Hi, I would like to rehome my 4 year old male tabby .. what is the kindest way of doing this?

I would like to avoid a shelter, I do t have any friends or family who can take him.

Any advice?

Thanks

@EmmaMY

It doesn’t make you a horrible person.

No what makes you a horrible person is putting a perfectly healthy cat to sleep because it's no longer convenient for you

Want2beme · 16/04/2020 10:42

EmmaMY it is not ok to put an animal down because you aren't able to deal with it's behaviour. There has to be an alternative to this. Contact a rehoming organisation to help you find a new home for your cat. They may also be able to help your cat with it's behaviour. The poor thing isn't happy living with you, but that doesn't mean it won't find a happy life somewhere else.

@Remmy123

How has it gone with the MNer?

There ARE lots of lovely MNers & it USED to be a place where help was regularly given to each other. Yes, actually in person! Sadly the site has hit too big now for it to happen so often, but it still does sometimes.

If I lived somewhere suitable to have a cat I'd have offered to have your boy. Sadly I live on a road that appears to be a cat/cat meeting point 😿

I hope you asked MNHQ if they were able to help you check out the person who offered to have your boy.

People pulling the OP apart need to bloidy stop it, do you really think it helps any animals to do what you did. Someone asking for advice if how best to rehome an animal - you have an opportunity to help that animal not end up on FB or Gumtree etc.

I agree it's sad when an animal gets rehomed , but your nasty attitudes puts animals lives in danger, you don't help.

AmelieTaylor · 16/04/2020 11:16

@EmmaMY

Oh no, don't have her PTS.

Your cat is exactly the sort my mum would give a home to. One that needs a peaceful home, lovely garden, comfy chairs, sunny spots in summer, heater in the winter. Spoilt rotten with food and a fabulous vet on hand

Unfortunately she doesn't live in the uk, but there are people who want to give homes to cats like yours.

I wish I could, but like I said, my place is not suitable for a cat. 😿

EmmaMY · 16/04/2020 13:01

I will of course contact a re-homing organisation first, and ask them what the prospects are of finding her another home... fingers crossed.

I’m amazed that people on her can be so mean... Why do you all assume that we are horrible people... what would you say if your best friend came to you with this dilemma? Please answer questions respectfully and without judgement.

Kat1995 · 30/07/2022 12:30

I know this is a couple of years old, but it’s disgusting how this person is getting grief for wanting to do what is best for her cat and her. I myself am in this situation and it’s disgusting how someone is having a go at this person. It’s so heartbreaking to be in this situation enough without having the grief!! I recently have gotten really allergic to my cat and no longer can keep him. But I have to do what’s best for my cat and me. Stop making people feel bad!! It’s hard enough giving up a cat that you care about. Maybe at the time, the person thought she could bond. People nowadays are horrible and nasty. She’s obviously come on here for support and a couple of you have give her so much grief for giving up a cat!!

Remmy123 · 30/07/2022 13:57

Well I have a happy ending - he was rehomed someone on mumsnet.. a truly lovely lady who very kindly sends me photos and updates on him even now and I really appreciate it - he is much tamer and probably happier as he was scared of my loud boys! 🥰🥰

Excellent news. 😃

Kat1995 · 30/07/2022 23:12

Aww I’m so happy he was! I had to comment, even if it was over two years old. I never comment and always don’t bother with it as it isn’t worth it. But this I can relate to and I was so shocked at the negative response, but at least he’s settled now and you feel more at ease ❤️❤️

SiliconHeaven · 14/08/2022 20:32

I just noticed this thread has been posted on again ♥️ Here he is, I love him and he loves me (though obviously at the moment it’s my fault he’s too hot)

Hi there I've been trying to get my cat kitty rehomed but do I if she has out breaks of hurting me and my partner and other cat the attack from her has made me scared of her now she hurt me went hospital and have bad infection and my partner is diabetes and it happened 4days ago and also my other cat is scared of her we had been advised to separate them but they still can't be in the same room as it get heated and it aint fair if shes got to stay in a room but what can i do ...I do very much care for both of my cats that's why I think it best to rehome the one that keeps scaring us and fact is I think she don't like other cats or kids as we rehomed kitty as she was badly treated by the person I got her from also had kids I'd post pic of what she's done but I don't think anyone would like it

Bearink35 · 02/01/2023 03:33

She's not very socialable she like her own space which we gladly give her but I think she best of with someone who understands cats clearly I don't but I've had her 5years n now she's turn funny I don't think she got an illness I just think she hate my other cat

Wolfiefan · 02/01/2023 15:46

@Bearink35 this is not the place to rehome an animal. Back to breeder or rescue. First you get a vet check.

@Bearink35

Looking at your cat , does she have Bengal in the mix ?
If so that might explain some of her behaviour (loads of threads on Bengals )

That cat does look worryingly familiar...

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/01/2023 17:44

I had a bengal, she might have a bit of bengal in her which is fine if you get the love-bug side of them but she's got the i hate all other cats and i'm going to kill them side by the sounds of her.

She probably does need an expierienced owner and to be the only cat. My cats an only girl at heart but she's a moggy, she's not up for fights the way the bengal was.

verdantverdure · 02/01/2023 19:16

In the U.K. you can do a direct homing via Cat's Protection where he stays with you while they advertise him then goes straight to his new home, and is never in a shelter.

Bestcatmum · 03/01/2023 13:16

Please DONT advertise him online, cats like this are picked up for dog fights and end up torn to pieces, the only safe option is a shelter where they will be rehomed safely.

Bearink35 · 03/01/2023 18:07

It's fine got someone helping me now thank god I done it tho cat squad which r very helpful

It’s not the same cat as the OPs, the new poster added her cat to the thread rather than creating her own to ask for advice.
