It’s been discussed on the Royal threads.

Queen Mum has trouble getting pregnant , some believed she hated DTD, there were suggestions it’s Albert who had trouble performing.
I wonder back in those days, 1920s , just how far advanced were fertility treatments , Were there medical treatments?

AppleKatie

Right so this thread took a weird turn after I went to sleep last night...

I know! I'm reading the updates like this Shock

Grin Are we assuming the royals lackeys on Mumsnet are ok with us discussing C&C 50 Shades of Grey-esq sex lives?

Imagine if the Daily mail run it as a story.....that would certainly take the heat off PW and MM!

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 03/05/2019 10:24

Am I odd for being strangely mesmerised by like LCC's weirdness? 😑

Artificial insemination has been around since the late 1700s and until fertility drugs were released it was used where men were infertile or impotent. Donor sperm is used if the father is infertile but that wouldn’t have been an option here and we can clearly see QMs descendants are from the George VI because of the strong family resemblance.

At the time there was very much a culture that sex was a marital right. It was legal for men to rape their wives and women were told if they didn’t like it they had to ‘lie back and think of England’. It would be absolutely unthinkable for a women married to a member of the country’s top dynasty to refuse to sleep with her husband and it also doesn’t fit with what we know about QMs character. She was a very sensual, flirty woman and was not at repressed or anxious.

George VI on the other hand was an extremely repressed and anxious man who was extremely vulnerable to stress and physically manifested his poor mental health in a severe stutter, chain smoking and a poor appetite which left him very thin. His stress levels also gave him a terrible temper and he repressed his anger until it came out in huge, terrifying bursts.

By far the most likely explanation is that George VI was unable to climax through penetrative sex which made artificial insemination necessary. I think the stories blaming it on the QM were to spare his blushes.

Get over it!!!!!

Get over it!!!!!

Get over what exactly?

MagicKingdomDizzy · 03/05/2019 10:38

FannyWork

That explanation sounds very plausible.

MagicKingdomDizzy · 03/05/2019 10:41

RubberTreePlant

*When it's done now days it's called IUI.

I think the idea is to get more of the key substance closer to its destination, IYSWIM? But I'm no expert.*

You're right about this. Sometimes the cervix or uterus is at an odd angle making it harder to conceive. So artificial insemination helps in these circumstances, if neither the man or woman is infertile.

lyralalala · 03/05/2019 10:48

Also sometimes fertility is just fickle for no obvious reason.

George VI seemed to perform fine in his pre marital dalliances so there may have been no rhyme nor reason to the fertility issues.

(I mainly say that as that happened with me - no obvious reasons, 2 1/2 years of trying, including several rounds of assistance and nothing. Then twins conceived 3 months later. Everyone assumed an issue with one or other of us and we got ‘lucky’ except we’ve both gone on to have multiple children easily with new spouses!)

I misused Bonnie Prince Charlie

I always get real pleasure from saying that name, it has a lovely ring to it, very lyrical.

I once worked at a tourist attraction in Edinburgh and an Italian came up to me and asked to see a picture of 'The beautiful prince Charles'

I thought, bloody hell I've heard of some weird sexual kinks in my time, but Prince Charles???? Surely even his mother would think he was on the ugly side of plain, but it takes all sorts to make a world.

I walked her to the first picture of Charlie Windsor to which she said, 'no, the beautiful Prince Charles'. So i found another picture, which I thought might be more to her liking, but that made her even more exasperated, until it finally dawned on me that by 'the beautiful Prince Charles' she meant 'Bonnie Prince Charlie '.

MagicKingdomDizzy · 03/05/2019 11:08

Also regarding previous Prince Charles (s), the reason Prince Charles won't use his name when he becomes King is because of the executions of Charles I and II, and also because of Bonnie Prince Charlie and his ambiguous claim to the throne.

Apparently he is planning to use the name George instead.

Can't remember where I heard all this though, so not sure how credible it is!

Charles 2 wasn't executed though...

@Myimaginarycathasfleas

I've got an IKEA kitchen table I need to get rid of. Do you think if I put it on EBay as a sex table it'd get more interest?

Go for it - just don't let the buyer collect 😅

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 03/05/2019 11:15

Id like him to use King Philip

MagicKingdomDizzy · 03/05/2019 11:18

FunkyKingston

Thanks for the correction, my mistake.

MyBlueMoonbeam · 03/05/2019 11:18

Ooops - lowering the tone again 😬

On a more serious note I recorded a documentary on PBS last night about Liz & Wallis Simpson which I'm looking forward to watching 😉

FunkyKingston · 03/05/2019 11:21

Thanks for the correction, my mistake.

I've heard the notion that he'll be King George VII too, I'm personally a bit dubious as he's been known as Charles in thr public eye for 70 odd years now.

MagicKingdomDizzy · 03/05/2019 11:23

FunkyKingston

It's strange isn't it? You'd think if there were negative connotations about the name Charles, they wouldn't have used it in the first place Confused

I know, he was second in line to the throne when he was born, mind you Charles did the same with William. William 3 (he of Orange) is a hugely divisive figure especially in Northern Ireland.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/05/2019 11:37

What does being a 'working royal' consist of

Maybe either being so close to the top that it's expected, or so useless at anything else that they need to do a few engagements to justify their lavishly funded lifestyles?

Don't forget Sophie and Edward were once presented as "modern royals with proper jobs" until it all came crashing down and they instead became "working royals" in return for a LOT of dosh

Ditto Andrew with his dubious friends and disastrous performance as Trade Envoy. Come to think of it, does he actually do anything useful these days, or just swan around on the Queen's ticket in the hope nobody says anything?

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 03/05/2019 11:46

@MyBlueMoonbeam 😟😂

PancakePatti · 03/05/2019 11:55

Has anyone mentioned Edward VII’s own special sex chair that was heir at a Parisien brothel?

PancakePatti · 03/05/2019 11:55

Kept not heir!!

Laodamia · 03/05/2019 12:13

RTE, the Irish national broadcaster, with a bit of a scoop Grin
