LostCats · 24/10/2024 13:53

Oh Grumpy I am so sorry. Sending Basil very very best wishes from all in the Lost house 🐾

YesItsMeIDontCare · 24/10/2024 13:57

Sending you all love Grumpy. Fingers and paws are crossed for you in Chez Leroy (((hugs))) x

AnneKipankitoo · 24/10/2024 14:05

Love to you all @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats . Expensive bill.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 24/10/2024 14:07

Many thanks all for your thoughts.
He's being operated on today so will update later. All being well we're likely to have him back on Saturday.

RumNotRun · 24/10/2024 15:11

Sending you all love and hugs, especially Basil.

Oh and yes, I meant UTIs 😳 I always say the wrong one when I'm talking about Ali.

HouseofHolbein · 24/10/2024 15:41

Oh poor Basil! Thinking about you all @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats x

Hope the others aren't too sad about him not being there 😢 mine nope when one is missing which is sad

Pudmyboy · 24/10/2024 15:43

Hope all goes well with the surgery and he makes a swift recovery, looking forward to hear how you are being driven mad by his protests at being on cage rest 🐾

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 24/10/2024 16:08

Oh gosh, poor Basil. Sending good thoughts and head boops.

Els1e · 24/10/2024 16:30

I think Basil will deserve one of the comfy beds in his cage. The others will be envious of course. Hope all goes well and he makes a good recovery.

rivermum · 24/10/2024 18:15

Wishing Basil and the rest of the Grumpy household all the best from a cat-less lurker on these threads. I hope he's comfortable and home soon.

coastergirl · 24/10/2024 19:43

Ah I'm sorry to hear about Basil being poorly. Hope surgery has gone smoothly.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 24/10/2024 19:54

So - the vet from the vet hospital phoned earlier. The joys of a second opinion...
He's done another scan and can't see anything except 'sand' in Basil's bladder. So he's being 'flushed' again and then kept on a catheter in the hope that this will sort things without an op.
He's going to kept in for at least one night so they can monitor progress.
Keeping fingers crossed.

Allergictoironing · 24/10/2024 20:03

Fingers, toes & kitty tails all crossed here for Basil.

I feel so very cruel right now. For 2 reasons - both cats have put on weight especially the somewhat rotund Tobias, and I need to ensure he eats all his wet food for the probiotic powder - they are on a diet.

This means the usual 1 x 100g pouch in the morning shared between 2 bowls, and the usual 1 x 85g pouch in the evenings, again shared. But the difference is the dry; instead of them having dry down ad lib they are getting about 40g ish when I leave for work & the same when I go to bed, roughly alternating with the Hills Biome and the RC satiety. They usually get through around 120-150g a day dry.

So I just had to put up with 2 pairs of eyes drilling into the back of my chair since about 3/4 of an hour before supper time, and pathetic little cries of starvation coming from behind me.

KeziaOAP · 24/10/2024 20:07

That sounds optimistic Grumpy let's hope flushing gets rid of 'sand'.
Wishing Basil, you and Mrs G a peaceful night.

KeziaOAP · 24/10/2024 20:19

Allergictoironing yes it feels mean restricting food. One off mine was 6.5 kg, was put on strict diet sharing pouches very little dry food ( according to Vet dry food is the culprit for overweight), 18 months later she's down to 4 kg, being treated for renal problem but more playful /active.

Pixiedust1234 · 24/10/2024 20:30

(according to Vet dry food is the culprit for overweight),
Is that dried food in general or the specific brand you were on? The stray is getting quite overweight and is choosing dry over wet 😯

TheShellBeach · 24/10/2024 20:34

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats that update about Basil sounds cautiously hopeful.

I'll carry on praying for him. Poor fellow, having to stay in overnight - have the others noticed his absence?

Although Sybil looks a bit stressed NOT

Was on Bifensis hairball now on Royal Canin dry renal recommended by Vet in small amounts +wet food. She's a greedy cat and will push her 'brother ' out of the way so he gets fed on the utility work top!

Pixiedust1234 · 24/10/2024 20:47

Thank you. Madam is on Bifensas too.

Grumpy's "hat" looks very content but I'm surprised she's willingly given up her new bed - or has she been evicted?

TheShellBeach · 24/10/2024 20:48

We've started to feed Linney on the table, so that Gizmo can't nick his food while he's eating.

Gizmo is still fairly useless in the jumping department, so Linney is safe high up.

Gizmo has had a version of Yu Move for a week now. It's got the same ingredients but it's much cheaper, and the vet approved when we showed her.

It hasn't improved his ability to jump yet, though. Time will tell.

Sybil treats her new bed and Mrs G's lap as interchangeable. Nobody else dares to use her bed 😁.

Pixiedust1234 · 24/10/2024 20:55

Good girl!!! 😂
