Previous thread

I’m not the original OP of the series. That credit must go to @TheMustressMhor
I just stepped in when the last thread filled up with no replacement

There is still an appetite for discussion / gossip depending on your POV.
I asked for MN to put it in the Royal Family topic as the subject is no longer headline news; but still ticking along. I think those people who are interested will find it and add their comments regardless of its location.

CurlyWurlyTwirly - I thought Harry would have been Given HighGrove; once Charles inherited the rest of the portfolio from the Queen.

Yes - that seems a likely scenario in PC's mind given H&M's espoused eco credentials. Although I'm not sure that they would be that interested in running an estate and farming.

I think that the Cotswolds suited them better being near the Chipping Norton set and the country homes of Hollywood A listers.

The RF is largely in limbo at the moment as everyone knows that the current status quo can only last a few years

annielouise · 15/01/2020 20:36

Yes, now you say that I remember he was the most popular or second most after the queen.

I don't think though he'd have the outpouring of love that Diana had when she died, even before he met MM. I can't seem him ever being as popular again as he used to be. I never understood his popularity. Diana I could see it.

DandyAndFine · 15/01/2020 20:40

It’s disgusting that Prince Andrew hasn’t been formally held to account. Or that the Queen hasn’t publicly addressed it. It’s unsavoury and odious all round and hell knows what else they’ve covered up.

I’m not sure how much H & M can be truthfully called a distraction however. The nature of the Prince Andrew allegations the press have to tread carefully from a legal perspective. And yes I totally believe them to be true but in law they are still allegations.

Speculation about H & M however is much easier to make because it doesn’t involve talking about sex trafficking and coercive sex with minors.

DandyAndFine · 15/01/2020 20:42

*means the press have to ...

Yes, I expect there will be a lot more changes in a few years. The family need to garner as much public support as it can in order to survive.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/01/2020 20:45

For the RF; I think the H&M situation is a short term thing.

The “Big Announcement” was just over a week ago and things are unravelling for (mainly) Meghan. Her Alist friends have been utterly silent; Serena William’s husband obliquely criticised her in a tweet.

The Sussex Royal Instagram is rammed full of criticism and disgust at their behaviour.
The Sussex Royal brand is devaluing quickly.

It’s significant that Prince Harry is staying on in the UK.
It’s probably the longest period of time they’ve been apart since Meghan moved to the UK.

I’m wondering if after the love bombing, devaluation and inevitable walking on eggshells to keep Meghan Happy, the scales are falling from Harry’s eyes.
If William and Kate have managed to reconnect with Harry; there is a chance that they can get him away from Meghan.

Given the pace at which this has unravelled, I think if there is the inevitable split ( the “Discard” stage) I think Meghan will be reined in by money. She won’t get a lump sum, but she’ll probably get use of a house, an annual sum to basically buy her silence.

I think Meghan’s next husband will either be a tech billionaire or a Russian oligarch type.

Well after Kennedy Jacqui married Onassis Grin

SunsetBoulevard3 · 15/01/2020 20:48

Serena has been a long standing friend for years. I don’t know about the others. I can’t imagine the Clooney wanting to be friends with a third rate actress in an unremarkable series prior to her relationship with Harry.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/01/2020 20:49

Without the Sussex Royal brand, and the allure of the RF behind her; all Meghan will have to monetise is spilling secrets on the RF and Archie.

Another baby ASAP will at least double her child maintenance and give her a temporary boost in popularity.

Well quite. And that was for money.

That was only because she'd died though. She'd ceased to be the Queen of Hearts before her death.

Interestingly, Diana was a year younger when she died than MM was when she married H.

The80sweregreat · 15/01/2020 20:53

I totally ' got' the Diana love but I do think people were getting a bit fed up of her the summer before she died. She was manipulating the press and her shots of her on Dodi's yacht were becoming annoying. No internet back then , but I recall the chats on Good morning Britain etc and the tide was turning over her various antics. She had done the interview with Panorama the year before and then it had started to go downhill a bit after that. I do think that she wouldn't have stayed as popular had she lived ; she would have had to find different ways of staying relevant and she would have made it clear ' I'm the boys mum' once Kate and Meghan were on the scene too ; she may have made things a bit tricky I think.
I'm sad she died though ; it was awful ( and avoidable) and must have been dreadful for the boys to deal with but their mum always was a loose cannon and her history post wedding was tragic and unhappy.

WineOrGinOrBoth · 15/01/2020 20:54

Didn’t Jackie Kennedy get a lot of flak when she married Onassis?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/01/2020 20:59

Didn’t Jackie Kennedy get a lot of flak when she married Onassis?

Yes; but she didn’t give a shit.
She was having an affair with Bobby Kennedy when he was assassinated in 1968.
She married Onassis for protection.
Onassis married her because she was a “prize”

Her biography “America’s Queen” is a fascinating read

I wonder if some of H&M's celebrity friends may be fearing being embroiled in the court case and are perhaps coming to worry that the information that they relayed on her behalf to the People article may not be strictly true.

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/01/2020 21:02

I think that may well be the case Lunde

I agree. There was one photo where she’d had a bad dye job and the reporter was bitching about her “marmalade hair”

She was also hounded a lot once she ditched her police protection.

I can just imagine it now, Meghan merching a vagina candle... (especially for old musty church vestibules) just like that other merch Queen, Gwennie...

Or a moon bump for sticking up your jumper and garnering sympathy!

How the tabloid press treated Diana in the run up to her death

OP posts:
SunsetBoulevard3 · 15/01/2020 21:09

@CurlyWurlyTwirly
Harry is only staying on until his engagement tomorrow is done. Then he'll be on the first plane out of here I'm sure. I don't think he'll be back anytime soon. I think it will be a long while until the scales fall from his eyes, sadly. I think he's desperate for his marriage to work and desperate for a family life of his own. He adores the baby and there will be another one on the way soon which will keep M in the news.

FromEden · 15/01/2020 21:10

One of the blind items on blind gossip was saying the MM was obsessed with the number of Instagram followers and with having more than W&K which was on track to happen in Feb. Have their antics lost them any significant number of followers or gained a lot more? I'm not on Instagram but going by what people are saying about the comments, their move hasn't been well received.

FlickingVees · 15/01/2020 21:12

I do hope Harry is ok.
Seriously tho. I do hope he’s ok.

He seems to have grasped the wrong end of the bathtub, and flung himself out the window.

I hope reconnecting with those who genuinely love him, sets his head on a bit straighter.

Grinchly · 15/01/2020 21:13

curly agree exactly with your latest analysis re M and H.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/01/2020 21:13

@FlickingVees Shock

Well Goop is worth a quarter of a billion dollars. What kind of people buy this shit?!
