Previous thread

I’m not the original OP of the series. That credit must go to @TheMustressMhor
I just stepped in when the last thread filled up with no replacement

There is still an appetite for discussion / gossip depending on your POV.
I asked for MN to put it in the Royal Family topic as the subject is no longer headline news; but still ticking along. I think those people who are interested will find it and add their comments regardless of its location.

They really should be funding close protection themselves.
However as it will be overseas, the cost of Metropolitan police officers will be more than £600k ( £100 k pa for each officer)

Maybe they can pay for secret service if they are in the US or the Canadian equivalent.
The local police wherever they are will have to supplement their security anyway.

Given what happened to Diana, I think the RF will have to provide British officers. She dispensed with her ppos and Al Fayed’s private security was not up to the job.

There’ll be a way to fudge it so it works for them.

I've no doubt, Notmoresheep, and you are right; it would stink. However, that would require goodwill by the Home Office, a blind eye by the media and implied consent from the people to allow that to happen without a fuss being made.

I think those ships may now have sailed.

Wheresthebeach · 15/01/2020 16:28

I hear ya Sunset...its the only time I’ve cared at all about the RF but this is somehow grimly fascinating.

I think this court case will be a disaster.

The royal rota works by "sharing" access and in return the British press at least hold off in running a lot of stories/pictures that do get published internationally (pictures of the children/Cathrine topless etc).

It's a tried and tested way of the royal family excepting a degree of control over the press.

By opting out, H&M lose that control. They obviously feel that only engaging with press of their choice that they can control the narrative.

I think that's naive.

The foreign press will do as they please and in turn the gloves are off for the British press.

The court case is I think the first example of that.

There's absolutely no reason for the Mail not to fight this tooth and nail.

It's clear they aren't going to be getting any access to H&M in the foreseeable future - they have nothing to lose and potentially a lot to gain - given the case itself (especially if her father will testify) and if they win will be a huge story in itself.

I really can't believe just how many PR mistakes H&M have made and seem intent on keeping on making.

It's bizarre.

Same. That's why don't really understand the two sides of Meghan Haterz and Meghan Supporterz that's been described. I've only ever posted once or twice on such threads and didn't realise it was going on.

SingingLily · 15/01/2020 16:35

if they win will be a huge story in itself.

And one the Mail can recycle over and over whenever H&M get a mention anywhere else in the world. It would be the story that never dies.

1forAll74 · 15/01/2020 16:35

I read somewhere the other day, that quite a lot of media people and those who rush around taking photo's. have already gone out to Canada. to seek out H& M (being very private ! ) The Queen will be able to read about them , and see how happy they are, in her morning papers every day.. Though I don't know which papers she reads !

Regarding the title (dual US UK National here) Grace Kelly (remember her? [wink{) continued to hold dual nationality after her marriage to Renier of Monaco. Title by marriage is not what they can or would try to prevent. I believe the issue would come if fir example Megan was given a Duchy in her own right and then for example sat in the Lords. That would be a problem. And yet there have been MPs with dual nationality. I honestly can't imagine this getting enforced with rigour.

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/01/2020 16:40

H&M appear to have received spectacularly poor advice from their 'Team.'

yolofish · 15/01/2020 16:40

NotEverything leavit art!!! Grin let the discussion continue...

notmoresheep · 15/01/2020 16:41

OVienna is there any point in MM even getting dual nationality now?

DeRigueurMortis · 15/01/2020 16:45

Bore it's been quite widely reported that H&M keep ignoring the advice of their team (and some speculation as to is this why they have had a relatively high staff turnover).

There was quite a bit written about how their aides desperately tried to stop them making this announcement but as a couple they were determined to do so.

@MichaelMumsnet If you do delete this thread, and I wouldn't blame you, could you please at least 'mark the cards' of the persistent derailers? Preferably prevent them repeating their performances. Thank you.

@Cool0lady good post, I agree with you, especially about the Duchy money being taxpayer’s money (or rather, most of it is). But you might want to clarify that the second ‘they’ you’re referring to in this sentence isn’t William & Kate Wink

*Kate & William are funded by us but they do literally hundreds of engagements pet year. It’s hilarious they want all the perks/money/fame/titles without having to do to the boring bits because of their “happiness”

liverbird209 · 15/01/2020 16:52

Just stumbled upon this thread, rapidly backing away. Wow! So just much nastiness!

katiegoestoaldi · 15/01/2020 16:52

I think she was just after some positive press

TheMustressMhor · 15/01/2020 16:57

@liverbird209

This is the sixth thread in the series, which started last Wednesday.

None of them have any nastiness on them. We are just a group of posters who are interested in current affairs with specific regard to the RF (at the moment).

It would be a great shame if this thread were deleted, when the previous five have stood and have borne scrutiny.

Can I respectfully suggest to people that they do not respond to posts which are blatantly goading?

Just scroll on by.

DeRigueurMortis · 15/01/2020 16:57

I think I have solution...

The RF should launch a raffle - £1 a ticket and the winner gets to live (for free) in Frogmore Cottage for the rest of their life.

The money can then be used to pay H&M's security bill for the next couple of years until they get "financially independent".

When (if) H&M visit the U.K. they can bunk up with PC or HM - they have enough spare bedrooms I'm sure.Grin

suspended · 15/01/2020 16:58

Harry needs to have a serious think about who is advising him and Meghan and their 'strategic' moves because they aren't doing a very good job right now.

I do hope they havent paid for very expensive PR because its been mistake after mistake. Finally to see some 'candid' pap shots this morning of the seaplan (honestly why would paparazi even be in a Victoria seaport - unless they were called ahead of time)

for their own privacy needs, and to repair their reputation they just need to go and stay out of the limelight for a decent while.
