Harry and Meghan Resigning (Act 6 Scene 2) Is Everyone Okay?

This is Thread Eight in a series which I did not imagine would last more than one.

Meghan's friends are now writing on social media that she has been fortunate to "escape the clutches" of the Royal Family.

We, who care enough for the Queen that we are appalled by Meghan's blatant disrespect for the Crown (and the family which embraced her) are still reeling as we go from revelation to revelation. This bizarre and unprecedented situation has unfolded over a period of just eight days.

We are now beginning to see what Meghan's likely agenda was. It seems that abandoning the UK was her plan even prior to the wedding - a wedding which cost the British people £20,000,000.

Not many people actually begrudged paying that £20,000,000. But some were prescient enough to say that the marriage would not last and that Meghan would abandon this country once she had a child.

She has. She has fulfilled those prognostications amply.

It was just rather...quicker than perhaps we had imagined...…. and a good deal more brutal. Cries of "racism" have abounded - cries which are simply not justified.

What will happen next? Meghan has gone to Canada, a country which does not seem particularly keen to foot the huge bill for security which her presence requires. She is dropping in on charities for disadvantaged women, almost unannounced, without the backing or knowledge of Buckingham Palace. It is cringeworthy and embarrassing in the extreme.

Prince Harry seems to be lost in the maelstrom of public opinion. What will happen next? Will Meghan announce a second pregnancy?

And is the RF okay?

Beatrice and Eugenie are both HRH but have no protection and aren’t internationally protected people.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 18/01/2020 15:00

I thought Andrew paid for their own private security?

NotHotHair · 18/01/2020 15:04

PH told staff what Meghan wants Meghan gets.

Will Meghan get what she wants from the British taxpayer?

She seems to want royal endorsement without signing up to the club rules. She probably wants to be Queen Bee.

I'd have thought the RF should be in a position to defend themselves and the Monarchy against such shenanigans. Will the government have to agree on any Megsit deal or just HM?

FiveTwoFaster · 18/01/2020 15:07

Sorry, I meant to put taxpayer funded. As in it doesn’t matter if H&M stay HRH as there are a couple of HRHs already who don’t have the state paying for their security.

PH should also step out of being in line to the throne. If he can’t handle the current level of duty, being King would finish him right off.

SingingLily · 18/01/2020 15:11

Beatrice and Eugenie are both HRH but have no protection and aren’t internationally protected people.

They carry out a limited number of official engagements and on those occasions that they do, they are protected by the Royal Protection officers. The rest of the time, they have private security arrangements but I'm quite sure their choices of career have had to be approved by HM.

In any case, they don't flog juicing machines, yoga mats, avocado slicers, paid personal appearances or paid speeches or whatever else MM is planning to do. Nor did they marry into the family. They are flesh and blood granddaughters of the monarch.

The newspapers are, of course, reporting that Andrew's royal protection is under review as he is no longer representing HMQ. His HRH title is probably safe, as the Queen's son, but only if he keeps a low profile.

Froq · 18/01/2020 15:13

Thank you for the necklace explanations.

I suppose what do you get someone who wasn’t satisfied with a multi-million pound wedding, a cottage with millions to refurb it, a clothes allowance, paid for holidays and travel plus priceless jewellery?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/01/2020 15:13

Queen wanting the Palace to have the right of "forensic examination" over any business venture that involves the Royal brand

And what happens if they agree in order to get the best deal from the RF, then just plough ahead with whatever they want to do anyway ... ?

SingingLily · 18/01/2020 15:16

The sad thing, Froq, is that the necklace might well have been the most expensive thing in the designer's handmade collection and would have signified a great deal to her.

Not so much to MM who probably regards it as just today's virtue signalling display and little more than costume jewellery.

MarmaladeTeepee · 18/01/2020 15:17

@Puzzledandpissedoff and then it's treason and the Queen gets to say off with their heads Grin

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 18/01/2020 15:18

M&S or any other brand name you care to mention wouldn't allow a former employee to start a new business trading on their brand.
I totally agree.

Surely Harry's not so dim that he can't see that it's not on?
I think he is actually. I think he's been totally sheltered from the real world and it has never been anticipated that he would really leave 'the firm'.

It clearly never crossed his mind that financial independence means picking up your own security costs, buying, furnishing and running your own home, paying for any employees out of your own pocket. Also paying for your own travel costs etc.

He probably has no idea what intellectual property rights are.

SingingLily · 18/01/2020 15:19

Goodbye HRH titles. That would take the Royal out of Sussex Royal.

Possibly even goodbye Sussex title.

Harry would still be Prince Henry of Wales. MM would be Mrs Wales.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 18/01/2020 15:23

Meghan could so easily have stepped back from royal work on her own if it was so intolerable to her. Harry could have continued with the day job, he didn't need her glued to his side, or shoving in front of him for that matter.

This is all about the money and the attention, and he's a fool if he doesn't see it with the evidence mounting day by day.

MarmaladeTeepee · 18/01/2020 15:24

I used to work for a firm full of very posh people, 90% of whom had attended the Royal Agricultural College (there was a lot of tweed in the office) and several of them knew Harry from his teenage years and the consensus seemed to be he was tolerated because he was royalty but was mainly a bit of a twat. As an aside, one of the people I worked with was wrongly named as being Harry's drug dealer back in the day, so we had a day of paparazzi camped outside the office until they realised they'd got the wrong bloke - hugely exciting.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/01/2020 15:24

Not to the US media, I suspect ... no matter what happens she'll always be "Princess Meghan" to some

I can't quite see them getting the chopping block out, @MarmaladeTeepee, but at least the Queen probably won't have to deal with it much longer

I honestly can’t imagine that the queen would be so stupid as to allow any taxpayer money to fund their lifestyle going forward. It would be seriously detrimental to the popularity of the RF and I just can’t see it happening. I will be shocked.

I agree. Why should UK taxpayers pay when they are not working royals? On the other hand, why should we, Canadian taxpayers, pay? On the other, third hand Grinthey have to have security. I believe there is a real danger keeping Canada as a constitutional monarchy if this is forced on us.

I suspect there will be some arrangement where the cost is split between the Queen, PC, H&M and Canada. However, although you could make an argument for the UK paying, and even Canada paying because the Queen is our Head of State, there is no way on earth that Americans could be expected to pay when H&M eventually move there.

The thing they want most, a photo opportunity.

GlitchStitch · 18/01/2020 15:32

Apparently Harry now hasn't seen Archie for nearly 2 weeks and will be here even longer to deal with discussions. Since Meghan isn't adverse to flying places it would have been a nice thing to maybe come back for a bit to support him, let him and PC see Archie.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 18/01/2020 15:33

Good to see everyone's ok

Agree 100%

If you think about it, he's chosen a wife who would never suit the role of dutiful Queen if he had to step up in the event of a crisis. At least the Queen Mother was up to the task after the abdication.

WineOrGinOrBoth · 18/01/2020 15:34

Chardonnay Spat out my Brew when I read that. So true.

To be fair, they had planned this for months. Secondly they knew they'd get slaughtered in the press and I think H would prefer they are somewhere out of the press scrutiny so he can concentrate on negotiations. I think he would find it too distracting with them around, worrying about them and M 'mental health'. I think she's away with his blessing to be honest.

But I don't get why he's not questioning that she's done unnecessary engagements and smiling for paps while away. Not something anyone with MH issues would choose to do.

CoolCarrie · 18/01/2020 15:41

I notice Meghan ‘s clothes mentioned here. I remember reading how Jackie Kennedy used to sell her clothes, paid for by Onassis, and she would pocket the money for herself!

yolofish · 18/01/2020 15:42

I'm very ok, thanks for asking. had a swishy new haircut and a gorgeous walk on the beach with the dog. I am mentally cleansed and spiritually restored and will devote the rest of my life to bringing stardust to the lives of the little people. Don't bother about thanking me.
