It’s called ‘Ma’am Darling’. It’s not really a biography, it’ a series of vignettes.

FannyWork · 04/05/2019 17:40

The Keith Allen doc was shown years ago on TV here. Don’t know if it was cut. The whole thing was funded by Al Fayed so it’s not really reliable.

Laodamia · 04/05/2019 17:49

Keith Allen is currently crowdfunding for an Assad apologist doc that claims the BBC faked news about a 2013 airstrike on a Syrian school.

He's full of shit.

MarkleSparkle · 04/05/2019 18:12

Thanks all for the info on Keith Allen. My knowledge comes from Wikipedia.

MarkleSparkle · 04/05/2019 18:15

So is limited, I meant to add!

MissEliza · 04/05/2019 18:23

My dad's cousin worked in a members only club in London in the 50s, which PM frequented.!She visited around the time the King was seriously ill. When Dad's cousin served her, she said 'how is your father, ma'am?' PM turned frostily to her and said 'you mean His Royal Majesty?' She never did answer the question. Dad loves to bring that anecdote up in his republican rants! 'Who the f@&k do these people think they are?' he says ad nauseaum!

ByeClaire · 04/05/2019 18:26

RubberTreePlant but it’s all on the internet anyway is what I’m saying. It was in response to prickle saying there is more in the foreign press. Which is true. But the gossip and pap shots is there for anyone to see if you know where to look. I never buy papers with pap shots, in fact I never buy the papers anymore come to think of it.

LaMarschallin · 04/05/2019 19:11

Oh, yes! That's an excellent book. I love Craig Brown.
I'm reading 'Shadows of a Princess' about the late Princess of Wales by Patrick Jephson. Ok.. it's a bit schlocky. BUT I got it for £1.99 in a discount book shop.

Hmm... yeah. There's probably a reason it was discounted. Riveting though!

RubberTreePlant · 04/05/2019 19:15

No, no, no! It's the European doo-dah thing

We don't get the same internet everywhere.

I sound like a tinfoil hatter Smile I'm going to have to google to find out if there's a name for it.

RubberTreePlant · 04/05/2019 19:33

Oh I can't find the name of it. Maybe I AM a tinfoil hatter and I dreamt the whole thing Confused

SevenSeasofRye · 04/05/2019 19:46

The thing is the RF have no idea at all about what it's like to be a normal person. Those who have been born Royal don't understand about the minimum wage, having to pay your rent/mortgage or the price of food. They live on another level altogether and only have the foggiest idea of a normal experience. They wouldn't I imagine even know where to start to determine if their staff were fairly treated, because they don't know what fairness is. They probably don't even understand what a zero hours contract is.
I like Kate and William, but all this ' oh yes we're normal really, we're so tired with three young children ' etc is bollocks.

queenofarles · 04/05/2019 21:01

All hands on parents rich and poor do find parenting hard, but there is a huge difference between well off famlies with an army of help to do everything from cleaning , cooking , looking after the children, laundry and no money worries and those really struggling with childcare, food, and mortgage.
So I really hate to see a struggling family’s on minimum wage reaction when they hear one of the young royals complaining about how hard it is being a parent.

BishopBrennansArse · 04/05/2019 21:07

Wish I could get that book from the one that was on Charles' staff but the print version is over $100 and you can't download the kindle version in this country. Anyone know if there's a way to get around it?

I think Princess Margaret must have been furious as she got older and watched her niece and nephews getting no grief for hooking up with divorcees.

A lot is made of Charles not being able to marry Camilla until after the QM died, but she allowed them to meet at her home. I think it was likely as much about PM as the QM.

If my sister said no to me marrying a divorcee unless I have up my house, my income and my title and then she allowed her son, who was a higher rank to me, to do exactly the same (or worse as there was an actual affair) I’d be pretty bitter as well.

Although there are enough stories to suggest she wasn’t a nice person.

Exactly queen

Plastictattoo · 04/05/2019 21:27

Good point Lyra. I'd not thought of that. The M'ama Darling book is fascinating. I was horrified by some of the accounts of her attitudes in early life but felt very sorry for her by the end.

Yes, I have just ordered it from eBay uk £2.99

Puzzledandpissedoff · 04/05/2019 22:16

Their sales will be going up a bit on the back of Mumsnet, Curly ... I've just ordered it myself!!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 04/05/2019 22:19

Well we can all have a little book group discussion about it. However, the good reads review says the author is a bit dim and like Bridget Jones (drinks and sleeps around) but not in a good way ( her parents keep bailing her out as she is always broke).

bluewavysea · 04/05/2019 22:27

What happened to the latest MM thread - did the usual wreckers turn up to get it deleted?
Yes its always the same isn't it. Angry monarchists refusing to accept any opinion but their own. Defending a family who don't give two hours about them. Why they take it all so personal is beyond me.

LaMarschallin · 04/05/2019 23:06

And many accusations of racism if anyone failed to recognise that MM is a goddess who we are blessed - BLESSED I tell you! - to have amongst us.
To be serious which I try to avoid, it's a lazy way of getting a thread closed.

SweetestSugar · 04/05/2019 23:18

@Daisypie I've just read the Amazon preview of that book - sounds juicy! Grin

SweetestSugar · 04/05/2019 23:19

www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0077D8OJC/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Oh - the book is available in the UK... I wonder if it is edited?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 05/05/2019 07:09

I’ve had a read of the preview of the palace diaries.
The author seems to swoon about Prince Charles right from the get go.
Bit wierd; apart from a brief period in the 70s, I don’t think he was ever considered dishy... and that may have been out of politeness!
