apart from a brief period in the 70s, I don’t think he was ever considered dishy

I saw him and spoke to him iniuu 1977. I was 12 so, you'd think, prime material for being impressed by a "handsome prince*. He was... okay. Looked like himself, as it were, but I was very struck by his skin: it was very pink and white. I'd been living abroad in a hot country for a bit by then and was used to people looking more tanned (it was the 70s; we knew not of SPFs and skin cancer and wrinkles; my mama used to grease herself up in olive oil and lie out for hours in the baking sun). Charles, however, looked like he hardly ever ventured outside.
Odd I know as he had the reputation of being an action man* what with lots of polo and skiing etc

*No! Not that he was plastic and had no genitals. Tsk! That's Action Man. Quite different. Almost definitely.

LaMarschallin · 05/05/2019 07:35

Oh poo. Thought I'd previewed but...
Sorry for the typos. Think it's still clear though.

All hands on parents rich and poor do find parenting hard, but there is a huge difference between well off famlies with an army of help to do everything from cleaning , cooking , looking after the children, laundry and no money worries and those really struggling with childcare, food, and mortgage.
So I really hate to see a struggling family’s on minimum wage reaction when they hear one of the young royals complaining about how hard it is being a parent.

Yes this is what irritates me the most about defending the younger Royals poor workrate. The whole "Oh Kates a SAHM and Wills just wants to spend as much time with his children before he becomes King" bollocks. Most people manage to spend time with their children in between cooking, cleaning, washing and working in a job that involves doing a hell of a lot more than 2 hours of hand shaking and chit chat 100 times a year.

Eligible Prince Charles

Itsnotmesothere · 05/05/2019 09:08

Completely agree with @LaMarschallin and @bluewavysea. It's really annoying to be censored.

queenofarles · 05/05/2019 09:28

Never thought of him as dishy .

Now Prince Philip is very Dishy Wink

I was Chatting to an old lady recently and she told me she met Louis Mountbatten in the 1950s and he was very good looking , even though he was in his 50s .

NaturalBornWoman · 05/05/2019 10:34

What happened to the latest MM thread - did the usual wreckers turn up to get it deleted?
Yes its always the same isn't it. Angry monarchists refusing to accept any opinion but their own.

I haven't seen any angry monarchists. I have seen a lot of very angry anti-Meghanists and conspiracy theorists slagging off anyone who has raised the slightest objection to accusations of say, faking pregnancy.

Becles · 05/05/2019 11:19

The thread was taken over by increasingly vile posts not so subtly Implying MM was X and Y etc etc.

They then randomly sprinkled snide"we luffs MM" posts to imply deletions were because posters weren't on message, rather than mounting bile.

lyralalala · 05/05/2019 11:22

Every time one of those threads get deleted I fear that battle will end up on this thread again

bluewavysea · 05/05/2019 11:40

Not seen any anger from that side, people giving opinions, saying what they think. No need for the anger and outrage. The anger is all one sided

Becles · 05/05/2019 11:43

@lyralalala

They are here already sadly. Haven't you seen the snide"we luffs MM" posts here too?

LaMarschallin · 05/05/2019 11:52

Really? I've seen all of the above. Maybe because I think this is a lighthearted thread and haven't an axe to grind.

They then randomly sprinkled snide"we luffs MM" posts to imply deletions were because posters weren't on message, rather than mounting bile.

Well, maybe MB shouldn't have specifically referred to a "pregnant woman" in their reason for pulling the thread. I saw the "luffs MM" posts as mildly taking the piss. Maybe I'm under invested. Wouldn't be the first time; won't be the last.

Now, has anybody heard of La Goulue, who is the sort of person I lurk around here to get to know (I'm alternating the Patrick Jephson book with a biography of Edward VII). Apparently he had a bit of a thing with her and her first words to him were along the lines of "Is your mother paying for this?".
And she used the "tu " form rather than the "vous"! Talk about raunchy....

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Goulue

BTW, I do like MM enormously.

LaMarschallin · 05/05/2019 11:54

MN not MB.
Preview, La M!

MagicKingdomDizzy · 05/05/2019 11:55

FannyWork

It’s called ‘Ma’am Darling’. It’s not really a biography, it’ a series of vignettes.

Thanks, will see if I can get one.

Itsnotmesothere · 05/05/2019 11:57

I've always thought Prince Philip was very handsome in his youth and even into sixties. Blush Not now obviously.

MagicKingdomDizzy · 05/05/2019 11:59

It's lighthearted tongue in cheek stuff. No one is actually being nasty about MM, if they were, this thread wouldn't still be here.

lyralalala · 05/05/2019 12:03

They weren’t/aren’t snide. They were tongue in cheek in fitting with the totally tongue in cheek tone of these threads in general.

Those of us who’ve been active on these threads have barely said anything about MM other than to ask other people not to get the thread trashed again.

They were no more snide than the gazza comments.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/05/2019 12:40

Every time one of those threads get deleted I fear that battle will end up on this thread again

Unfortunately the MO of two or three posters has become very obvious through constant use ... they'd rather MM wasn't discussed at all, so try to create a bunfight in order to get threads deleted

It's surely better not to respond to the more outrageous posts unless it's to report them to HQ, but sadly folk always get drawn in and yet another thread disappears

InterchangeableEmma · 05/05/2019 12:41

I suspect those threads would maintain a better tone and be more long lived if they were moved to the royal family topic rather than left in bloody AIBU.

InterchangeableEmma · 05/05/2019 12:43

These threads would do well to be moved too

AGnu · 05/05/2019 12:48

So... Umm... Do we know if any other historical royals had their own sex chairs? Super subtle attempt to revert to the original topic

Samcro · 05/05/2019 12:51

was the Keith Allen mentioned Lillys dad or someone else?

lyralalala · 05/05/2019 13:05

I think only Edward is known to have a sex chair AGnu

The how of his chair is still puzzling me, but I've no advance on my last suggestion of that

MagicKingdomDizzy · 05/05/2019 13:21

InterchangeableEmma

I'm sure if MNHQ wanted to move the threads they would. They do it with all the Brexit ones after all.

Maybe they like having a thread on Mumsnet for once, that's good natured, informative and doesn't descend into a bunfight.

RubberTreePlant · 05/05/2019 13:34

Yes, Lily's dad @Samcro
