Previous thread

-Today Prince Harry is doing the draw for the Rugby League. (Not sure if it’s a public location but there’s bound to be a lot of press interest)

  • He has said he is going to stay in the UK for a bit longer to thrash out the details of “Megxit”
  • Meghan has been on a second surprise visit in Vancouver
  • Opinion coming out of Canada is that; not only do they not want to fund the Sussexes; having a member of the a Royal Family make Canada their permanent home is not acceptable.

@youcannotbeeserious you just made me snort laugh in a public place

Parker231 · 16/01/2020 08:30

What is arrogant about the visit she made? Have you not thought that they invited her? What would be wrong in the Palace knowing about it?

The80sweregreat · 16/01/2020 08:33

Of course the press will now give William and Kate an easier ride and be even more supportive. If nothing good comes out of it for Harry , it certainly might do for them.
Kate will never do much wrong now!
This can only be a good thing ; I think they might need a bit of a boost as they must be upset too ( plus more work for them as well)
If the Queen wants to keep her brand going she will need them on side and scandal free!
Lots of pressure.

EdithWeston · 16/01/2020 08:34

I hope Prince Harry is spending the weekend with the Tindalls

SingingLily · 16/01/2020 08:35

Have you not thought that they invited her?

The Telegraph reports that the director of the centre received an email just the day before from MM's personal assistant, telling them to expect a visit the next day.

So, no, they didn't invite her. She invited herself.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 16/01/2020 08:37

Meghan invited herself to the 2nd engagement
The charity boss said she received an email from a hotmail account purportedly from Meghan's "assistant" asking for an impromptu visit.
Meghan has form for this; when Meghan was burnishing her CV as a humanitarian; prior to her engagement to Harry, she invited herself to Charities in India and Africa during her holidays from Suits, funded by her, but snapped for her Instagram.

Parker, it was a unsanctioned visit to a random charity.
As a member of the Royal Family she represents them and can't just randomly go somewhere, specially knowing the whole world is watching.

The problem they face is that as minor members of the royal family (if that's what they want to be) they are effectively in a lose lose situation re charity work.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 16/01/2020 08:43

Is everyone OK? Raise your hand...

The80sweregreat · 16/01/2020 08:46

It's fine doing what you want as a unknown but Meghan might be become a security risk for herself ? I assume she has her own protection during these visits but is it really that good? Places not being checked out prior to a visit could be a real risk for her.
It must cause the people in charge of these charities a problem too!
If this carries on like this then she will become a loose cannon and a target and I'm not being hysterical either!

The80sweregreat · 16/01/2020 08:48

I'm ok; bit of a cold coming I think but fighting it off at the moment..
the ones with the flu, I hope your all a lot better now too.

NotJustACigar · 16/01/2020 08:49

The arrogance is breathtaking. I think she just thinks "the plebs like charity work, I'll just get my photo taken at charities and they'll love it"! Did she even make a donation to their cause?

GlitchStitch · 16/01/2020 08:50

Yay found the new thread!

This rogue tour is bizarre. I'm cynical enough to believe it was timed to coincide with W and K's joint engagement yesterday.

But I also really hope that her defenders stop going on about media intrusion now when she is sitting in a private mansion with all the privacy she could ask for and literally invites herself back into the spotlight. The statement from the charity also makes it sound like an official royal visit, referring to 'The Duchess'.

I would really love it if one of these places she invites herself to shows her around, does their thing and then says goodbye without taking any photos, or making a statement afterwards- 'Thank you for coming, but we won't publicise it, we know you want your privacy' What would she do?

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 16/01/2020 08:54

Harry is apparently sticking around to thrash out their severance deal. I sincerely hope the royal aides are paying close attention to these news reports of her popping up everywhere and reading the editorials that go with them, both at home and abroad. Meghan is the loose cannon that Diana was accused of being. Harry is not much better. They are an absolute liability to the royal family.

It's a tightrope walk, separating their working life from their personal one as members of the royal family, but it must be done.

No wonder William is "incandescent with rage". The damage they are doing to the monarchy could end up robbing him of the role he has spent his life preparing for.

The80sweregreat · 16/01/2020 08:55

This is very much what Diana did after her divorce and her HRH was removed.
I'm sure it was a lot more thought out than this , but it reminds me off a time she was doing awareness of land mines. It did a lot of good for that charity , but some people were also questioning her motives as well.
No social media around then , but she did get a lot of press coverage the old fashioned way back then.

NotJustACigar · 16/01/2020 08:56

I can't believe she's arranging these visits using a hotmail account HmmGrin.

Purplecatshopaholic · 16/01/2020 08:57

For someone who couldn’t give much of a shit about the royals, I do read a lot of these threads, lol. The whole thing is just fascinating - can’t wait for the next instalment of Mexit/Harrygate or whatever we are calling it now!

Theromanempire · 16/01/2020 08:57

Can these places that she is visiting refuse her and just reply 'thanks but no thanks' to her request?

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 16/01/2020 08:58

This is very much what Diana did after her divorce and her HRH was removed.

Except Meghan isn't divorced...

fallen121 · 16/01/2020 08:58

I don’t know bout the rest of y’all, but I’m munching popcorn and gleefully addicted to watching this human trainwreck

What she said. I've got that wretched flu thing and its morphed into a bacterial infection which I'm sure could be cured with some antibiotics but it's too hard to get a Doctor's appointment so I'm just waiting it out. We all take too may antibiotics anyway. But I'm ok.

I don't normally do Mumsnet but this thing is easier to follow that Instagram and they have gone back to deleting all the negative posts again, so it's full of people saying how much they admire Meghan and want to be like her.

One is enough! Hmm

GlitchStitch · 16/01/2020 08:59

I wonder if she even told Harry what she was planning. Surely this is the end of any kind of half way role if she's choosing to go off on her own before they've even negotiated their exit. They just need to bugger off now, no part royal, no funding.

The80sweregreat · 16/01/2020 09:01

I was making the point that Diana did this after her divorce! Meghan is still part of the royals at the moment.
Makes. It even worse I think.
Wait for your husband to come back then crack on! (At least it would free up nanny fees as he could look after his son .. )

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 16/01/2020 09:02

I agree, @GlitchStitch.

I think many people would be very supportive of that too. It isn't the making money for themselves that people object to, it's using the royal brand to do so. This could be solved easily by giving up their titles, or at least agreeing not to use them outside their royal duties.

SerenDippitty · 16/01/2020 09:04

Does anyone else think it was really cheeky of them to ask to live at Windsor Castle? After all it’s well known that it’s the Queen’s favourite royal residence, the one she thinks of as home.

notmoresheep · 16/01/2020 09:04

morning all, is everyone OK?

there was mention of a new blind item elsewhere, does anyone have a link?

Those reports of more visits in Canada! I wondered before but she definitely is representing herself this week, it chimes with that ‘hit the ground running’ mentality. All good causes but hugely misjudged and inappropriate. The notion of her own royalty has really gone to her head hasn’t it?

Cremebrule · 16/01/2020 09:04

I said it on the other thread but I can’t believe Harry has gone down this path. Yes people I’ve said he’s not academically bright but he must have known this stuff would be diplomatically sensitive and complex- ie not the sort of thing you can just announce and deal with.

Diana has the cache and experience when she went off on her own. Up until now, Meghan has only really done a handful of royal visits. She just doesn’t have the same experience, connections etc and wasn’t as popular to begin with. I do really think they’d have had a much easier ride being part of the royal family, grafting for a bit etc. They probably wouldn’t have even needed to do that much while Archie was small.
