Aw - poor Suzy has lost a fang!

This is the only picture I could get.

The vet suggested I get a urine sample by swapping the tray for the sieve in the kitty litter box. The urine would pour through the sieve and be collected in the tray to be poured into a suitable container. Only works if you’ve got a sifting cat tray.
Regardless, I was not enthused.

How is she?

RumNotRun · 22/10/2024 13:20

Poor Basil and Suzy. My cat Alizè had UTIs and, just like Basil, would still always manage to do a protest wee on the way to the vet.

TheShellBeach · 22/10/2024 13:23

Suzy seems fine. Mr SB, DS2 and I went out for lunch and met Suzy in the car park. When we came home she was sitting on our bin.

Her owner must have noticed! Suzy's fangs are legendary.

Here she is in a photo from a few months ago.

@TheShellBeach poor Suzy- I am sure she will rock the one fang look but hope she is ok

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 22/10/2024 16:19

Well this is a first. Basil and Karl sharing the cat bed.

Wednesday is down to one fang now. Not sure she's noticed yet 🤣🤣 she isn't the brightest tbh

Sybil has one broken fang. Fewer than two complete fangs seems to be becoming a MN cat fashion statement 🤣

To get a urine sample, swap the litter in litter tray for crystals, you can buy them from Amazon or online vets or maybe Petsmart type places.

Also contains a pipette and sealable test tube, so reasonably mess free. I just have to isolate the relevant cat and wait patiently

TheShellBeach · 22/10/2024 18:25

Defiantly, I've tried those crystals with a long succession of cats, who all laughed at them and refused to cooperate.

Well, except Buster, who had a poo on them.

The trouble is our cats are used to plenty of space and about two inches of clumping litter to use. I'm afraid they also mock the crystals.

Well this is a first. Basil and Karl sharing the cat bed.

Have to say, Basil does not look impressed!
When my friend had to collect urine from her cat, the vet recommended a special sort of litter, basically non-absorbent beads, so the wee would drain under it. Think she ended up using an empty litter tray
Why do vets always assume these things are easy- giving pills: no problem, 3x a day; just collect the urine next time they go for a pee......😡
Hope he is okay!

Those are very impressive! Any idea what happened to the missing one?

Same here with my two. When Leanora had problem peeing Vet offered crystals but had tried unsuccessfully before, especially with two cats using same litter tray. Luckily not for Leanora they managed to get sample when she was sedated for scan. Good luck getting a sample.

TheShellBeach · 22/10/2024 18:56

@Pudmyboy No. I don't know Suzy's owner.

She lives next door to Picard.
Maybe he knows a thing or two.

Oh, I know. It's maddening.

I remember one vet telling me to give McVicar 2ml of water every half hour, by holding her and using an oral syringe.

Yeah, right. Like catching McV was even going to be possible every half hour, never mind prising her jaws open, dripping water into her mouth, and ensuring she swallowed it.

FFS.

I realised it's one month today since we brought Kettle home. It's not been the smoothest month as you know, with his ongoing leg wound saga, but all that aside, it's been wonderful getting to know him and seeing him make himself at home.

He's still a little nervous of DH but I think they are slowly coming to an understanding. He is absolutely charming with the rest of us. He's taken to coming to watch the children get ready to leave for school each morning, checking what they're having for breakfast and seeing them out of the door. He's always ready for a head rub and quick to roll over for a tummy tickle, not a lap cat (yet) but loves to snuggle up right next to you. He loves gazing out at the birds eating the rowan berries in the garden and I can't wait until he's healed enough to go out because I think he'll love it.

Here's a picture of him asking for tummy rubs on his very first day. We look forward to many more months with him. I love him to bits already, he's my youngest baby 😄

Back
£144 lighter. Appointment, metacam, injection and a tube for a pee sample.
He managed to pee in his basket on the way so didn't need any immediate intervention thank goodness.
Picture of him exploring while there.

He is very handsome, looks like he knows it too!

Or is that Karl at the back? So many gorgeous black cats it can be hard to keep up!

Good spot. Yes Karl at the back, Basil 'catspreading' at the front.
