/01/2020 13:50

Well it would make a change from the vitriol being spewed on other threads.

5zeds · 17/01/2020 13:51

Seem nice enough. Crack on and live your life how you want to.

Whatnowagnes · 17/01/2020 13:58

I'm happy that they've made a good decision for them. The British press is truly revolting and cannot be allowed to continue being so vile.

I think Meghan is great; a strong, opinionated, intelligent, warm woman and wish them all the luck. I'm sad to lose her and Harry as I hoped they would change the monarchy.

I think it would have been good if Kate and William had spoken up in support of Harry and Meghan in their position of total media support. Id be disappointed if family stayed silent on such outright racism and bullying.
I certainly have a lesser opinion of them.

NotNowPlzz · 17/01/2020 14:00

Harry has been through A LOT. She has been through A LOT. Good on them for putting their mental health first. 100% support and all the people who are moaning need to get a life.

PatienceofAngels · 17/01/2020 14:03

What is there to be happy for them about?
They're rich but not satisfied with that so want to dump the workload so they can exploit their privilege to get richer.
I don't dislike either of them, just don't understand what OP is happy about.

TheNavigator · 17/01/2020 14:05

I have been quite disturbed by the vitriol on some threads and despite protests to the contrary, undoubtedly some posts have contained dogwhistle veiled racism and overt misogyny.

So I am team M&H if I am team anyone, though not really a royalist at all. But I doubt a positive thread will get the same traction. A cabal of posters are egging themselves on with glee to speculate every more wildly and unpleasantly. Vague support bordering on indifference will not generate as many posts Grin

helpfulperson · 17/01/2020 14:08

definitely think they are doing the right thing for them.

DaveCoaches · 17/01/2020 14:09

It’s a bit like the Father Ted protest signs Navigator Grin

I've reported several threads/posts. Alas, MNHQ are happy to let them stand.

Pingue · 17/01/2020 14:25

It’s not that I’m not happy for them. I just think they’re wrong and greedy to expect to step down but still retain titles, and doubly wrong to attempt to monetise those titles. If they want to walk away and just be private citizens then good luck to them.

IrregularCommentary · 17/01/2020 14:26

I don't get the hand-wringing and angst. A lot of the papers in the UK have been absolutely poisonous about Meghan. Harry hates the press and the limelight anyway, why would he want to stay when he's already said he's worried the press will do the same to his wife as they did his mother.

Good luck to them, you only get one life.

Apileofballyhoo · 17/01/2020 14:35

I wish them well.

Inkanta · 17/01/2020 14:47

The vindictiveness of the tabloid press and Piers Morgan has been chilling. They assume they can get away with it, and make make ridiculous excuses and think there'll be no come back - because it's the Royal Family. Harry and Meghan had no choice but to set their boundaries and move on - it had gone too far. I admire their courage.

Inkanta · 17/01/2020 14:52

The British press is truly revolting and cannot be allowed to continue being so vile.

Yes definately!

AuntieStella · 17/01/2020 14:55

If they want to leave, then thatMs fine, and I wish them every happiness.

I don't think half in /half out is remotely tenable.

And they did not handle the announcement at all well

AutumnCat · 17/01/2020 15:00

I'm happy for them. Yes they're extremely rich and materially privileged, but, as we all know, money doesn't buy happiness, and they've both really struggled in the past. I think the royal life must be horrific and I think anyone who has the guts to try and escape it definitely deserves my best wishes!

However I guess being nice about people isnt as fun as tearing them to pieces, which means it doesn't sell in the media... and won't generate 8 threads here... Hmm

CeibaTree · 17/01/2020 15:02

I feel that they were badly let down by members of the Royal Family. Surely the RF all have some press contacts and could have put pressure on the press to back off a bit or at least to run some more positive stories. And if the queen or PC had issued a strongly worded statement asking for people to leave Meghan alone in terms of all the anonymous online bullying, that may have given some people pause for thought. Anyway I have no strong feelings of like or dislike for Harry and Meghan. I hope they will be happy in their new life, but I do not necessarily need to hear about it as they have no bearing on my life whatsoever - so I hope the British Press will leave them alone now. But sadly I doubt it.

TheNavigator · 17/01/2020 15:07

The vindictiveness of the tabloid press and Piers Morgan has been chilling

Piers Morgan has been unbelievable. It is quite scary that he has a platform to continually and so nastily smear, insult and harass a woman who has committed no actual crime. You would think there would be some sort of law against it.

TossACoinToYourWitcher · 17/01/2020 15:10

I'm pretty ambivalent about them but the stuff I've seen on some threads has been horrendous. There's a lot of overly invested and bitter people around. Some of the stuff I've seen reminds me of teenage girls in terms of bitchiness. It's tragic.

SF1269 · 17/01/2020 15:12

Piers Morgan should be charged with harassment, he is utterly vile about Meghan, I really don’t understand how he has not been sacked, people have lost their jobs for saying a lot less.

I hope Harry and Meghan will be happy and successful in their new life.

SF1269 · 17/01/2020 15:17

Also agree that William and Kate’s and Charles silence was deafening, shocking that they never uttered one word of support in public for Harry and his family.

Roussette · 17/01/2020 15:18

Happy for them is not the words I would use, but I am relieved they are getting out and away from the vitriol.

Piers Morgan is disgusting. He tweeted a picture of a message from her from six years ago. Who keeps messages that long? He's a stalker. I've never liked him but now my opinion of him is in the gutter, vile man.

SenecaFalls · 17/01/2020 15:21

I wish them well. I've been stunned at the nastiness of some of the threads on MN. I've hidden most of them.
