The Hague trip is the day after Amsterdam Puzzled

contentedsoul · 03/05/2019 18:09

I really struggle with this infatuation
Royalty is there only because their ancestors were better at killing, maiming and raping others - yet, today they are applauded WTF!!

RubberTreePlant · 03/05/2019 18:15

I don't think you'll find many "infatuated" royal fans on this thread @contentedsoul Grin

Although we DO all agree that Meg is marvellous, uniquely talented, and a shining example to the rest of us SmileWink

SevenSeasofRye · 03/05/2019 18:16

Another story about M being high handed with staff in the DM, make of it what you will.

RubberTreePlant · 03/05/2019 18:18

Yes I just saw that. Is it actually possible to taste small amounts of egg in a cooked dish?

Obviously our wonderful, adored Duchess is very talented indeed!

MarkleSparkle · 03/05/2019 18:20

I can’t really see HM taking her to one side in the same room, I imagine she’d be far more subtle about it.

FunkyKingston · 03/05/2019 18:26

I have no strong views over Meghan Markle eirher way, but wouldn't putcany credence in a story written by the Daily Mail. In fact if the Daily Mail published a story saying i had a hole in my arse, I'd feel to check before i believed it.

FunkyKingston · 03/05/2019 18:30

What's the history of Luton?

Vans, hats, a shite football team who had a plastic pitch in the 80s and Tommy Robinson.

lyralalala · 03/05/2019 18:33

Agree lyra it would be ludicrous for Charles to change his royal name upon taking the throne.

I think it was difference in years gone by when the royals were only written about in newspapers or maybe mentioned on the wireless.

They are much more recognisable now so it would be really weird to suddenly have King George followed by King Arthur followed by King Alexander when we know Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince George.

It kinda made sense for George VI. It was reminding people of his father and showing some sort of stability after the abdication, but not now.

TooManyPaws · 03/05/2019 18:34

Sophie has been talking about Louise's birth on her trip to India. First time a royal was born in an NHS hospital though they had no choice as the nearest.

RubberTreePlant · 03/05/2019 18:36

The thing is @FunkyKingston that, as repellent a publication as the DM is, it does have a history of very good Palace contacts. Notably, Richard Kay's inside track with Princess Di, but not just him.

It's interesting the way this relationship between the inside sources and the tabloids works. Accurate reports get published all the time but nobody believes them.

Princess Di had to cooperate with Morton's book and THEN pose for set-up doorstep "paparazzi" snaps to "stand up" what she'd personally and assiduously been leaking for years.

Bizarre way to run things. Ludicrous behaviour from our ruling family.

This current situation promises to become a live action replay of all that.

beanaseireann · 03/05/2019 18:38

If the DM stories are true ....Shock

lyralalala · 03/05/2019 18:41

Sophie has been talking about Louise's birth on her trip to India. First time a royal was born in an NHS hospital though they had no choice as the nearest.

I was reading an article the other night that when Sophie called the Queen’s gynaecologist, who was looking after her, when she was in labour he told her to call an ambulance and get to the nearest hospital.

Because of a mix up with security and the likes the police were dispatched and then an ambulance and the Dr got to Frimley Park at the same time as her. Apparently another 10/15 minutes of a delay and she’d have been in real trouble.

The Queen was said to be seriously upset at both the situation and the fact that security issues could have killed her DIL and grandchild.

It must have been terrifying for Sophie waiting and waiting.

RubberTreePlant · 03/05/2019 18:42

They wouldn't dare publish anything they didn't have sources for. The BRF are a lot more litigious than they once were.

Complete circus, isn't it?

Haworthia · 03/05/2019 18:51

It was a placental abruption, right? How awful that “security” was prioritised over an emergency. Sophie must have been terrified.

AppleKatie · 03/05/2019 18:56

Seriously terrified. It’s an unenviable gilded cage sometimes.

You can see how a)this would have impacted on Sophie’s personality b) the relationship with HM would have been effected.

Itsnotmesothere · 03/05/2019 18:57

I think the DM story over the egg is true. NB: I do not have insider info. Back in the day the DM wrote plenty of goady articles about the DoC, criticising her social class, work ethic and pretty much anything else. I don't remember articles where they "revealed" that she had been a bitch to so and so though.

I think there's no smoke without fire and there's been a few similar stories about the DoS. Maybe it's just a culture clash? Aren't Americans famed for being direct? Perhaps she should have been like I'm terribly sorry but I seem to be tasting egg in this dish. Would you mind awfully if it was taken out?

noodlenosefraggle · 03/05/2019 18:59

Another story about M being high handed with staff in the DM, make of it what you will

The thing is, how can MM be the most imperious in a family that requires their staff to put toothpaste on their toothbrush and carry around a toilet seat for them wherever they go?

If the Queen is dressing down a grown woman in front of staff, that's not really on, and if a member of Royal staff is leaking private conversations to the press, that's not really on either. I didn't understand the egg story. Did she think there was egg in a vegan dish?

AppleKatie · 03/05/2019 19:06

I’ve ditched my principles and read the DM article. Doesn’t sound like a dressing down or a big deal to me. (If it happened)

She was by the sound of it talking like an American about the dish, HM overheard and didn’t like her tone so told her that’s not how the RF speak.

Tbh the royal family have a very distinct way of speaking that would be a challenge for most culturally British people to keep up with let alone an American.

I should imagine that all royal brides/grooms receive months of etiquette training for the role. It’s different for those that grew up in the firm.

Doesn’t make her rude just different.

RubberTreePlant · 03/05/2019 19:07

It flags up that there's a market for tiny little leaked snippets, though, doesn't it?

Itsnotmesothere · 03/05/2019 19:11

@Noodlenosefraggle. It was a macrobiotic dish and DoS had every right to be upset. I too would be upset if such a thing happened to me.

NoYo · 03/05/2019 19:11

Caught up at last.

I think the baby will arrive today / tomorrow.
I read the story about MM on the DM and I think it's a storm in a teacup, if indeed true. Some vile comments on there though about our wonderful Megs.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 03/05/2019 19:21

It was a macrobiotic dish and DoS had every right to be upset.

But she was being assured there was no egg. So she was effectively accusing staff of lying to her.

Laodamia · 03/05/2019 19:25

God, are macrobiotic diets still a thing? I thought they were in a retirement home with other early 00's fads....like wheatgrass shots and Juicy Couture velour tracksuits.

Itsnotmesothere · 03/05/2019 19:26

@myimaginarycathasfleas. I wrote that with my tongue firmly wedged in cheek.
