What happens when the queen dies?

I know that. Harley's becomes king etc but what happens to the others? Will they be left money/homes/? Do they inherit anything? Is the queen allowed to leave them royal 'stuff'?

Might be a bit random but I just thought of it Grin

Talking of burial, where would she get buried? Is it proper' 6 foot under' or a vault in St Paul's or whichever? Diana got put on an island in the grounds of her family seat to keep the hoi polloi away. Does the Queen have a family seat with an island too? Grin

There's no guarantee Charles will become George. He can use either Phillip, Arthur or George as they are his middle names. I can't find anywhere that says he definitely will change.

Ach, Gimmee, the Royalists would be loudest. Can you imagine Radio Scotland of she dies in Scotland? Intelligent comment from John Beattie and Kay Adams maybe? Hmm

TrustySnail · 13/01/2017 21:15

And bleurgh, I don't want to think of being in bed with him, no matter what he calls himself!!

Come on, he wasn't bad looking in his younger days! Wink

She will probably be buried at Frogmore which is where most of the most recent royals were buried.

Pluto30 · 13/01/2017 21:16

Possibly (probably) a stupid question, but will Charles definitely become King?

My friend and I were having a conversation yesterday about this. I was under the impression that the title would be transferred to him automatically as he's next in line, but she thinks that it'll skip Charles and go straight to William. Is that possible, or likely?

PuppetInParadize · 13/01/2017 21:17

Chas decided years ago he wouldn't be King Charles #3. A bit of a shadow caused by #1 and 2. Possibly someone told him there would never be a Chas 3, but i think it was his decision.

pluto that can only happen if Charles abdicates. It can't skip him directly but he can refuse it. A few people think he will.

Pluto30 · 13/01/2017 21:22

That's what I thought. Thanks for that. Smile

I don't see him abdicating, personally, but I suppose stranger things have happened!

DanGleballs · 13/01/2017 21:22

Or St George's chapel in Windsor.

TrustySnail · 13/01/2017 21:24

pluto that can only happen if Charles abdicates.

It's theoretically possible that Charles will predecease his mother - and not too wildly improbable, given the female history of longevity in the family.

PuppetInParadize · 13/01/2017 21:24

I got the idea Chas was quite keen on becoming king.No idea where i got that nugget. DH probably!

TheWoodlander · 13/01/2017 21:24

The country will mourn a lady who put duty before her personal interests at all times. Whatever people think of the monarchy, the Queen has served her country faithfully at the expense of her own happiness and at the expense of her relationship with her own children. She has never embarrassed the country or done anything against the national interest.

Agree totally. But then, I have just watched the Crown Wink It's v good, I had no idea half of what went on. I do believe she has sacrificed a great deal for her duty. I admire her immensely.

Manumission · 13/01/2017 21:24

Pre decimalisation it was normal to have coins with several different monarchs in your change.

Even after decimalisation, old shillings were used as 5ps and so on for years.

GimmeeMoore · 13/01/2017 21:24

If queen pegs it Radio Scotland will manage an hour before an extended off the ball

Libbyblue · 13/01/2017 21:26

Well his dads not doing too badly either!

blaeberry · 13/01/2017 21:26

I very much doubt Charles will abdicate; he has spent all his life waiting to become king.

The Duchy of Cornwall isn't 'his' either - it belongs to the heir to the throne and provide the heir with an income. So it will go to William when Charles takes the throne.

DanGleballs · 13/01/2017 21:26

Charles will not abdicate. His whole life has been geared to him being King. Also he will want William to have some freedom whilst George and Charlotte are young. There is actually quite a lot of work to do being King. Charles lost a big part of his mother when she became Queen. Her primary responsibility was to the state not him. He won't want that for his grandchildren.

SeaRabbit · 13/01/2017 21:26

From that business insider article:
For at least 12 days — between her passing, the funeral and beyond — Britain will grind to a halt.
My mother told me how awful it was when Geo. VI died. There was nothing on the radio and the cinemas were all closed. She was not a republican but the mourning insisted upon was overkill, and counterproductive.

I don't actually think that when Queenie dies it will make much difference to the lives of most people. this time round, if they close stuff down, at least those of us to whom it will mean almost nothing will be able to get on with life thanks to Netflix and working from home.

BalloonSlayer · 13/01/2017 21:26

I thought the Queen mum and George VI were buried in the chapel at Windsor. There is a memorial to them there at least. I have a vague memory of princess Margaret being included but that may be wrong.

I guess QCs will change to KCs. It'll seem odd singing God Save The King.

I feel quite scared and disturbed at the thought of the Queen dying.

Manumission · 13/01/2017 21:29

That will feel very retrograde won't it?
