What happens when the queen dies?

I know that. Harley's becomes king etc but what happens to the others? Will they be left money/homes/? Do they inherit anything? Is the queen allowed to leave them royal 'stuff'?

Might be a bit random but I just thought of it Grin

I think its funny that Charles is going to be George VII not Charles III. The never use there first names as king.

Edward VIII was David and George VI was Bertie.

Calling Charles George will be strange.

luckylucky24 · 13/01/2017 20:38

We have a party in the dim and distant hope that we're one step closer to getting rid of the monarchy?

Why would you want to get rid of it?
What other reason is there for tourists to come to England? The weather?

littleoysterslittleoysters · 13/01/2017 20:39

They and their!!! I'm tired!

Suttonmum1 · 13/01/2017 20:41

Perhaps there'll be even more tourists when they can actually stay in Buckingham Palace.

HalfaFishFingerAndTwoPeas · 13/01/2017 20:42

There will be 1346786 mumsnet threads titled 'the queen has died'

nancy75 · 13/01/2017 20:42

What? Charlie is going to be called George Confused but isn't Williams son called George?

TrustySnail · 13/01/2017 20:44

Calling Charles George will be strange.

If it happens, I can't see that it will 'stick' with the public. He's been Charles for too long. Personally, I think it would be a pointless gesture - it won't undo the fact that Charles I was executed and Charles II was a notorious womaniser.

OneWithTheForce · 13/01/2017 20:44

Is Elizabeth the queens proper name or is it one she took in for her reign?

backinthebox · 13/01/2017 20:45

Great article here

nancy75 · 13/01/2017 20:45

When did it get announced that he would call himself George?

TheWoodlander · 13/01/2017 20:46

Have you seen the Crown? There's a bit in it when Queen Mary (King George's mother) is lying on her sick bed, and says to a servant "close the window, they're rehearsing my Funeral out there".

Everything will be dealt with according to absolute royal protocol. Rehearsed and planned to the very last detail. I reckon she's got a good 10 years left yet though - her mother lived to 102.

TheWoodlander · 13/01/2017 20:46

Elizabeth is the Queen's real name.

TrustySnail · 13/01/2017 20:46

Nancy from memory, George is one of his middle names - Charles Phillip Arthur George, I think? There was a story about him instructing one of his girlfriends (in his young bachelor days) to call him "Arthur" in bed.

nancy75 · 13/01/2017 20:48

But if Wills knew his dad would be king George why didn't they give the little boy a different name?

nancy75 · 13/01/2017 20:49

And bleurgh, I don't want to think of being in bed with him, no matter what he calls himself!!

atheistmantis · 13/01/2017 20:49

The Smiths will go to number 1.

littleoysterslittleoysters · 13/01/2017 20:49

nancy75

I read an article about it years ago. He picked it to honour his GF.

OneWithTheForce · 13/01/2017 20:50

Elizabeth is the Queen's real name

Thanks thewoodlander

littleoysterslittleoysters · 13/01/2017 20:51

George will be called something else when king.

It not that weird. DS is named after his GF

nancy75 · 13/01/2017 20:52

It's a bit weird to give him a name that he will have to change, if they knew Charles would become George they could have called him something else and just let him become king real name

EdithWeston · 13/01/2017 20:53

Charles' regal name hasn't been announced.

There have been denials of the rumour he would choose George - this article is over a decade old, but is a good account of the name issues

In Royal eyes, continuity is a good thing! The first 4 Georges were all in direct succession.

60sname · 13/01/2017 20:54

What? Charlie is going to be called George confused but isn't Williams son called George?

That's fine, they can just call them Big George and Little George Grin

bibbitybobbityyhat · 13/01/2017 20:54

To take the question seriously for a moment.

I imagine all the news outlets have black ties on hand for the male news presenters to put on when they interrupt whatever broadcast it is to break the news? I think some were in trouble for not wearing them when Diana died (or perhaps I'm imaging that).

I guess there will be hugely extended news bulletins on BBC and ITV on the day, with all other programming being bumped off to the sidelines.

Then there will be a national day of mourning (most people off work) and then a huge funeral (most off work again) and then everyone will have yet another day off work when Charles gets on the throne, although that will not necessarily be really quick. I think HRH's coronation was about a year after her father died and she actually became Monarch?

chocolateworshipper · 13/01/2017 20:55

When did it get announced that he would call himself George?

At 20.38 on mumsnet
