Previous thread

I’m not the original OP of the series. That credit must go to @TheMustressMhor
I just stepped in when the last thread filled up with no replacement

There is still an appetite for discussion / gossip depending on your POV.
I asked for MN to put it in the Royal Family topic as the subject is no longer headline news; but still ticking along. I think those people who are interested will find it and add their comments regardless of its location.

He is less than William. He needs to get over it.

I agree. This is the role he was handed in life. He has had many years to get used to the idea. It might be hard but many of us are born into completely crap situations and nobody chooses any of it. We all have a burden to carry and this is his.

WineOrGinOrBoth · 15/01/2020 19:38

I said on the S&B threads that I wanted to go to princess school. Somehow I don’t think Meghan would have been that interested.

Also has anyone asked me if I’m ok?? I may flounce if I don’t get asked soon.

It’s always been the eldest son, royal or aristocracy, gets the lot. So why bother him now?

Rumboogie · 15/01/2020 19:40

I don't get the furore over Frogmore. Surely the renovations were paid for out of the Sovereign Grant, which is from money raised by the Crown, given to Govt, and a is the portion returned to the Crown for the RF's expenses.

The Monarch has a duty to maintain the Crown properties (of which Frogmore is one) and did so as Frogmore needed a great deal of structural renovation.

Internal decs were paid by PC and PH/MM, I gather.

What am I missing?

Alsohuman · 15/01/2020 19:41

Are you all right @WineOrGinOrBoth?

DeRigueurMortis · 15/01/2020 19:44

Re: HM's other grandchildren getting a house.

I believe Eugenie has a "cottage" at Kensington Palace.

Zara lives in a house on the Gatcome Estate (her mother's residence).

There's speculation something will be sorted for Beatrice and Edo after they marry.

Not sure about the others but it's definitely not the case that only W&C and H&M got gifted homes as grandchildren of the monarch.

Butterymuffin · 15/01/2020 19:44

Well I'd like to thank @crispysausagerolls for asking if I'm ok. Not many people do

MrsBrentford · 15/01/2020 19:45

I don’t really understand the “are you ok?” thing.

Presumably, and it appears that, MM took no advice from BP.

She then fund herself in a pickle, but expected them to ask if she is ok Confused

MrsBrentford · 15/01/2020 19:46

*finds herself

mrscampbellblackagain · 15/01/2020 19:47

Total speculation but maybe he thought he would get something like Anmer Hall upon his marriage and suggested as much to Meghan. Then they get Frogmore which I really don't think is all that. I mean, it seems nice enough but it is nothing special.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 15/01/2020 19:48

@CurlyWurlyTwirly
I thought they rented that cottage in the Cotswolds? I don't understand why they needed Frogmore at all then! What will happen to that house now if they do own it?
I also thought that KP properties remained under the ownership of the Crown and were rented for peppercorn rents? William and Kate will have it for free, but I doubt the others do. I seem to remember a row about the Gloucesters or somebody paying a ludicrously small rent for their apartment.

MrsBrentford · 15/01/2020 19:48

Maybe they were a bit demanding and ended up getting what they were given.....

PlacidPenelope · 15/01/2020 19:48

yes I have often thought that they may have misunderstood what they were being offered. They thought that they had been offered the very impressive and glamorous Frogmore House - but realised too late it was the cottage ... but by then the remedial structural work had started ....

Makes you wonder Lunde, didn't they have their wedding reception at Frogmore House? Harry would have know the difference between the cottage and the house, Meghan on the other hand....

The Spencer family have quite a history, in the 1800's Georgiana Spencer was married to the Duke of Devonshire who was at the time the most powerful aristocrat in the country and of course there is the Spencer family connection to Queen Anne.

mrscampbellblackagain · 15/01/2020 19:48

Meghan will regret forever the are you ok line won't she Grin

SunsetBoulevard3 · 15/01/2020 19:51

@JillyHilly
I don't think Harry was bothered about his status before Meghan came along. He has never enjoyed being Royal anyway. It's since she came on the scene that suddenly he's become sullen and resentful. I would guess she's been whispering in his ear for a long time now. 'They treat you so BADLY, Harry, I mean you are the son of the future King and you deserve x,y z.'

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 15/01/2020 19:53

I wonder if M felt insulted by Frogmore Cottage? Thought she was getting (or should get) the very grand Frogmore House?

But when they got engaged Harry was living in the modest Nottingham Cottage on the grounds of kensington Palace. I think it only had 2 bedrooms.

Frogmore cottage is much larger being apartments put together

WineOrGinOrBoth · 15/01/2020 19:53

Thank you for asking @Alsohuman. Not many people do criesfaketears

Jillyhilly · 15/01/2020 19:53

Yes maybe you’re right, Sunset. If anything he always seemed to enjoy being the one who didn’t have the full weight of the monarchy on his shoulders.

PlacidPenelope · 15/01/2020 19:54

I must admit I thought Frogmore Cottage was an odd choice/decision, I fully expected them to be at Kensington Palace and have a.n.other home somewhere like the Cotswolds.

MrsBrentford · 15/01/2020 19:55

But it’s not like they don’t have a private fortune - they could have bought a house wherever they wanted?

MrsBrentford · 15/01/2020 19:56

And she seemed to want to move him away from his brother - she may have pissed them off by rejecting KP?

Anyone else think it's very obvs that MM has had breast implants on that photo of her in the red dress and briefcase?
