We were out of space so I thought I'd do the honours

@Allergictoironing
Really sorry to hear the news about Boycat.
Been there with (multiple) previous cats. Fingers crossed the vet can do something to improve his kidney function. 💐

Allergictoironing · 02/11/2022 12:33

We'll see just how bad it is next week, when we get the full bloods back, but I get the feeling the vets isn't terribly hopeful.

LostCats · 02/11/2022 12:35

Oh Allergic I am so desperately desperately sorry. Crossing everything for you. As are Boone and Eko xxxx

Supersimkin2 · 02/11/2022 14:01

Oh Allergic, megasympathies to you all.

Defiantlynot41 · 02/11/2022 14:58

Oh @Allergictoironing so sorry and keeping all our paws crossed the vet can do something that will help

YesItsMeIDontCare · 02/11/2022 15:08

Sending you love and strength Allergic 💐

HouseofHolbein · 02/11/2022 16:16

Oh @Allergictoironing sending lots of love to you and to Boycat 💕

nettie434 · 02/11/2022 18:59

Adding my best wishes to you and Boycat, Allergic. And Girlcat too.

Papergirl1968 · 02/11/2022 19:12

Thinking of you, Allergic. What a worry.
How did the interview go?

Allergictoironing · 02/11/2022 19:23

I was obviously looking not quite happy in the interview, as the interviewer asked me if I was OK. Cue crying in front of her - not ideal. She WAS sympathetic, but I doubt I showed at my best!

Papergirl1968 · 02/11/2022 19:27

Aww, bless you. You're only human and at least she'll remember you. I'd give you the job if it was me.

TheLongRider · 02/11/2022 23:39

I hope everything goes better than expected with Boycat and the interview results Allergic.

coastergirl · 03/11/2022 06:21

Sorry to hear your news Allergic. Hoping it's better than you think.

Well the fireworks are off 🙄

Leroy does not care and is watching SquirrelHub on TV.

Supersimkin2 · 04/11/2022 19:54

Prince had double dinner for his nerves. I’m realising I’ve got to eat a variety of knobbly squashes, bizarre looking, that I’ve merely used as home decor to date.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 05/11/2022 09:28

Thought I'd share this. Saw this today and it made me snigger.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 05/11/2022 09:54

I'm currently sitting at the kitchen table trying to drink a coffee. Sybil has just run up my back and decided to have a kip on my shoulder (with much purring and pacing). They do pick their moments...

Ollie is on the bed. Paws wanted to sleep there so he's just sat in the hallway looking lost

Oh poor Paws! He has such an appealing face!

Supersimkin2 · 05/11/2022 14:01

They’re wedging down for the day. Prince had a fight at 830am and went back to bed, all muddy paw prints and tufts of fur. Double brekker obv.

He’s flat out purring.

Allergictoironing · 05/11/2022 14:49

My credit card is in pain. Just ordered 2 flavours of Hills renal dry food 3kg each, and 48 pouches Royal Canin pate style renal wet food - just over £100.

Spoke to the vets today. Looks like Boycat's kidney failure is not early stage, so we're probably looking anything up to 3-4 years max. He needs to go and get his blood pressure done (how DO they do that for cats???) and a urine sample extracted in a few weeks, and that will be a regular thing I gather.

Can't do the urine sample at home, as they share the same litter tray - they do HAVE 2, just that they will only use the one by the french doors, I can't even move it more than a couple of feet or they hang on until it's been moved back. Plus they object to weeing on anything apart from wood pellets, so the chances of getting "terrified of anything unfamiliar" Boycat to wee on the special stuff they supply when you collect urine samples is almost zero - I'd probably have to separate them for days to accomplish that!

We should have a better idea of how far gone he is after a couple of BP & urine checks, so just in time for Christmas.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 05/11/2022 14:52

We have a new NMC on the block! Ginger tabby & white, long legs (although that might just be compared to Leroy's appearance of having short legs - fluffiness makes his legs look shorter), likes our Catnip plant.

Currently known as Leggy.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 05/11/2022 14:57

X-post with you there Allergic, sending love to you.

They take blood pressure with same as humans but with a teeny little cuff. I think they can do it "higher tech", but every vet I've seen has preferred the cuff.

Supersimkin2 · 05/11/2022 17:47

Hello Leggy! Sounds a bit like little Prince. Leroy has a long body, not short legs, I might suggest.

Not bad considering Allergic. Ouch for the card but so worth it.

Allergictoironing · 05/11/2022 18:05

Last order I did, not long ago because it was "ordinary" kibble, I got 10kg Royal Canin Indoor for the same as the 6kg of the Hills renal - the Royal Canin renal is around the same price as the Hills or slightly more.

The renal wet is well over twice the price of their usual Sheba Fine Flakes for the same amount. And of course with sharing grazers both cats will be on the v expensive stuff as the only way to get Boycat eating enough now is food down 24/7.

As I said above, we should get a better idea of his progress either way once we have a couple of BP and urine tests plus weighing done. Though with nearly a kg in 6 months lost I'm rather scared about that.
