Harry and Meghan Resigning (Act 6 Scene 2) Is Everyone Okay?

This is Thread Eight in a series which I did not imagine would last more than one.

Meghan's friends are now writing on social media that she has been fortunate to "escape the clutches" of the Royal Family.

We, who care enough for the Queen that we are appalled by Meghan's blatant disrespect for the Crown (and the family which embraced her) are still reeling as we go from revelation to revelation. This bizarre and unprecedented situation has unfolded over a period of just eight days.

We are now beginning to see what Meghan's likely agenda was. It seems that abandoning the UK was her plan even prior to the wedding - a wedding which cost the British people £20,000,000.

Not many people actually begrudged paying that £20,000,000. But some were prescient enough to say that the marriage would not last and that Meghan would abandon this country once she had a child.

She has. She has fulfilled those prognostications amply.

It was just rather...quicker than perhaps we had imagined...…. and a good deal more brutal. Cries of "racism" have abounded - cries which are simply not justified.

What will happen next? Meghan has gone to Canada, a country which does not seem particularly keen to foot the huge bill for security which her presence requires. She is dropping in on charities for disadvantaged women, almost unannounced, without the backing or knowledge of Buckingham Palace. It is cringeworthy and embarrassing in the extreme.

Prince Harry seems to be lost in the maelstrom of public opinion. What will happen next? Will Meghan announce a second pregnancy?

And is the RF okay?

Just announced on BBC that they'll no longer use HRH and won't receive funding for royal appointments?

Nah. Harry's stuck in the UK until this agreement can be worked out (in their favour). Letting Frogmore Cottage go and the staff is a sure sign he's leaving.

I think DeRigeurMortis is correct: precedent is a stumbling block. I think H&M will be able to rake in the cash and in fact not need the UK to pay for protection before long, but they do need the titles and they don't want anyone "forensically examiniing" their monetising enterprises.

It's been said that HMQ would've been much more suited to life as a landed aristocrat free to manage a country estate and have a career with horses.

And Philip would have preferred to continue his career in the Navy, where he supposedly had good prospects for promotion, but had to give it up when the king died young.

According to Channel 4 News there is a statement out tonight saying that they're renouncing their HRH titles and repaying the costs of Frogmore renovations.
Interesting.

😁

Will no longer formally represent the Queen.

I think it’s all for the best. I’m surprised they’re losing their HRH as I thought the hints were that they wouldn’t. But you can’t have your cake and eat it I guess. Brings the U.K. royal family into line with some of the other European royal families where only someone who will one day be king/Queen get HRH.

They've lost their HRH! I'm glad of this. It's the appropriate thing to do.

There is a very interesting piece in the Telegraph today by Anna Pasternak. She has written a book on the Duchess of Windsor and was looking at the parallels with Meghan and, in this article, between the Duke of Windsor and Harry. After he had abdicated and was living in France, the Duke was lost. He had nothing to do and was reduced to bumbling around after Wallis bugging her

I wonder if the Queen said to Harry “look, I’ve seen it all before with your great great uncle David and...that woman. He thought he didn’t need us but he did.”

I’m quite impressed by the courage of the palace at this point. I think they will live to regret this. And like the prodigal son Harry will get his HRH back when he’s the son of the monarch and post divorce.

Harry and Megs are NOT OK!!!!

😱😱😱

Report

When I said that I thought that Harry was horrified by how this has played out, what I meant was that I do not believe that he thought that Meghan would lose her loyal support so quickly.

I believe that Harry thought that he and Meghan would be lauded and feted for taking this "stand" against the Establishment.

Surely he is at the very least surprised that Meghan has had extremely bad press attention since they made their initial, sudden and unexpected bid to step down from their roles?

If he is reading this (and I wouldn't be surprised if he was) I would imagine that his jaw is dropping.

The repaying bit sounds very unusual- almost punitive.
