We were out of space so I thought I'd do the honours

Very sorry to hear the news Allergic. At least he's got a bit of time left for you to treat him even more like royalty than usual.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 28/11/2022 18:23

Sending you love Allergic 💐

Papergirl1968 · 28/11/2022 19:37

I'm so sorry, Allergic.
I know you'll make the most of every previous moment.

Papergirl1968 · 28/11/2022 19:38

Precious not previous...

Supersimkin2 · 28/11/2022 23:32

How horrible for you Allergic. You’ve got time with Boycat and he won’t be in pain, which is so important.

He’s with you and you love each other. And together with Girlcat. Maybe now is not the time to say this as you must be feeling so shocked and raw, but it might be an idea to think about how to make the most of the days ahead.

nettie434 · 29/11/2022 06:42

Very sorry to read the news about Boycat, Allergic. I am sure you and Girlcat will help him have the best quality of life over the during the coming months.

Allergictoironing · 29/11/2022 08:41

Biggest shock is over - I knew it was terminal but thought we had years not months. My ADHD/ex-project management brain has taken over and life is planned. I do know I have to go out to work as soon as I can get another job, whereas Boycat would prefer me to be at home 24/7, but one non-negotiable thing in any job will be taking leave to suit HIS vet checkups.

Vet was very pleased with how he was yesterday and said what a nice change it was someone doing what they were told with a terminal cat to extend his high quality life. I know roughly what stage he will need to be at for me to have him put down, but we're nowhere near that now - he still eats, more importantly drinks well, uses the tray. He's even more cuddly than he used to be, and also more adventurous and vocal - not pain vocal, just demanding, and the actual noisers made confirm our theory that he is part oriental. In fact, he's become in many ways the cat he always had the potential to be!

I need to balance physical quality of life with his mental issues, which will be the hardest bit.

Thank you all for your kind wishes and support.

HouseofHolbein · 29/11/2022 09:34

I'm so sorry @Allergictoironing sending lots of strength to you and girlcat 💕

And if you ever feel the need for some mollys mice please give me a shout. I may have overbought when they were cheap and would be very happy to send a few over to you 💕

Supersimkin2 · 29/11/2022 10:02

That is such a beautiful post Allergic. Of course he’s the cat he’s meant to be - he’s with you, and you give him his real self. He’s purely happy.

Allergictoironing · 29/11/2022 15:05

Quick update - got the urine test results back & a report from the vet.

SDMA results are high stage 3, creatinine results are stage 4.
Blood pressure is fine
Protein/creatinine ratio is normal for a healthy cat (!)
Urine density is "as expected" for stage 3/4
No signs of any infection (yay)

So pretty much as healthy as a cat with renal failure can be! Official diagnosis is "stage 3 to 4 normotensive non proteinuric renal failure"

She's sent me a link with the recommended treatments for cats with CKD at the various stages depending on symptoms. I will NOT be putting him through kidney biopsies, and if he gets to the stage of needing to be tube fed or hydrated I won't put him through that either.

Supersimkin2 · 30/11/2022 10:52

You’re so right. I’ve had (human) family who were tube fed - it’s not fun.

Boycat doesn’t know there’s anything wrong with him, which is a huge advantage.

Cats are going to be sooo happy, tested +ive for Covid last night so housebound at their beck and call for the next few days. Totally asymptomatic - temp fine, no cough etc, just felt a little chilly yesterday evening.

So that means today's and tomorrow's trips to interviews are off, which isn't as bad as it seems, as I've been offered one I interviewed for yesterday anyway 😎

Supersimkin2 · 01/12/2022 13:54

Result!

Prince has a cracked tooth and is at dentist. He’s being treated as a ‘sensitive’ patient by a second dentist.

Allergictoironing · 01/12/2022 14:02

Of course he's being treated as "sensitive", he's such a delicate flower who needs to be cossetted and reassured.

Do you think the damage is a result of the murder attempt?

Supersimkin2 · 01/12/2022 15:42

It has to be😟

Fangs fine beforehand. But vet also delighted cos he had an incredibly lucky escape.

Which is the main thing 😃

Allergictoironing · 02/12/2022 08:22

How did Prince's dentist visit go Lana?

Supersimkin2 · 02/12/2022 09:41

He’s going back in Jan to have it removed.

Wouldn’t eat breakfast, only Dreamies acceptable. Naughty. A one off won’t hurt after the vet yesterday.

Allergictoironing · 02/12/2022 10:07

So - his tooth is hurting so much that he can't eat wet food, only the crunchy treats?!? 😜

Long chat with SiL last night, who lost one of their Burmese many many years ago to CKD. Turns out another cat is now showing very slight early warning signs, but she IS 16 so not unreasonable. Great discussions on renal food, what treatments are available, where to draw lines & call it a day etc and feeling more comfortable with my provisional plans.

Very slight Covid symptoms now for me, so going to do an Amazon Morrisons same day delivery order (thank you Prime) & hibernate for the weekend cat cuddling. Special weekend - they can have their Tuna fillet which is very restricted due to CKD!

RumNotRun · 02/12/2022 12:35

Have you heard anything from the police about the scumbag neighbour?
@Supersimkin2

Frankenstein has been lying next to me every evening for the last week, after months of only sporadic short cuddles. He's off to the vet later so I've got a feeling that afterwards he's going to go back to ignoring me and refusing to sit by me. Bloody cats.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 02/12/2022 12:38

Just look at the state of this cat 🤣

Looking like a typical middle aged man snoozing in an armchair there Yes! Amazon boxes are so useful, I'm surprised they don't have a list of ways to reuse them for environmental brownie points - including cat chairs!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 02/12/2022 13:17

Love that picturem His pipe and glass of whisky are presumably out of shot?
