I know that. Harley's becomes king etc but what happens to the others? Will they be left money/homes/? Do they inherit anything? Is the queen allowed to leave them royal 'stuff'?

Might be a bit random but I just thought of it Grin

Is he going to restyle himself as 'King Harley'?
I'm picturing him in leathers.

Ugh.

Ilovecaindingle · 13/01/2017 20:17

GlitterIsTheEnemy · 13/01/2017 20:18

Ilovecaindingle · 13/01/2017 20:20

Would his ears fit on the stamp? Grin

SandunesAndRainclouds · 13/01/2017 20:20

I cannot unsee that image.

Isn't it treasonous to speculate about the death of a reigning monarch?

DanceTheBlues · 13/01/2017 20:22

Imagine going through all the trouble of making the new pound coins ready for March and then having to change the picture on them! Will money with the Queen's head on stop being legal tender?

Suttonmum1 · 13/01/2017 20:23

We have a party in the dim and distant hope that we're one step closer to getting rid of the monarchy?

MyBreadIsEggy · 13/01/2017 20:23

Ilovecaindingle
would his ears fit on the stamp?!
Grin I'm in stitches Grin

trollspoopglitter · 13/01/2017 20:24

The money thing will be so bizarre. We will be the generation grumbling, in my day, all the money looked the same!

Good thing no-one is doing that then. They're asking what happens after her death.

zoobaby · 13/01/2017 20:24

She can only give away her personal fortune belongings. So quite a bit of money and jewellery and land that she may have directly inherited or acquired. But anything that is Crown property (like Buck House, most of the land, most of the jewels) remains as such and would be available for Charles and Camilla to use.

Nearlyhadenough · 13/01/2017 20:25

I think this is actually a good question (if a bit delicate and sensitive) as very few of us will remember this ever happening before.

TrustySnail · 13/01/2017 20:26

I think the Queen can bequeath her personal effects, but all crown property would pass automatically to Charles - it would be for him to decide as King if other royals might then take residence in the various palaces.

On this subject, I once read that Charles will style himself George VII rather than Charles III to avoid bad associations with Charles I and II. I don't know if that's still his intention.

EdithWeston · 13/01/2017 20:27

Unfortunately, the brilliantly informative threads about what is likely really to happen have all been in chat, not the topic so have probably died themselves.

Crown property passes to the next monarch.

Personal property is distributed according to the provisions of the Will. Bit like everyone else, but with far more diamonds.

PossumInAPearTree · 13/01/2017 20:27

Buckingham palace and I believe Windsor castle belong to the state/crown but not sure about Sandringham and balmoral?

It was in Henry VIII's time. Probably not any more!

The Queen can bequeath her personal/family possessions, such as Balmoral and Sandringham, but not things that belong to the nation, such as Windsor and Buck House.

Some of her jewellery is personal property, that she was given or inherited. Some would count as belonging to the nation.

Her racehorses and the horses she rides would be her personal property. The horses that pull the royal carriages on ceremonial occasions aren't hers.

And so on.

Bibs2014 · 13/01/2017 20:34

Thanks for all the sensible answers - and the funny ones!!
Grin

How much money does she have to personally leave to the others?

I thought of this because of Lord Snowdon dying and what would happen to his two children being grandchildren of a King. Would they have money that passed down from king George to Princess Margaret?

We all get an extra day off for the funeral

PossumInAPearTree · 13/01/2017 20:37

I'd have thought that king George would have passed money down to Margaret as well as Elizabeth.

Charles is wealthy before he is monarch with the Duchy of Cornwall. So I would have thought when he dies he would leave money from that side of things to harry as well as William.

PossumInAPearTree · 13/01/2017 20:38

I was just wondering about a day off!
