They wouldn't dare publish anything they didn't have sources for.

But the sources may not be accurate. Or the sources may be taking a kernel of something that happened and embellished it.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 03/05/2019 19:39

I was being a bit dense there, wasn't I, @Itsnotmesothere? I really must untwist my knickers 😁

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 03/05/2019 19:41

I think I was rather distracted by noodle's image of HM the Queen going everywhere with a lavatory seat tucked under her arm.

RubberTreePlant · 03/05/2019 19:46

The standard U.K. print journalism generally adheres to, is to have two credible sources corroborating each other. The editors and the in-house lawyers will insist on that.

If they don't have that, they won't print, though they sometimes hint.

Of course, within that, the tabloids may well go after trivia, scandal and frippery that the broadsheets wouldn't bother with.

RubberTreePlant · 03/05/2019 19:47

But she was being assured there was no egg. So she was effectively accusing staff of lying to her.

Yes, I think that's what ruffles the feathers.

Still not story of the century Smile

I've lived in the US and have lots of American friends. They can come across as being aggressive or rude sometimes when from their point of view, they're just being straightforward. I can totally imagine what the DM says happening.
I think MM is a perfectionist and a control freak. I remember the lady from the Kingdom choir said they had to send several versions of their arrangement til H and M were satisfied. Somehow I can't imagine H having strong opinions about a choir so I took it as MM wanting everything to be perfect. The lady didn't seem to mind though.

Relax, mycat - isn't it Charles who's reputed to insist on his own loo seat? And his own food ... and his own mixed drinks ... and his own furniture ... and his own art work ... ?

I recommend Rebel Prince by Tom Bowers for an interesting read. Even if you subtract 90% as exaggeration it still leaves the impression of someone for whom "the wheel's still spinning but the hamster's dead"

RubberTreePlant · 03/05/2019 20:03

"the wheel's still spinning but the hamster's dead"

I have never heard that expression before! But I think I can figure it out Smile

I don't see how royals-from-birth could possibly turn out "normal". Too many yes men. Too much indulgence. Skewed perspective.

lyralalala · 03/05/2019 20:04

It was a placental abruption, right? How awful that “security” was prioritised over an emergency. Sophie must have been terrified.

Yeah it was placental abruption. From the sound of it it was a genuine mix up, but must have been terrified.

@AppleKatie you can really see how that could change their relationship. That was either going to bring them really close or turn into a proper DIL/MIL spat!

I think you can tell how close Sophie is to the Queen with the way her father is included in so many things. People talk about the Middletons and their involvements, but since her mother died Sophie’s father has been invited to join the royals on Christmas Day. That says a lot.

AppleKatie · 03/05/2019 20:06

I didn’t know that, that’s nice.

SevenSeasofRye · 03/05/2019 20:10

Sophie and the Queen are meant to be very close.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 03/05/2019 20:17

Didn’t know that about Sophie’s dad.
I had heard they were close. At BP they used to watch tv together and are apparently fans of military history.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 03/05/2019 20:21

@Puzzledandpissedoff Thank you for clarifying. It is bonkers though isn't it? I shudder to think what happens if the Royal bottom needs a wipe.

SevenSeasofRye · 03/05/2019 20:27

I read the Rebel Prince. It really does not paint a pretty picture of Charles at all.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/05/2019 20:30

Another one who didn't know that; it's really rather touching

I shudder to think what happens if the Royal bottom needs a wipe

Isn't that what Michael Fawcett's for? Wink As RubberTree said, "Too many yes men. Too much indulgence. Skewed perspective" ... they don't stand a hope in hell basically

SenecaFalls · 03/05/2019 21:08

I shudder to think what happens if the Royal bottom needs a wipe.

Hence that once highly sought-after position of Groom of the Stool.

DialDownTheIanPaisley · 03/05/2019 21:21

Don’t they have 5 changes of clothes or something on Christmas Day? Not as relaxing as you might think for Sophie’s dad.

AppleKatie · 03/05/2019 21:27

Christmas Day isn’t relaxing for anyone who isn’t a teenager though 😂

One would assume it’s less weird for Sophie’s dad than it would be for joe Bloggs since she was hardly living an ‘average’ life before she married. (I assume, realise I don’t actually know!)

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 03/05/2019 21:28

@SenecaFalls GOOS. 🤢

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 03/05/2019 21:31

Sophie came from an affluent middle class background but was by no means aristocratic. So, pretty average in a lot of ways!

Laodamia · 03/05/2019 21:34

since her mother died Sophie’s father has been invited to join the royals on Christmas Day.

Poor man would probably prefer to be a friend's house wearing a paper hat and snoozing in front of the TV.

Fozzleyplum · 03/05/2019 22:00

Sorry to drag the conversation back to Edward VII's sex chair, but look what I found when googling it to show DH - a Dirty Bertie sex chair for your royal dolls' house. Little Tikes it most certainly isn't.

Australian Gogglebox showing people watching a programme about Victoria that shows the presenters describing Bertie's sex chair (one of them is standing on it)

Grin I'm buckled laughing again

Daisypie · 03/05/2019 22:20

Gogglebox is the perfect medium for this!

lyralalala · 03/05/2019 22:29
