Previous thread

I’m not the original OP of the series. That credit must go to @TheMustressMhor
I just stepped in when the last thread filled up with no replacement

There is still an appetite for discussion / gossip depending on your POV.
I asked for MN to put it in the Royal Family topic as the subject is no longer headline news; but still ticking along. I think those people who are interested will find it and add their comments regardless of its location.

I like it derigueur! Or H&M could get an Air BnB somewhere?

TwentyViginti · 15/01/2020 17:00

DeRigueurMortis Brilliant! I'd buy a ticket! are staff included? Grin

Ritascornershop · 15/01/2020 17:00

This morning on the CBC (our version of the Beeb) there was a brief report on MM going to the women’s shelter. I thought it extremely odd it was billed as her attending to “lift their spirits”. Is that not extremely arrogant? Why on earth would that lift anyone’s spirits?!! The downtown Eastside is one of the poorest neighbourhoods in Canada - I cant imagine why a posh actress appearing would cheer anyone up.

As for the becoming the Governor General, Trudeau would be mad to offer it (& I doubt they’d want it as it’s probably fairly dull and ridden with protocol). Despite our premier saying we are “giddy” they are here, I think most of us aren’t bothered and I definitely don’t think we’re up for paying for them! We didn’t invite them, they won’t be working for us, they earn more than most of us could dream of, they can pay their own way.

suspended I think it is quite widely known that they dont listen to advice... I suspect it could be because if the advice conflicts with what they want to do they dont like it. Which is fair enough when you are Mr and Mrs Windsor of Windsor Town, but doesnt really work when you are globally famous and in the case of one partner, wishing to be more so.

I honestly think H would be happy barefoot in Africa, but M would not - and there's the rub as someone once said.

peaceanddove · 15/01/2020 17:03

If I was a woman staying at the refuge I would take a very dim view of Meghan swanning in in her £500 boots, tilting her head at me and telling me she understands what it's like to feel abused, trapped and have no support Hmm

DeRigueurMortis · 15/01/2020 17:03

Yes I think staff ought to be part of the package Grin

House maintenance also Grin

yolofish · 15/01/2020 17:03

ritas sky news did a vox pop in Canada today - the general consensus was yeah, they're welcome but not if we have to pay. Which is fair enough IMO.

TwentyViginti · 15/01/2020 17:05

I'm enjoying these threads. Lots of historical royal intrigues being discussed as well as the current ones.

crispysausagerolls · 15/01/2020 17:05

I have seen much, much nastier threads than this on MN! And usually the nastiness is directed at the Op, a person reading it!

I don’t think a bit of speculation/gossip/discussion over someone who couldn’t give two turtle shits about what we think is hurting anyone.

yolofish · 15/01/2020 17:06

de rigueur can we add a handsome pool boy and some grooms for the horses? (there will be horses, wont there?)

Froq · 15/01/2020 17:10

In what capacity was she attending the refuge?

And why the photos?

She just can’t keep away can she. So much for craving privacy.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/01/2020 17:10

I definitely think Frogmore should be rented out. It would make a Fortune and recoup the refurbishment costs in a few years. ( to be repaid to the tax payer)
If Harry needs a bolt hole he should stay at Nottingham cottage at KP.
Meghan and Archie are never coming back.

Tut! yolo don't be greedy! I'm sure her maj will let you have a go on one of hers though.

I mean a horse of course Grin

Puzzledandpissedoff · 15/01/2020 17:12

The downtown Eastside is one of the poorest neighbourhoods in Canada

I believe you, Rita ... I'm not the sort who imagines bogeymen in every corner, but I stumbled into it when straying too far from the usual attractions, and it's not an experience I'll forget

Since everyone's discussing H&M's security arrangements, let's just hope she had plenty of it at the time

peaceanddove · 15/01/2020 17:12

I would think Prince Charles and/or the Queen would stump up the cash for continued close protection by the Met. One of the reasons Princess Diana died was because she wasn't being supervised by well trained, close protection officers. Instead she was using the half baked goons employed by Al Fayed.

TheMustressMhor · 15/01/2020 17:13

When Frogmore "Cottage" (some fucking cottage. I always think of cottages as little dwellings where the rooms are tiny and there are no more than two bedrooms) was renovated, the staff who had lived there had to move out.

Where did they go? Did the RF rehouse them?

I always think that Frogmore Cottage looks like a mini-barracks. H and M were welcome to it...

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/01/2020 17:13

In what capacity was she attending the refuge?

In the capacity of “I a need a fix of attention and my BIL &SIL are doing an engagement in the UK and I want to knock them off the front pages’.

William and Kate have an engagement on the 20th.
Let’s see if Meghan pops up again...

Bloody hell, I take the dog for a walk and all hell breaks loose.

Right. I am interested in seeing Meghan shake hands in Hull Leeds Rotherham tenterden billericay or wherever. In the U.K. a random Canadian women’s refuge means nothing to me. Sorry but there we are. If they were on an official tour of Canada and Nicholas Witchell was making his pert comments then I might be interested. But it isn’t, he isn’t, so I’m not.

peridito · 15/01/2020 17:14

It would be interesting to me to discuss the finances of the Duchy of Cornwall .
from Wikipedia

The eldest son of the reigning British monarch inherits possession of the duchy and title of Duke of Cornwall at birth

The Duke of Cornwall has the 'interest in possession' of the duchy's assets (such as estates) which means they enjoy its net income, do not have its outright ownership and do not have the right to sell capital assets for their own benefit.

1993 Prince Charles has voluntarily agreed to pay income tax at the normal rates (see: Finances of the British Royal Family).

The duchy generated income of £21.7m in 2017–18.

sooo I don't feel it's tax payers money ,it's the private income of Prince Charles .

Have to say that I think the Duchies of Cornwall and Lancaster should be handed over to benefit the UK .

TheMustressMhor · 15/01/2020 17:15

...although I imagine it's wonderful inside...

Froq · 15/01/2020 17:19

Very good point @CurlyWurlyTwirly

So we’ll have months of this then 🙄

The80sweregreat · 15/01/2020 17:22

If I were the Queen I'd make them stay in a nice hotel when they come back ( or one of the many other homes or palaces they have)
and just make Frogmore Cottage a let of some kind. I bet many posh folk would pay top dollar to stay there and they could recoup the costs of the renovations! Put it to some use.
I very much doubt we will see Meghan anyway ; Harry could be accommodated anywhere on his own.
It's not like they need to blow up the air beds in the spare room for him.

Cool0lady · 15/01/2020 17:23

peridito

What??? I don’t think you understand what the Dutchy of Cornwall is

When people die in Cornwall without a Will this money goes to Charles. When people die without a Will/relatives this money usually goes straight to the government for their spending (on NHS/Welfare/roads etc). How can you argue this isn’t money from the public?

I love the suggestion of them staying in an AirBnB Grin

A Royal Airs & Graces BnB perhaps?
