Previous thread

I’m not the original OP of the series. That credit must go to @TheMustressMhor
I just stepped in when the last thread filled up with no replacement

There is still an appetite for discussion / gossip depending on your POV.
I asked for MN to put it in the Royal Family topic as the subject is no longer headline news; but still ticking along. I think those people who are interested will find it and add their comments regardless of its location.

it will all come out when it comes to court

I admit to being genuinely interested in whether this will happen at all. It's a well worn path for such things to be settled out of court with "a donation to the plaintiff's charity", but the press have plenty of legal back-up, and somehow I don't see that happening this time - after all, the Queen using the "suddenly remembered conversation" gambit can hardly be used again

Time will tell, though ...

Mominatrix · 15/01/2020 14:32

Race is a social construct, just as gender is. Genetically speaking, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are more similar than Meghan Markle and Serena Williams, and not just because Meghan Markle is obviously mixed race. The next conversation which needs to happen is the recognition that focusing in simply on race is piss poor way to advance the dialogue on inequality based on ethic origins.

Moomin8 · 15/01/2020 14:32

I don't think they were phoning in to Women's Hour. It was a guest on Women's Hour repeating what she had heard people say.

It might have been emails or tweets or whatever

annielouise · 15/01/2020 14:32

joyfulllittlehippo: "He’s literally never even met his own grandchildren, even though some of them are adults." An complete lie. "literally"? There's photos of him, Meghan and two of his grandsons. Check your facts before speaking.

You also accused Thomas Markle about making it up when he was in hospital while those hospital papers have been shown in the press. Again check your facts before speaking.

You also said: "If I or other “Meghan defenders” were engaging in the malicious false reporting we’re accused of, we would have been banned for it."

Well you weren't banned for the two cases of malicious false reporting I present above so what a load of crap you talk.

You can't make judgments about whether or not someone has experienced racism based on how you think they look unless you've lived their life.

Kate was trolled today on the daily mail website as one pic had her pushing her hair back and someone wrote' clearly not interested ' or something when all the photos were actually nice and they seemed happy and relaxed and not as if it was a chore at all ! Just doing their job.
Some people will never be happy and I'm not a fan of the Royals at all. It must be hard for them doing engagements just now , but they seem to be doing alright and seem smiley enough and engaged with it all.
Such stupid criticism over nothing at all.

Marple03 · 15/01/2020 14:35

These threads have been a great read. nothing hateful but quite sensible analysis overall. Public are largely calling it out as a simple case of celebrity looking for more celebrity. The choice is always there to go away and live anonymously. An ordinary life is not what she sought, let's be honest. People are entitled to surmise/analyse her motives while she continues to have public profile.

From beginning, never could see how it was all going to work. At basic level, they have absolutely nothing in common. As far as having a "role" in Canada goes, heard canadian commentator on bbc today saying that you need to be able to speak French in canada for that.

And for goodness sake, if people have a problem with people having an opinion about them, then just dont read Smile

PlacidPenelope · 15/01/2020 14:36

The court case intrigues me too, Puzzled, I wonder if there will be a last minute both sides agree to discontinue proceedings and cover their own costs, I can only see downsides to Harry and Meghan's reputations if it goes ahead irrespective of whether or not they win.

HumousWhereTheHeartIs · 15/01/2020 14:37

@Windows85Agree with every word.

Also I find her really insincere in the same way I find Davina McCall, Holly Willoughby, Amanda Holden etc the same.

TheMustressMhor · 15/01/2020 14:38

But I can’t get worked up because some random woman told her DH’s granny in law she doesn’t want to work for the family business any more.

Fine. Don't get worked up.

But you seem to be (in actuality) very worked up indeed, as your posting on these threads shows.

Mominatrix · 15/01/2020 14:39

Understood Moomin. I was not commenting on a person's perceived experience, but the rationale of racism. (I am a scientist so I do find it peculiar).

annielouise · 15/01/2020 14:39

I was thinking about the two videos I saw of Meghan last night that I mentioned on the other thread. What I didn't expect was to think what an airhead she seemed. I've always thought Harry one but she came over the same - not too bright, even though I wouldn't have said that before, and also vapid, self-absorbed and shallow.

I think she has skills. She'd be a great marketing director or head of social media at some organisation - she knows what's on trend and how to spin. She's very ambitious, calculating (in terms of doing what she had to do to get exposure and ahead such as the odd charity thing) but so transparent. I saw it from the start. I was never convinced.

I've only seen Harry talk once. He was interviewed during one of the London marathons - well before Meghan was on the scene. He made a lame joke about signing his brother up next year behind his back, then paused and pulled back and made a funny face, as if waiting for the shrieks of laughter at his wit and humour. It was embarrassing. It made me cringe anyway. I just thought what a knobhead - he's been completely indulged all his life. And this is how he's ended up in this predicament.

Trexical · 15/01/2020 14:40

notmoresheep what you refer to are deductions not fact... do you have a dictionary to hand so you can work out the difference. This ( and the other zillion) threads on this topic are all based on conjecture and what you all (with your amazing rf insights) deduce.
The princes had to issue a statement as some other knowledgable plebs ( spot the oxymoron) had deduced that they must have fallen out and bullying was involved.
If trolling is calling out lazy analysis to feed gossip scavengers then I'm proud to troll away Grin

I think the Daily Mail will go for the throat in Court now.

It will be excruciating.

When Harry and Meghan were in South Africa the press there barely covered the visit. I presume Canadian press will be the same. It's only the British press who have a sycophantic interest in the Royals.

I find it a bit sad that Meghan seemed happy to dress down for her visit to the Women's refuge in Canada but presumably didn't feel she could do the same in Britain.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 15/01/2020 14:44

"@joyfullittlehippo*

The press have done a 180 and are now pretending Kate has never put a foot wrong just because they need “good” Kate to contrast with “bad” Meghan.
Just because they report on the things Kate is doing well now does not mean they are backtracking on anything they previously thought or said.

Kate has learnt from experience and has kept her own counsel. I'm not aware of her friends leaking information to the press. She seems to have adopted the 'never explain, never complain policy' and retained her dignity throughout. This must have been difficult in light of the affair allegations which Nicole Cliffe has now put down to her "personal editorializing' (does that mean she made it up?).

The Express in particular prints daily stories of the RF and things they've said or done in the past and they definitely don't exclude Kate from them.

The press are not saying she's never put a foot wrong. You must be hard of reading.

notmoresheep · 15/01/2020 14:46

oh FGS well its a discussion, so that’s kind of the whole point but isn’t my deductions, its a fact that they announced it on Insta, its a fact they came here briefly then she buggered off again, it appears to be a fact there was an emergency meeting and its a fact that they want it sorted quickly. Thats what these threads are talking about. Or do YOU have inside information that its all a hoax? Maybe to take attention of government ministers away from Brexit where they’re really needed? if so please enlighten us.

MoonbeamsAndCaterpillars · 15/01/2020 14:46

I think that insincerity you are detecting is maybe just media training, humous?

She was always going to come across more celeb like than other royals because she was in fact a celeb. I think people mainly liked that about her when she first was on the scene..? She seemed cool and glamorous compared to the others. I just think she was poorly prepared for royal life. Most people I know were huge fans and went a bit crazy over the wedding day etc. I know someone who was working at Doria Ragland's hotel when the wedding happened and she acted as if she had met a total SUPERSTAR. She was less gushy about having met a Hollywood actress in the same hotel.

This thread is the first time I've seen so many people say they don't like her personality. I wonder if that is hindsight, because of what's happened. Because everyone I spoke to about it, thought she was the bees knees around the wedding.

It's all gone tits up now, but I don't think it's her personality that's done it tbh.

PS: I am american born, so maybe I don't see her 'insincerity' in the same way..? I've been here many years though...so you'd think not.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 15/01/2020 14:47

I can only see downsides to Harry and Meghan's reputations if (the court case) goes ahead irrespective of whether or not they win

I believe the same, Penelope, but while I could be wrong, I honestly think the press have got the whole thing so far between their teeth that they'll go ahead anyway as a sort of "don't mess with us
" thing

As said, though, time will tell

MagicKingdomDizzy · 15/01/2020 14:47

The problem is she's not just some random woman, and it's not some obscure family business she's trying to retire from.

Her actions mean something and both her and Harry have the potential to cause problems for this country through their unvetted associations with people and businesses.

PlacidPenelope · 15/01/2020 14:47

Unless Thomas Markle posts on MN there is no physical way I can have made a malicious “false report” to MNHQ about him.

No, but you confidently asserted that his heart attack and subsequent hospitalisation was a lie and never happened and you have not retracted that statement despite posters pointing out documentary evidence to the contrary has been supplied to the High Court.

Not a false report to MNHQ about him but certainly a falsehood about a person you don't know and have never met, you seem to have no problem spreading such falsehoods about him and yet you scream blue murder with your accusations that other posters are doing so about Meghan - what goes for one goes for the other surely?
