Harry and Meghan Resigning (Act 6 Scene 2) Is Everyone Okay?

This is Thread Eight in a series which I did not imagine would last more than one.

Meghan's friends are now writing on social media that she has been fortunate to "escape the clutches" of the Royal Family.

We, who care enough for the Queen that we are appalled by Meghan's blatant disrespect for the Crown (and the family which embraced her) are still reeling as we go from revelation to revelation. This bizarre and unprecedented situation has unfolded over a period of just eight days.

We are now beginning to see what Meghan's likely agenda was. It seems that abandoning the UK was her plan even prior to the wedding - a wedding which cost the British people £20,000,000.

Not many people actually begrudged paying that £20,000,000. But some were prescient enough to say that the marriage would not last and that Meghan would abandon this country once she had a child.

She has. She has fulfilled those prognostications amply.

It was just rather...quicker than perhaps we had imagined...…. and a good deal more brutal. Cries of "racism" have abounded - cries which are simply not justified.

What will happen next? Meghan has gone to Canada, a country which does not seem particularly keen to foot the huge bill for security which her presence requires. She is dropping in on charities for disadvantaged women, almost unannounced, without the backing or knowledge of Buckingham Palace. It is cringeworthy and embarrassing in the extreme.

Prince Harry seems to be lost in the maelstrom of public opinion. What will happen next? Will Meghan announce a second pregnancy?

And is the RF okay?

It seemed to me a bit like she was holding Archie hostage until he made the deal, but good point re the planning and Harry presumably being happy they are away. I wonder if he had planned for it to take so long though, they left Archie behind and made their plans seem so easy on their website. I'm sure it's come as a surprise to him that he can't just get whatever he wants on a plate, and that there are laws, and rules and bills and stuff to consider that he has previously been sheltered from.

The80sweregreat · 18/01/2020 15:49

I did read that P Andrew didn't like Meghan much.. would make sense if they had met before or something... plot thickens if they did meet at some stage and they both agreed to keep quiet? Or she wasn't aware of who he was?..
Seems bonkers really to even think this but P A did spend a lot of time in America.
He is a lot older than her but they might have moved in similar circles or he'd heard about her , but never met her?

Butterymuffin · 18/01/2020 15:51

Has any evidence of her supposed Epstein connection been found? Where's that story from?

GlitchStitch · 18/01/2020 15:56

I don't see how Meghan thinks going rogue in Canada, with the set up photos and adhoc appearances is going to help negotiations. You'd think she'd lie low whilst they are still going on, especially if one of the sticking points is what ventures the royal brand is associated with, and her due diligence of these organisations doesn't seem to have extended much further than a quick email from a Hotmail account. I'm really intrigued by what she's thinking, or if she even informed Harry what she was going to be doing.

There was a blind article last year that (allegedly) MM had dipped her toe in the water of making money from her RF status during the Africa Tour. It was during the time that Harry went it alone to do the land mine stuff in Angola and MM was having "private time" in South Africa. Apparently people paid to attend one of her "private" events in Cape Town and she made $250,000.

IrmaFayLear · 18/01/2020 16:17

The "forensic" examination of their visits and deals is clearly unworkable - they have shown that they can do what they like. And any removal of titles will make the rf look mean and H&M as the victims.

I can't see how there is any out of it but to give H&M exactly what they want. I believe the sticking point must be the security, because since it's a direct taxpayer expense, to pick up the whole tab will be a) outrageous - especially if they are coining it in with lucrative deals and b) make the rf look weak. I expect desperate calls are being made to Trudeau to persuade him (Canadian taxpayers) to chip in.

I also wouldn't be surprised if there is some fudgy announcement - exactly echoing the Sussexroyal stuff - agreeing to bankroll everything until they are financially independent, which they expect to be "soon". And they'll hope we'll all forget to keep an eye on the bank statement.

Wow. And there was me thinking she was supposed to be there to highlight the plight of the poor. Shock

Afrigginggoat · 18/01/2020 16:19

I expect Charles has changed his will. Highgrove was going to be for Harry but I suspect it's either been left to Charlotte or Archie now

beanaseireann · 18/01/2020 16:24

I think Harry was taken for a ride.
I just hope it was worth it.
Smile or Sad depending on your viewpoint.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 18/01/2020 16:26

It honestly looks to me like Meghan is holding the whole RF to ransom, including her child.

WineOrGinOrBoth · 18/01/2020 16:27

From a sibling & parents & friends POV it must be sickening to knowingly attend a wedding which you suspect will end up as a car crash.

NumbersStation · 18/01/2020 16:29

Well let us just hope that good ole Mm is squeakier than squeaky clean because If she isn’t, it won’t take long for the truth to come out. Let us see if auld Hal is still as foofstruck then.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/01/2020 16:29

Exactly

FWIW I agreee about the issue of the security costs, but as said there's nothing to stop the Queen making a big thing out of "paying for everything herself" and then finding a way to charge it back to the taxpayer ... given the nature of the RF's finances, who would ever know?

Never forget that their priority, first, last and always is their own interests, and this situation will be no different to all the others in that respect

GlitchStitch · 18/01/2020 16:30

If true that's shocking. I don't get how that could happen though, don't they have royal 'people' around them constantly on official tours?

There do seem to be such an abundance of stories, rumours and anecdotes from so many different sources though, I think at some point the shit is really going to hit the fan and they will rue the day they opted out of the royal rota and protection it affords, and chose to fuck off the media!

phpolly · 18/01/2020 16:33

Marmalade that's quite interesting

beanaseireann · 18/01/2020 16:33

Another new word I've learned from the Mumsnet Lexicon- foofstruck.
Love it. Smile

There is literally zero evidence for the yacht girl stuff and is pretty misogynist rumour tbh.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 18/01/2020 16:41

She’s a perfectly normal, middle class graduate

I think middle class is pushing it, to be honest. She seems to have come from quite a modest background on both sides. Unless middle class means something very different in the US.

MissEliza · 18/01/2020 16:42

@GlitchStitch I'd have thought laying low would have been the smart thing to do.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 18/01/2020 16:43

I think the yacht girl stuff is tosh.

There are enough genuine reasons to have reservations about her without people making stuff up.

GlitchStitch · 18/01/2020 16:44

Yeah I don't get it MissEliza, she managed to lie low for the 6/7 weeks, what's a few more? It's just so attention seeking and unnecessary.

I have really enjoyed these threads, but am concerned that they are descending into frequent posts repeating the very worst unfounded internet rumours.

It's almost as if posters wanted to get the thread pulled

FiveTwoFaster · 18/01/2020 16:52

I think she’s more or less middle class isn’t she? Private schools, father had quite a good and fairly well paid job as director of photography and I think as a lighting director, he won a couple of Emmies. He doesn’t seem to have much of a life now but I think she was well provided for as a child? Not wealthy but her education was expensive and her father (I don’t know about Doria) was a successful professional.

I agree it’s not a Hyacinth Bucket middle class though.
