Previous thread

I’m not the original OP of the series. That credit must go to @TheMustressMhor
I just stepped in when the last thread filled up with no replacement

There is still an appetite for discussion / gossip depending on your POV.
I asked for MN to put it in the Royal Family topic as the subject is no longer headline news; but still ticking along. I think those people who are interested will find it and add their comments regardless of its location.

joyful How would you interpret Meghan turning up at a women's refuge?

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 15/01/2020 14:10

Good points, @MagicKingdomDizzy

diddl · 15/01/2020 14:10

I do wonder if they have tried to be able to do things more "their way"?

In terms of more casual engagements.

Or is it to do with no more balcony/cenotaph appearances?

PlacidPenelope · 15/01/2020 14:12

Both Harry and Meghan have behaved badly throughout and seem to be acting with very little thought for the consequences of their actions and this has become apparent throughout their relationship and not just with this debacle.

joyfullittlehippo are you going to retract your claim that Thomas Markle never had a heart attack and was subsequently hospitalised bearing in mind documentary proof of that has been submitted to the High Court? Or are you going to claim the documents are somehow faked and that you have evidence of this (I'm sure the High Court would be delighted to hear from you if that were the case)?

peridito · 15/01/2020 14:13

One of the main criticisms of H&M is that they want to get rich by trading on their royal connections . Which is unproven and odd ,I'm sure they'd be richer if they stayed as full time working Royals .

It seems to me that they want freedom but want to support the Queen . They have said they want to work towards financial independence .

And this may have been a "bombshell" to the general public but I personally doubt it was a complete shock to William and Charles .

Spot on plane

Mominatrix · 15/01/2020 14:14

Add in other left-leading buzzwords like Feminism!, Save the Planet!, Down with Patriarcical Institutions! which the Sussexes have allied themselves to, and you see why they become darlings of certain circles.

Unfortunately, the message and the reality behind those messages are two different things.

@vivaforever

For those last looking for more details of the visit to the refugee, there's loads in the Canadian press

Thanks for the link. I’m actually more interested in the shelter - as it calls itself that, and not a refuge (and definitely not a “refugee” - than in the visit. I wanted to know if it accepts self-identifying women and it does.

GlitchStitch · 15/01/2020 14:16

Joyful I'm interested in your opinion- what do you think of their website, the setting up companies in Delaware, allegations that friends have leaked stories or tried to influence media reports to be more favourable etc? I know you are a staunch defender of Meghan but I'm wondering if there has been a point where you think- urgh this is all so tacky and calculated? Obviously you don't have to answer me but I'm interested in what you think.

OVienna · 15/01/2020 14:17

@Planeplane If Harry and Chelsy had tried this or Harry and Cressida, the privilege angle would be the primary concern here. There is no question of this, in my opinion. Their heads would be called for. What I can conclude from what I am seeing is that the perceived racism in some parts of the press (well, all in their view) trumps everything. However, if I said this, I would be accused of channeling Katie Hopkins by the Brits and that woman Meghan off Fox News (ex-FOx?) by the Yanks.

Mominatrix · 15/01/2020 14:18

perdito, Harry and Meghan have a personal net worth of max mid 8 figures. Gwenyth Paltrow, through GOOP has a new worth of about £250 million. Which do you think an ambitious person with eyes on world impasse would choose, even if it means selling things like candles "which smell like X's vagina"?

PlacidPenelope · 15/01/2020 14:18

joyfullittlehippo I don’t understand why people can’t just say “sure there are some racists and trolls who hate her and that’s bad, but here are legitimate reasons to criticise her.”

That exact phrase and sentiment has been repeated ad naseum on all of this series of threads.

notmoresheep · 15/01/2020 14:18

agree with TheMustressMhor.

Windows85 in my wilder imaginings about this I have wondered if this was Harry’s plan all along, payback to the family who damaged his mother so badly, the adultery, stripping her of her title, all of it. She has an iffy rep but he’s making choices too.

OVienna · 15/01/2020 14:20

I have expressed some views - got attacked on one.

Mominatrix · 15/01/2020 14:20

not world impasse, but world importance!

MoonbeamsAndCaterpillars · 15/01/2020 14:21

Yet some posters still insist that there is NO bashing, NO racism, that Meghan has absolutely not ever been victim of racism, that absolutely no one who dislikes Meghan is motivated by racism, and that the only dirty tricks (eg malicious fake reporting) are from Meghan defenders.

I don’t understand why people can’t just say “sure there are some racists and trolls who hate her and that’s bad, but here are legitimate reasons to criticise her.” Why the blanket denial that racism exists, or that bashing exists, or that anti-Meghan trolling exists?

I completely agree. It is frankly insane to suggest that there was no racism towards MM when she first came on the scene. There was. No, I didnt know about it till Harry made that big announcement and maybe if he hadn't said anything, it would have all gone away, but is that what people honestly want? Just brush it under the carpet.

That said, I can't stand it when people immediately cry racist when someone says anything remotely negative about her. But, I appreciate that some people are jumpy because she was indeed the target of racism and still is. It isn't ALWAYS racism though. Sometimes it's just dislike.

The Royal Family is small beer in global terms.

They could become the InstaRoyals and have an enormous marketing clout.

Trexical · 15/01/2020 14:23

notmoresheep you must have some amazing fly on the wall surveillance skills if you KNOW that their plans were not discussed beforehand with the family. Please share them so we can all appraise!
People like you hear something 3 times and it becomes fact.
Announcing something via Instagram does not scream I want full publicity it was simply the channel of choice...they could have conducted TV or magazine interviews for more share of shout.

You hate her ...I wish you all would just own it instead of trying to retrospectively justify your negative views ....I'm at the airport so have time to kill ..what's your excuse for wasting time on these threads lol

Moomin8 · 15/01/2020 14:23

I heard people yesterday (calling in) saying that Meghan can't be a victim of racism because she 'doesn't even look black' which ironically proves the point some people have made about racism being such an issue still.

Moomin8 · 15/01/2020 14:24

On radio 4 I meant to say

JulietJanuary · 15/01/2020 14:25

They have phone ins on Radio 4?!

Antigonads · 15/01/2020 14:26

I don't think they were phoning in to Women's Hour. It was a guest on Women's Hour repeating what she had heard people say.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 15/01/2020 14:26

I don’t understand why people can’t just say “sure there are some racists and trolls who hate her and that’s bad, but here are legitimate reasons to criticise her.” Why the blanket denial that racism exists, or that bashing exists, or that anti-Meghan trolling exists?

Plenty of people do admit this. I am one of them but I deny that I am racist, and I do not hate her.

notmoresheep · 15/01/2020 14:30

people like me do what? hahahaha.

if their plans were sorted out with the RF in advance there wouldn’t have been the Sandringham meeting and subsequent announcement, with a need to get it sorted. It would be done and dusted already. It doesn’t take any insider knowledge to figure that out. quit trolling the thread Trexical
