Previous thread

I’m not the original OP of the series. That credit must go to @TheMustressMhor
I just stepped in when the last thread filled up with no replacement

There is still an appetite for discussion / gossip depending on your POV.
I asked for MN to put it in the Royal Family topic as the subject is no longer headline news; but still ticking along. I think those people who are interested will find it and add their comments regardless of its location.

Have to say that I think the Duchies of Cornwall and Lancaster should be handed over to benefit the UK

I disagree. Confiscating privately owned assets sets a very disturbing precedent. As it is, the income from the duchies saves the tax payer money.

A pp said she’d be happy never to see or hear from the Sussexes again. I couldn’t agree more. Just about the only thing most of us agree on is wanting a slimmed down RF, they’re making a great idea start on it. Let them do anything they want as long as they can find the money to pay for it themselves, pipe down and make the most of their yearned for privacy.

crispysausagerolls · 15/01/2020 17:25

I just want to check that everyone here is ok?

Daily ok check. Very important to be asked if you are ok.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 15/01/2020 17:25

I'm not the sort who imagines bogeymen in every corner, but I stumbled into it when straying too far from the usual attractions, and it's not an experience I'll forget

We did too when in Vancouver. It's very easily done as it's not a gradual move. Suddenly you're there. I was accused of vilifying the homeless on another thread for mentioning a really frightening experience we had there Hmm

lilmishap · 15/01/2020 17:26

I did not know that about the duchy. That's left a nasty taste in my mouth

TheMustressMhor · 15/01/2020 17:27

A hotel? I think most of the royal residences have spare bedrooms.

Grin

Although maybe Harry will be so put out by his family's reaction to his wife that he won't want to stay with them.

I think PP are right in that Meghan will not be back.

She surely realises that she is not flavour of the month any more. The Sussexes have made a very serious miscalculation with regard to public opinion.

The Great British Public do not like to see their Queen shown such disrespect.

The80sweregreat · 15/01/2020 17:27

Heir B and B!
Although he isn't now : Charles , William and George are the heirs. His gone down in the pecking order in every sense of the word lately!

HoneysuckleSpeck · 15/01/2020 17:28

The video with all the many clips of her parting her coat to better show her bump is cringeworthy 🙄

Puzzledandpissedoff · 15/01/2020 17:28

It would be interesting to me to discuss the finances of the Duchy of Cornwall

Good luck with that, peridito; from all I've ever read, even it's status seems to change between private estate, public authority and crown body according to what spin's required - and of course Charles is exempt from the FOI Act

I'll be quite straightforward in saying the following link's anything but unbiased - but it's also the case that every single claim is fully referenced for those who wish to check the facts:

DandyAndFine · 15/01/2020 17:30

crispy thank you for asking. I said in my first post that I’m in bed with the flu and NO ONE has asked if I’m ok until you did

Wink
crispysausagerolls · 15/01/2020 17:31

@DandyAndFine

Well thank goodness I asked and you didn’t feel the need to flounce! (Do actually hope you are ok though - the flu is a nasty bugger)

DandyAndFine · 15/01/2020 17:32

And it doesn’t matter that having the flu is a common thing and loads of people have it too right now. None of the others are ME.

DandyAndFine · 15/01/2020 17:34

@crispysausagerolls

Cheers! I’m not OK actuality it is indeed a buffer, I’ve been laid in bed for a few days now. Had to cancel all my ‘engagements’.

SingingLily · 15/01/2020 17:34

A six week break in Canada will put you right.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 15/01/2020 17:34

I did not know that about the duchy. That's left a nasty taste in my mouth

See the link at 17.28, @lilmishap ... but do also look at the links within it, rather than just the editorial

@Cool0lady

The Dutchy Cornwall money IS taxpayer money ffs. It’s money that automatically goes to Charles when people die & don’t make a Will. That’s not from thin air.
It is not taxpayers' or public money.

When anyone dies without leaving a will and no surviving relatives claim the estate within, I think, 30 years, then the estate passes to the crown. This is called bona vacantia. Similarly, it applies to assets of dissolved companies. In Cornwall the money from unclaimed estates goes to the Duke of Cornwall. However, from 1975 the Duke chose to pass this money on to the Duchy of Cornwall Benevolent Fund which funds charitable projects in Cornwall often concerned with environmental, conservation, wildlife and community projects as well as advancing art, religion and education.

The Duchy of Cornwall Estate is privately owned with income being derived from "the sustainable and commercial management of the land".
The Duke of Cornwall derives income from its management and there are rules in place so that he cannot derive money from the sale of capital assets. It is this income which he uses to fund his sons' and his own and Camilla's lifestyle.

For anyone unaware there is a list of unclaimed estates left by people who haven't made a will: www.bonavacantia.co.uk

DandyAndFine · 15/01/2020 17:36

A buffet? A bugger.

Lily yes it would, but DH is unreasonably refusing to pay for a private jet and carry me down the stairs.

SingingLily · 15/01/2020 17:37

I know a Russian billionaire who could oblige...

crispysausagerolls · 15/01/2020 17:38

@SingingLily
😂😂😂😂

SingingLily · 15/01/2020 17:39

It's what my mother would have called "a sovereign remedy".

The80sweregreat · 15/01/2020 17:40

Dandy, everyone I know has gone down with something the last month! It's awful
I hope your ok as the flu virus is really horrible. Wish you better.

TheMustressMhor · 15/01/2020 17:41

@SingingLily

A six week break in Canada will put you right

Mmm.

Followed by a surprise announcement when you get back that you can't be arsed to do any real work ever again...

...even though you've created a lovely website which sets out absolutely nothing in terms of actual work...

...and you need to be guarded round the clock...

...and then you can do a quick flounce back to Canada where you had conveniently left your dogs and child anyway...

...just in case you were never really planning to stay in the UK.

SingingLily · 15/01/2020 17:43

I'm getting really concerned now, Mustress. All those lovely baby shower gifts. Have they been packed up and relocated too? And if not, why not?

Baby shower gifts, Lily?

Nothing so tacky in this house. Nothing to see here.

GoFiguire · 15/01/2020 17:46

When is anyone going to ask ME if I’M OK? I don’t want a collective ask, I want MY ask. A personal one. An ask that is all about ME.
