Previous thread

I’m not the original OP of the series. That credit must go to @TheMustressMhor
I just stepped in when the last thread filled up with no replacement

There is still an appetite for discussion / gossip depending on your POV.
I asked for MN to put it in the Royal Family topic as the subject is no longer headline news; but still ticking along. I think those people who are interested will find it and add their comments regardless of its location.

Hey @halcyondays what's wrong with Rochdale?

I suppose it’s always been a mix of the royals being sent off to cut ribbons in Rochdale on a rainy day and of being able to champion their own chosen charities/pet projects.

Fair comment

@SunsetBoulevard3

Yes the Cotswolds / Oxfordshire home was rented.
( Meghan used to be quite in with the soho house set)

".......God, Harry, you utter idiot."

I sadly agree with you.
I would have loved for my early misgivings to be unfounded.

I think that the Queen still owns Anmer Hall - it was said at the time that it was "allocated for the use" of W&K - similar to Frogmore

I think that Frogmore was a starter home for M&H - the Royals seem to move up to bigger accommodation as they need it. W&K lived in the 2 bed Nottingham Cottage even after they had prince george.

DandyAndFine · 15/01/2020 20:03

peaceanddove yes that was my first thought, that she’d had breast implants.

@SunsetBoulevard3 I think Prince Harry thought he didn’t like being royal, but he actually did. An important difference! He liked being in the army and he always seemed to like attending sporting events, that seems his comfort zone. I think he’ll miss that part.

mrscampbellblackagain · 15/01/2020 20:03

A house similar to Anmer Hall in the Cotswolds would be around £5m I reckon.

Harry could afford it but I think he probably thinks it is infra dig to buy one's own country estate Wink

VeryLittleOwl · 15/01/2020 20:05

Prince Charles already owns a couple of B&Bs, I'm sure he'd have no problem getting Frogmore Cottage up and running as another one :) One is the Granary Lodge at the Castle of Mey in Caithness and the other, rather bizarrely, is an eco guest house in Romania.

I think Queenie has been very canny. Clearly some of that Scottish heritage making itself felt.

She gives William and Kate Anmer Hall, something which the likes of most of us could never aspire to.

Then she gives Harry & Meghan Frogmore Cottage, which let's face it, was a renovation project some of us might have been able to afford had it been in a less affluent area in the days when it was a LOT easier to get finance for property development.

It speaks volumes to me.

MrsBrentford · 15/01/2020 20:06

£5m - and the rest!!

My parents have a 4 bed cottage near the Cotswolds - that’s worth about £1m

SunsetBoulevard3 · 15/01/2020 20:06

@VeryLittleOwl

Who on earth runs them? News to me.

Re: HM's other grandchildren getting a house.

I believe Eugenie has a "cottage" at Kensington Palace. Rented not gifted.

Zara lives in a house on the Gatcome Estate (her mother's residence). Given to her by her mother, not the Queen

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/01/2020 20:07

Interesting point from a Canadian on Instagram

She doesn’t have legal status in Canada. Our Constitution only recognize the Monarch, not the rest of her family. They are also not allowed to use their titles under the Nickel Resolution 1919. Meghan should leave Canada alone

Canadian titles Wikipedia

I’m not sure if this is conflating 2 things.
Canadian citizens appear not to be allowed to hold titles.
Meghan’s job ( was) Princess of the United Kingdom.
She however is not British, so her title shouldn’t be recognised in Canada.
She should definitely be known as Meghan Sussex. ( no title)

Have been googling and it seems Anmer Hall was a wedding gift from the Queen.

Wish I had a grandmother like that Wink

PlacidPenelope · 15/01/2020 20:08

The list of Royal Property Holdings is very extensive, isn't it.

By George, who'd have thunk it?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/01/2020 20:08

Prince Charles bought Highgrove

OP posts:
Lunde · 15/01/2020 20:10

If you look at Anmer Hall's Wiki page it describes W&K as the "current tenants". It was a "wedding gift" to W&K in the same way that Frogmore was a wedding gift to H&M

DandyAndFine · 15/01/2020 20:11

Perhaps she’ll insist on being referred to as “former HRH, Meghan Sussex” to shoehorn the title in there.

The80sweregreat · 15/01/2020 20:12

Prince Charles has B and B 's! Gosh , I didn't know this! Makes sense that they bought properties but I only knew about the more famous ones.
I have learnt much from mumsnet over the years. It's a mine of information.

Justmuddlingalong · 15/01/2020 20:12

AIBU to be a bit pissed off that my granny gave me a Swan electric carving knife? 👸

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/01/2020 20:14

Eugenie’s cottage is in this video with Ed Sheeran and a Prince Harry.
( I really hope that is her actual doorbell ring!)

mrscampbellblackagain · 15/01/2020 20:14

Just shows how much secrecy there is around the RF's finances that we can't work out who categorically owns Anmer Hall.

annielouise · 15/01/2020 20:14

"She should definitely be known as Meghan Sussex. ( no title)"

Surely if that is the case she'd go back to being Meghan Markle, her being that strong, independent feminist.

scaryteacher · 15/01/2020 20:14

Peaceanddove Looking at the angle of them, I thought it was a strategically placed pair of socks pushing them up. She looked flat chested in that navy blue number she wore to the RAF service, and she was in the wrong shade of blue....
