I love your cats’ elegant and old-fashioned names, @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats. Do they react like that to real cats?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 02/02/2024 06:53

Cecile our three boys seem to have an uneasy alliance with TC. They have the odd spat but mainly follow a policy of laissez-faire. Sybil's MO however is to chase him off, before running back into the house laughing.
Cedric and Doris belong to a friend and are indoor cats so don't meet other cats.

MrJinks · 02/02/2024 07:32

Great to hear that you've been released back into the wild! 😜 Cecile
Velvet is the best medicine.

Allergictoironing · 02/02/2024 08:06

Good to have you back Cecile.

There's a national shortage of cat microchips apparently, due to the new legislation coming in the summer. So rescues with stricter rules on what must be done before re homing can't let the cats go to their new homes until their vets get more chips in 😥

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 02/02/2024 09:27

Argh, that sounds awful. Aren’t they already over capacity and dealing with huge backlogs? When I volunteered with the Blue Cross they would check out the adoptive homes in person to make sure the home was suitable. Battersea let us have Velvet on the strength of our previous Bengal experience and some photos, they can’t get rid of them quickly enough :(

RumNotRun · 02/02/2024 09:34

@CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau They aren't videos of cats, although obviously you can get those too, they are videos FOR cats, usually of mice, birds, fish etc. As Grumpy said though, they can cause the cat to get overexcited. When my TV was on a stand Toad would often make it wobble when he tried to catch the fish in the videos. That's part of the reason that I've had it put on the wall (sorry Mumsnet, awfully common of me I know!)

YesItsMeIDontCare · 02/02/2024 13:02

YouTube - look for Handsome Nature. Hours of squirrel, bird and chipmunk action.

Here's Leroy watching one...

Not terribly impressed by how today has gone. Had a GP appointment late morning and he sent me for X-rays - local community hospital in the town. Got there, was told up to 1.5 hours wait. Almost 3 hours later I'm finally in for the X-rays! Thank goodness I had the day off as holidays anyway. Girlcat is now sulking because I told her I'd be half an hour at the doctors, and having come back via my DSis's house I was out around 6 hours.

Minor sadness at DSis's house. Everything is prepared for her new kitties, and of course no chips - they were supposed to come home Wednesday. Plus on top of the shortage due to the new law coming in, there's likely to be much longer delays in getting them shipped into the UK now the borders from the EU have been tightened.

Where are her kittens coming from? The lack of chips is frustrating but hopefully it'll be better for cats in the long run.

Allergictoironing · 02/02/2024 18:19

Adult cats, Rolvenden in Kent (where I've got all 3 of mine from). If it drags out for ages & ages, I think she will see if our vets have any & if so see if the rescue will let her take them on the condition they are chipped ASAP

RumNotRun · 02/02/2024 18:35

Fingers crossed for her @Allergic

I have become addicted to Court Cam on the Crime and Investigation channel. The episode I'm watching now has a woman, Ginny Fine, who is in court for allowing her cat to terrorise the neighbourhood 😁 Apparently the cat is a Maine coon bobcat cross according to Ginny, although DNA tests were inconclusive on the Maine coon part. At first I thought the verdict was sad that she had to relinquish Rocky to a zoo, but on reading the article below, she had declawed him 😞

Had to lend Havelock a pouch.

Here he is waiting patiently as his dinner was nearly six seconds late.

NDN got the heat, luckily. I was flailing round trying to choose exactly the right flavour for the undemanding little fluff from six boxes.

That acid attack on the front pages was 2 streets up. Poor girl and her DC were staying at the hotel we do volunteer work with. The perp must have run past my door to make his escape.

When I heard about a local attack on a woman with a pram on Thurs night before it hit the news, my first reaction was I bet it was at one of the council hotels - barely any locals have kids now, unless you’re in social housing or Mrs Elon Musk.

I saw your comments on the thread about the attacks. It must be quite shocking to happen so close to where you volunteer.

I'm lying in bed watching TV on my tablet with Toad and Frankie. The little one just rolled on his back for tummy scritches and decided to make biscuits on his brother at the same time. Frank is in a good mood now after sulking all day cause I took his duvet to wash. He has it back now, I think it took him about 2 milliseconds to jump on the bed and claim it again.

And god help you if you get the wrong flavour. I know the feeling only too well 🙄😂

Supersimkin2 · 03/02/2024 12:09

The offering was accepted! He’s just been in to eat another one out of Prince’s bowl. Then he flicked Prince’s tail and they ran out fighting. Prince very sweet natured. H da Boss. Like Leroy. This is correct.

Sarah Everard vanished three streets up from acid attack. For an awf’y refained area we have our share of incident.

RumNotRun · 03/02/2024 14:43

A friend of mine was murdered on Clapham Common many years ago so in my head (I know very little about London areas) Clapham is scary. Then again I live in a pretty down market area of Cardiff, (although it's described as up and coming. I'm still waiting for it to have arrived!) so I shouldn't be judging anyone else's areas.

In cat related news, Toad and Frankie spent the entire night lying next to each other. This morning they were still being cute and "twinning".

Good news last night, the chips are in so DSis gets her kitties 😀

Tobias will now accept scritches round his jaw and ears while eating, and I managed to touch his toe while he was lying on the arm of the sofa without getting hissed at. Baby steps, baby steps...

MrJinks · 03/02/2024 15:16

A NMF in Downing Street!
Larry just snoozing in the background 😸

That's good news, Allergic.
Looking forward to many pics of them.

I know I keep posting photos of him but I am really enjoying semi-affectionate Frankenstein. He's gently snoring next to me while I watch TV in bed on my tablet. Every so often he rolls onto his back when I stroke him and shows me his belly while he makes air biscuits.
