Previous thread

I’m not the original OP of the series. That credit must go to @TheMustressMhor
I just stepped in when the last thread filled up with no replacement

There is still an appetite for discussion / gossip depending on your POV.
I asked for MN to put it in the Royal Family topic as the subject is no longer headline news; but still ticking along. I think those people who are interested will find it and add their comments regardless of its location.

I doubt the MoS would have printed the story without first getting a signed affidavit from Thomas Markle and checking the evidence. That’s how it’s usually done, or at least used to be.

Imo the MoS will only settle if it’s political to do so, ie if they have directions from the RF to do so and they want to keep the RF on side. They wouldn’t be spending and risking the money and time this is likely to cost them if they weren’t adamant it is true.

Regardless, I think the witness statements that have been submitted to the High Court are already damaging enough to Meghan (and to a lesser extent Harry). If they do settle, they’d be paying the MoS’s costs, plus compensation - probably to a charity- and I suspect they’d have to produce a statement admitting that it was them who wanted to settle.

Blimey this thread has got a bit aggressive.

katiegoestoaldi · 15/01/2020 15:37

I don't think he'll be back even then Placid unless for family events, ie Beatrice's wedding

I think they've realised they've burned their bridges here and they will focus solely on the US while living in Canada. Though I do think long term their plan, well Meghan's plan, will be to live in L.A.

Iamdobby63 · 15/01/2020 15:37

joyfullittlehippo If any of that has truly happened to you then take it further, this isn’t the place. If it’s your (and others) intentions to continue to derail the thread so it’s taken down then I think you are doing a good job.

Will Harry and Meghan appear in court? Has a member of the royal family ever appeared in court before?

Think my question got lost. Will Harry and Meghan have to fund their own security outside UK?

katiegoestoaldi · 15/01/2020 15:44

I think they will Twenty. It's one thing funding security while they're abroad for short periods, ie working trips and possibly holidays, but not year round if they emigrate. I think the general mood, even those who aren't critical of their decision is, move abroad but don't expect us to fund your security

annielouise · 15/01/2020 15:44

MNHQ - you've left one at 15.24 by me. Probably the most important one!

EcocabbyRickShaw · 15/01/2020 15:44

@TwentyViginti

I think that's the subject of much of the current 'negotiation'

Iamdobby63 · 15/01/2020 15:45

annielouise Dont worry, anyone who saw the accusation has also seen your denial.

I think one of Queen Victoria’s children may have nearly been taken to court, can’t remember will have to refresh my memory.

notmoresheep · 15/01/2020 15:46

I think they will too, Twenty. They’ve said that’s what they’ll do. Taxpayer funding won’t go down well here or in Canada now.

diddl · 15/01/2020 15:47

I can't help thinking that he next time Harry's back it'll be for a funeral.

Moomin8 · 15/01/2020 15:47

Crikey, whatever happened?

katiegoestoaldi · 15/01/2020 15:47

It was such an ill thought out decision in their part to take the media to court. They'd gained so much goodwill from the Africa trip and then self destructed

I think their US advisers who aren't in touch with the British way, for want of a better phrase, thought they could ride the positive press and they'd get sympathy against the press. They shot themselves in the foot though. Big time.

Not entirely sure, I think they should but whether the RF will take the risk that their security is ‘secure’ or not is another matter.

diddl · 15/01/2020 15:48

I would have thought that PC will fund security for them.

notmoresheep · 15/01/2020 15:49

sadly I think you’re right diddl

It seems the only time in 100 years that a royal's actually appeared in court was Princess Anne back in 2002:

Did Princess Anne appear in court over her dog attacking another?

If they lose their titles/status they will just be normal members of the public, but also if Meghan still has American citizenship how would that work with compelling her to attend, especially as it is a civil case?

BillieEilish · 15/01/2020 15:50

They said in the 'Globe and Mail' (respected Canadian paper), someone posted a great link to it earlier, that Canada was 'not a halfway house' for people wanting to leave the UK and basically that this situation wouldn't do.

Also, a PP pointed out if they don't speak French they won't get too far. Which, in my view is true. But they may speak French.
