Previous thread

I’m not the original OP of the series. That credit must go to @TheMustressMhor
I just stepped in when the last thread filled up with no replacement

There is still an appetite for discussion / gossip depending on your POV.
I asked for MN to put it in the Royal Family topic as the subject is no longer headline news; but still ticking along. I think those people who are interested will find it and add their comments regardless of its location.

Personally I think it shou!d be. I certainly don't want a monarchy like this, where they might as well be celebs. I don't see the point of them then. To continue to exist they need to keep quiet and neutral and do all the ceremony and ribbon cutting at least then they aren't to embarrassing and can be wheeled out for diplomatic reasons and charity occasions.

Fraggot · 15/01/2020 13:09

Moving on...

The DM’s article on the MoS case mentions MM lying about her relationship with her dad to one of the 5 friends who spoke out to People to defend her.

Do we think it could be Serena? She’s then been named in court docs and that's why Ohanian sent out that tweet mentioned by pp.

I repeat I was on a thread about the couple and their air miles hypocrisy after the Global Leaders barefoot speech by Harryverderci and said thread was deleted.

BillieEilish · 15/01/2020 13:11

They didn't want to live privately. This is what irritates me. People are pissed off at the way they have treated their families and the country and told a whole bag of lies. Trying to get the UK a bad reputation to boot. While virtue signalling all the way to the bank.

A PP said the best thing to do would be to stop all reporting on them in the UK as it would really piss MM off. I totally agree. It would never happen though.

I never thought I would ever say this, but I feel so sorry for the Queen.

@BillieEilish

Thank you! I do appreciate it. In my own social media feed, I seem to be in a minority though. I do not feel able to speak freely; I travel in centre left/left circles and I am astonished to find myself so very outnumbered on this issue.

As the news has slowed I think @Myimaginarycathasfleas has a point regarding some of the content. Agree re the baby out with the bathwater point.

Trexical · 15/01/2020 13:15

Well mrscampbellblackagain the most vitriolic comments often include references to DHs agreeing with them so not a great leap to establish the posters are women...we really are going backwards if at the start of 2020 with the world going backwards and women not even being defined correctly as a class we have countless females happy to kick another new mum when she's down like a blood sport! Ffs I pay taxes too and if you want to debate the value of the monarchy then do that but don't use mm as your entry point

JulietJanuary · 15/01/2020 13:15

One benefit of a non elected leader is we don't have to vote and likely end up in a 58:48 split in society. Again.

It is the reason I am not entirely anti monarchy.

Nanamilly · 15/01/2020 13:15

Well she certainly looked a lot happier and better dressed today than she has for ages.

Mominatrix · 15/01/2020 13:15

I agree with Myimaginarycat. I avoid gossipy thread in general and never have been on a Royal thread in the past, but this thread, for the most part, has been reasonable with excellent points raised. It is very topical and there are many aspects of this story which have relevance outside of the immediate events. Recently, there have been more of the insinuations distasteful allegations which I just ignore. Equally irritating are the "you Ladeez need to get a life! Racists! Stupid Royalists!" comments.

Ah well.

Going back to People magazine - I would never take anything they publish seriously. They are notorious for being an outlet for PR placements and the only relevant thing about them is that a Meghan approved leaker published parts of the letter which the Sussexes are suing the MoS of publishing. I suppose that their case is that it is OK in people because they approved it but not in the MoS case because they were not behind the publication. Cake. Eat.

I would like to point out 'Sapiens' by Yuval Noah Harari couldn't be further from cheap trash. He's a doctor with a PhD from Oxford. 'Sapiens' is fantastic and well worth a read.

And the pp who mentioned that gossip is one of the main reasons the human race has flourished is entirely correct.

DandyAndFine · 15/01/2020 13:16

@joyfullittlehippo

I’m also an anti-monarchist in bed with flu but as I’m not into punishing myself I’m reading this thread because I find it interesting rather than irritating.

And I blame Harry for this mess. It was very clear that Meghan was always into self-promotion from before she met him, and I think what she was about aligned perfectly with what he wanted: to be in control rather than controlled, being an international activist and philanthropist with glamour and fame on the A-list celebrity circuit.

LaMarschallin · 15/01/2020 13:18

(In brackets, as this is a by-the-by. When I had an interest in mental health - read in to that what you like; anyone can claim knowledge of subjects/people - narcissism was a recognised personality disorder and people with it were called "narcissists". Since being on MN, I find that practically everyone someone doesn't like is a narcissist or - worse - "narc". It does seem like it's sometimes used as just another insult.

Words like "egotistical", "selfish" or "self interested" previously did the job.

I do think Meghan has an eye to the main chance and is acting very selfishly; I suspect she may have quite a thick skin and may well be narcissistic. Which is a trait many people without personality disorders have. Those are my opinions based on nothing more than reading the news.

I wouldn't bandy around words like "narcissist" or - yuk! - "narc" about her or anyone else.)

OVienna · 15/01/2020 13:18

Why though, Trexical? I don't get this. It's H&M who have made their family drama into the current "national crisis." Or have been allowed to. Government ministers who have plenty of other things they could and should be focused on are now tied up on this. How can you say this?

I am bemused by the occasional posters who appear, berate us all, then disappear as quickly as they came.
Is it posters or one poster who changes their name each time they post? That might account for the disappearing.

JulietJanuary · 15/01/2020 13:26

Joyful where do you get your info on reporting and bannings if you don't mind me asking?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 15/01/2020 13:26

I wonder if all this recent stuff is the beginning of the end for the monarchy

Some of us hope so; we're not deluded enough to think one "scandal" will be enough, no matter which RF member it's about, but the overall weight of them just might be

Or maybe, one day, they'll just fade away because they no longer serve any purpose other than folk to point and laugh ... and they'll deserve it

TheMustressMhor · 15/01/2020 13:27

@NotEverythingIsBlackAndWhite

I think there are more than one, judging by the SPaG.

back to the topic on hand, W&C seemed to get a very warm welcome in Bradford today.

HopeMumsnet · 15/01/2020 13:29

Hi Wendy,

Unfortunately, yes, it is happening. We have already banned a couple of returning posters from this thread.

The moderating team does have some considerable experience in seeing the bigger picture, and we are careful to take every report on its merits.

As always would prefer to see conversation flow (so long as it doesn't break the MN guidelines), hence the fact that we are now on our fifth of these threads.
@HopeMumsnet

Has any of that happened or are certain posters just claiming it is to get the thread deleted? I hope you're taking that into account when you're looking at these threads.
Trexical · 15/01/2020 13:29

OVienna but is it a national 'crisis' ? By who's reckoning ? I mean the banking crisis cost the economy billions, saw homes repossessed as unemployment sky rocketed and left millions worse off ...that's worthy of the term crisis in my book.. but a new royal family, the wife of which has been subject to veiled and overt racial abuse and the husband who's mother died as a direct result of being hounded by the press, decide to do what other Royals have done and live independent lives ( which will undoubtedly save the tax payer money ) and this crisis is deemed worthy of 20+ largely negative threads on a forum dedicated to helping and supporting mums...come on ..you couldn't make this shit up!

Thomas Markle has provided proof of his hospitalisation(s). His discharge papers show he was in Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center in California and was discharged on May 17.

BBC also reported about Thomas Markle’s hospitalisation on the lunchtime news. So they must believe it’s true!
