Previous thread

I’m not the original OP of the series. That credit must go to @TheMustressMhor
I just stepped in when the last thread filled up with no replacement

There is still an appetite for discussion / gossip depending on your POV.
I asked for MN to put it in the Royal Family topic as the subject is no longer headline news; but still ticking along. I think those people who are interested will find it and add their comments regardless of its location.

I thought Princess Diana was given a lot of guidance on Royal etiquette? Ok so maybe not the same as "Princess School" but had assumed Meghan would have gotten something similar.

Of course I had forgotten that Diana really did make a good try at being a successful Royal and was prepared to listen to advice, at least in the beginning. She was also a lot younger.

PlacidPenelope · 15/01/2020 18:38

The SussexRoyal website had an explanation as to why they didn't take an apartment at Kensington Palace, from memory they cited costs of refurbishment (roughly double what was spent on Frogmore) and length of time said refurbishments would take.

Alsohuman · 15/01/2020 18:39

Where did you see that @The80sweregreat?

TheMustressMhor · 15/01/2020 18:39

I doubt if Harry will be "ok" for a very long time.

GlitchStitch · 15/01/2020 18:40

Is it me or does the celebrity support seems rather thin in the ground on this occasion?

Yes I've noticed this too, I've read a few interesting things online regarding her friendship with Serena. Pure gossip of course but still interesting!

MrsBrentford · 15/01/2020 18:41

TBF The Spencer Family are almost posher than the Royal Family.

Diana was from the British Aristocracy.

Diana was much more from “that ilk” than MM.

The80sweregreat · 15/01/2020 18:44

The dreaded daily mail on line I only saw it a while ago.
Didn't say how long for though.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 15/01/2020 18:46

Ooh wonder what the gossip is? FWIW I wasn't that convinced about the closeness of their friendship, or that with Priyanka either, just seemed like obvious 'friends.' The kind of friends you cultivate because of their status, not because you are genuine bonafide buddies who spend lots of time together rough and smooth. In the case of Priyanka I could be wrong, but it didn't seem like they were such close friends that she should attend the wedding banquet.

The80sweregreat · 15/01/2020 18:47

I know I sound sexist but when a woman is poorly they do feel the need to carry on and guilt that they just can't.
Men (generally ) don't!
This flu bug has floored so many people I know. It takes a while to recover so be nice to yourself!

TheMustressMhor · 15/01/2020 18:48

Just out of nosiness I tried to create an Instagram account.

But it would not let me.

Is this because shed-loads of people are making accounts so that they can look at the Sussex a/c? And the website cannot cope? (seems unlikely to me)

Or am I a risk to national security?

(also seems unlikely)

Andylion · 15/01/2020 18:48

I always think that Frogmore Cottage looks like a mini-barracks. H and M were welcome to it

I had always assumed that we were looking at the back door and hoped that the front looked more impressive.

MrsBrentford · 15/01/2020 18:50

@Andylion

Totally.

phpolly · 15/01/2020 18:52

7salmonswimming talks total sense (and definitely knows what she/he is on about).

The80sweregreat · 15/01/2020 18:52

Frogmore looks like a row of sixties built council properties tarted up a lot and too close to Heathrow for my liking!
I wouldn't be ' ok' about living there but I've never seen it so in the flesh so I'm probably wrong and probably lovely inside.
It's not Sandringham though ; that is impressive.

NotJustACigar · 15/01/2020 18:52

Frog more cottage always looked like it must suffer from damp.

GlitchStitch · 15/01/2020 18:52

It's a bit unpleasant, there is a photo of Meghan near Serena's husband and the angle Meghan is sitting at is 'unfortunate' so to speak and some are saying it was a come on!

There is also speculation that Serena was one of the friends who anonymously defended Meghan regarding her father in the media and now feels that she was duped.

My personal feeling is that they were pals but it's a bigger 'cachet' for Meghan, headlines about her supporting her great friend, lots of photo ops etc. But Serena loves the UK, her favourite tournament is Wimbledon, she gets alot of love here, and probably doesn't want to get involved in any comment or criticism of the UK or the RF. She's also friends with Piers Morgan funnily enough, or she was! Not so sure now but she's never come to Meghan's defence when he criticises her that I've seen anyway.

I think that H&M originally wanted an apartment in Windsor Castle itself - but the Queen said no to this.

I think that a wing of Windsor Castle (renovated to their taste) would have been preferred as it is more glamorous and exciting for entertaining and Instagram photos etc. However having said that they wanted to live in Windsor that they were stuck with Frogmore as being the available property.

Frogmore never seemed very "Meghan" - to me it always gives off a "care home" vibe to me rather than Royal glamour. But having spent millions on the renovation they were stuck with it. But they haven't ever released photos there have they? Even with a friendly photographer? Even Archie was introduced using Windsor Castle as the backdrop. I was always surprised that they chose Frogmore over KP and a country pad. I think that they may have regretted choosing to be there

The80sweregreat · 15/01/2020 18:53

Frogmore has a very dowdy look about it.

fallen121 · 15/01/2020 18:53

If you do succeed you can follow me. I need more followers. aka_fallen121

I don't really "DO" Insta I prefer Twitter, but I want to sell more books and you can't sell shit on Twitter. So some more followers might inspire me to do more.

You can use the app on a Windows 10 machine so if you can't sign up on your mobile maybe try a laptop instead?

peridito · 15/01/2020 18:54

re the Duchy of Cornwall ( and also Lancaster ) yes @Cool0lady I was aware about ppl diying intestate and assetts going to Duchies not the government .

But ...the point is the income from those estates is not money raised by taxes on the public .Some of the Lancaster revenue ( 25% ? can't recall ) goes to the Queen also .Rest of Lancaster income goes to Government and offsets security costs ,refurb of Frogmore etc .

I'm not sure about the status of ownership ,it seems to be a personal
possesion but can only be possesed by Duke of Cornwall and monarch .So if we got rid of the monarchy ,who would possess it then ?

TheMustressMhor · 15/01/2020 18:57

Jeez Fallen I did try on my laptop.

I will gladly "follow" you if Instagram allows me to join its ranks.

The only photographs I have to share are of cats.

Frogmore looks a bit small to me. Does it have a pool? Cinema? Bowling Alley? Beauty Salon? Stables? Squash Court? Fantastic views of mountainside or a lake?

Nah. I probably wouldn't live there either if I was Meghan.
