Does anyone want a thread for people who are happy for Harry and Meghan?

Just seeing if there’s any interest. I think they have their faults but I think this may turn out to be a good thing long term. Anyone want to join in?

I feel sorry for them and wish them all the luck and happiness in the world.

Piers Morgan is terrifying to me - a stalker, in my opinion. Made perfect sense when it emerged they'd chatted then met, he thought they were besties, then felt slighted and started stalking her in my opinion.

I'm really interested in why you might be happy for them?
I've never really been bothered by the Royal family either way but I do see why people are considering it a 'having your cake...' situation. As a result I'm intrigued as to why others dont?

Samcro · 17/01/2020 15:28

i like them and am a bit sad at what has happened, but don't blame them, the way Meghan especially has been treated by the press and the level of hate shown to her is horrid.
you only have to look on here to see how vile people are being. its awful and I imagine very damaging.

moresugarpls · 17/01/2020 15:29

They've been through a lot. I wish them well.

FreyaMountstuart · 17/01/2020 15:32

Live overseas and we Brits have been asked to explain why all the fuss re Harry & Meghan - none of us can (except maybe fuelled by racist U.K. press) - all of us agree that let them get on with what is best for them (just like the rest of us try!)

EdithWeston · 17/01/2020 15:32

"Surely the RF all have some press contacts"

That's the 'rota' which M&H want nothing further to do with

"and could have put pressure on the press to back off a bit"

They did, during the Prince's boyhood, but not when they moved into senior Royal positions

"or at least to run some more positive stories"

That would be bang out of order. Neither Crown nor Government wouid be silly enough to try to influence the press that way - it wouid be a major story in itself.

I don't think Meghan copped it any worse that any of the others who have married in since about the 1980s. The difference here is that she has a husband who doesn't just expect her to put up and shut up,because it's always like that. Instead, they are planning to leave.

I really hope it goes well for them. But they need to drop this idea that they can be collaborators (to use their terminology). I think they should just leave.

roundtable · 17/01/2020 15:33

The people on those threads are bonkers.

Opinions given as facts. Basing whole arguments on a camera angle/snapshot and 'sources' aka someone working at the paper.

I couldn't say I'm happy as I don't know them. They might be terrible people or lovely. Who knows? I certainly don't.

Every few months groups of posters go on the attack about people. Like the mad ones obsessed by Liam and Harry (maybe it's the name?!). Although that thread was just hilariously dotty not spiteful and damaging like those threads going at the moment. Imagine of you read that about yourself constantly. I'd leave the country too. Devastating.

LouMumsnet · 17/01/2020 15:33

Hi there, @DaveCoaches - we're just bobbing on here to say we're moving the thread over to the royal family topic which is probably the best place for it long term.

Hope that makes sense. Smile

SenecaFalls · 17/01/2020 15:38

I don't think it's "having your cake." I think they are trying to escape a toxic atmosphere while still maintaining some role in the RF. I imagine that if that balancing act does not work out, they may opt out as working royals completely.

The misogyny in some of the MN threads is astonishing to me. So many "Meghan stole our prince" type posts, as though Harry has no autonomy at all.

I don’t get why people are so bothered by a couple they don’t know, some of the vitriol on this website has been awful and pretty much always to her! She’s a strong minded woman (plus that institution is archaic) and I’ve always found her to be very compassionate and intelligent.

MarshaBradyo · 17/01/2020 15:42

Initially sounded good, anything to move on from RF as it is. Then a bit hmm about using brand as asset. Then ambivalent and finally neutral.

I’m neither happy for them nor down on them.

SenecaFalls · 17/01/2020 15:42

I agree that other married-in women (never the men, it seems) got a hard time in the press, too. But they didn't have to deal with racism.

Mummyme87 · 17/01/2020 15:45

Let them crack on. Their life their choice. They are moving to Canada, not the moon

WheresMyChocolate · 17/01/2020 15:45

They're following my example, leaving the country to get away from overbearing family. I wish them well.

The British media are a disgrace and need to fuck off.

fallfallfall · 17/01/2020 15:47

I’m really hopeful that it all works out for them. I really think all the minor royals Beatrice Eugene etc should all be fully independent. More in line with the other European royal families.

Puppywithattitude · 17/01/2020 15:48

What makes them think that the attention they get will be any more positive just because they are relocating?
It appears that they will be doing similar things that they have been doing previously, just being more choosy and earning more? Coverage in the press is still likely to be mixed?

Alwaysrainsonme · 17/01/2020 15:48

I would be happy for them if I genuinely believed that they want to step away from being royal and live as private citizens. But I think they want to exploit their royal status whilst doing no royal work and live free of the constraints imposed on other royals.

Will be happy for them if they prove me wrong!

FairyLightsAreMyCrack · 17/01/2020 15:49

I've reported several threads/posts. Alas, MNHQ are happy to let them stand.

Yes I also pointed out to @MNHQ that it's beginning to look like the daily fail comment section but like a lot of the other bullying, racism, xenophobia etc etc they seem fine with it.

DaveCoaches · 17/01/2020 15:50

Of course, thanks @LouMumsnet Smile

I really don't care for the royals. I don't blame them for wanting to leave though. Suprised they've not done it sooner

StarbucksSmarterSister · 17/01/2020 15:50

One person on one of the other threads e mailed a journo pretending to be from Meghan's office or something! Raving nutcase.

FairyLightsAreMyCrack · 17/01/2020 15:52

Lol WHAT?!! Grin On the one hand it's hilarious, but in the other really quite worrying how some people feel they know these people.

LizzieSiddal · 17/01/2020 15:55

Yes the press in this country are despicable. They don't care if they ruin lives. And all the journos I've seen on on TV or heard on the radio justify it by saying "Well Fergie, Diana and Kate put up with it" As if that makes it ok!

And of course lots blame Meghan, despite the fact Harry has been on record stating he wishes he could live in a different country!

I wish them both well.
