Previous thread

-Today Prince Harry is doing the draw for the Rugby League. (Not sure if it’s a public location but there’s bound to be a lot of press interest)

  • He has said he is going to stay in the UK for a bit longer to thrash out the details of “Megxit”
  • Meghan has been on a second surprise visit in Vancouver
  • Opinion coming out of Canada is that; not only do they not want to fund the Sussexes; having a member of the a Royal Family make Canada their permanent home is not acceptable.

Please do not claim that Americans don't understand the concept of duty. When I have visited I have noticed that they generally treat their firefighters and military with admiration and respect. They hold a daily service at Arlington with schoolchildren and ex service personnel to commemorate individual units. Despite being a cynical old bat I was touched by their willingness to be openly respectful of service to their country.

(Obviously we can disagree with how and where their government send them)

Absolutely true. I've spent a lot of time in the States over the years and saw that too.

However, MM is very LA-centric from what I can tell and from my own experience, LA is not at all representative of the US.

Notonthestairs I agree with that.

Fair enough SingingLily - I've never been to LA. I just don't appreciate an entire country being written off in a disparaging and unsubstantiated fashion - in the same way I wouldn't appreciate all British people being lumped together.

Although that's what M & H seem to be doing! Grin

I don't care what they do as long as the taxpayers of Canada or U.K. don't have to fund any of it. He has millions and can pay for security and a home for them. It's a lot of money still.
I know it's not that simple , but they need to be cut off ; their wealth may be small compared to their other A list mates but it can stretch to them leading a fab life without any strings attached easily. They can go on to earn more that way but not if there isn't anything coming from the U.K. then nobody can moan about it.
Be interstate to see what happens about all that ; money is a big factor here.

“Meghan Markle never stepped foot inside the shabby Canadian women’s refuge that she has been praised for visiting, DailyMail.com has learned.

Nor did she actually meet with any of the 500 at-risk women who use the Downtown Eastside Center in one of Canada’s poorest areas.

Instead the Duchess of Sussex went to the Vancouver organization’s administrative offices in a former hotel building, where she met only with members of staff, acting executive director Kate Gibson told DailyMail.com in an exclusive interview."

Well all the posters expressing outrage at her visiting a refuge and exposing vunerable women and putting staff at risk can heave a sigh of relief then .

Seems v sensible to me .

I was agreeing with you. Sorry if I didn't make that clear.

You are absolutely right.

No worries, Not. I wasn't as clear as I could have been.

As long as we are both OK.

Agree with PP who said the concept of 'duty' isn't one that Americans understand. It's the 'land of opportunity' where making money is how you are judged. Money is King. Although there is some truth in that, I rather resent you labeling all 327 million of us with that thought. And obviously, there are some Meghan and Harry lovers on mumsnet that are cheering their release from royal duties and wishing them a wonderful life away from the RF, so obviously, not all Brits think alike or have the same values. Personally, I agree that they are both behaving atrociously. I don't think that their wonderful charitable career overseas is going to work as well as they think. They may end up celebrities of a sort, but not the kind that they/she envision.

Does anybody else wonder why Harry’s still kicking about in the UK?

When is he leaving?

I bet PH will hang around for quite some time yet.

I think the cold wind of reality re his marriage may be starting to blow, and he may well be deciding a couple of things.

It seems impossible to me that a royal baby would be so casually left in the hands of a nanny or bff Jessica Mulroney or whomever...
Makes you wonder...

#where’sArchie...

We’ve seen photos of little hands and little feet and a forehead, for sure, but only one sighting of an entire baby actually moving in South Africa... and then they looked like they’d just picked him up from Amazon and didn’t quite know which end was up.

It’s a puzzle, and a bit of a mess wrapped up inside a storm in a teacup that’s for sure.

Do we have a new thread?

Posters are mentioning that their marriage is on the rocks - why - what has happened?

FagAsh · 17/01/2020 21:59

If he’s still here in a week I’ll be wondering about these marriage rumours tbh and it’s not the way I normally think at all.

It was mentioned several days ago that PH would be staying on into next week (unspecified meetings, but I can well believe he has a lot of things to see to). And I expect they won't announce when he is departing (but it'll probably be noticed)
