I'm in agony after losing our boy 2.5 weeks ago. I had another thread deleted as it was too outing but realised quickly there's many of us suffering. Anyone want to join hands?

Horrid horrid evenings. Don't know why it's hitting this week it just is. Had our dog pts in August but really missing him at the moment

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 19/01/2024 00:01

This is a horrid season where everyone feels awful. Things like grief will hit harder and don’t blame yourself for that.

SheerLucks · 19/01/2024 00:44

He probably went to sleep with adoration for you in his heart and that's the best feeling.

My two are still young, but I'm going to remember this...

capabilityfrowns · 19/01/2024 01:47

Cecile - absolutely! It's the loss
Of my protector - he was my big bear and nothing would ever hurt me while he was here . He wouldn't let anything or anyone hurt me . And he was formidable!
I'm sure my little fella would try but he's pint sized and not much of a threat bless him .

I'm so torn about getting another shepherd.....I just don't want to sully my big bears memory because he was so special. But I love having a dog that guards . That said my big bear was really one in a million for his temperament and his obedience. I'm not sure any other dog would live up to him . I'm just trying to look after my little guy but he used to just big bear as a bed ! He would sleep on him . He was such a gentle soul - I've got amazing videos when my little man was a tiny tiny puppy and my big old bear nannied him - he would get a toy and gently drop it in front of him and when he picked it up would so so
Gently take the other end and play with him so sweetly and so gently - he really was such a gentle soul for such a big dog - he melted my heart how he played with his new puppy. I miss him so much . Such a sweet sweet boy , so big but so gentle . I miss his enormous presence in the house . He was so vocal - he used to communicate all the time . I miss that .

Hi everyone are you all well tonight

sami8888 · 19/01/2024 01:56

capabilityfrowns · 19/01/2024 01:56

Helplessandheartbroke · 18/01/2024 23:45

@capabilityfrowns youre absolutely right. I resonate with the ashes. Still in the box on top of my shelves... youre being extremely strong! Good on you! Glad you've got the younger boy for company I do also know what you mean about the security too. When dh was working nights I always felt so safe with my boy downstairs. No intruder would stand a chance! Guess I'll try and get some sleep. Tomorrow's a new day!

You're doing really well .

I think if I was get another- I'd look at rescue now rather than breeders .

My little fella is an accidental mongrel and he's the spit of his Scottie mum .

He cost me the price
Of a
Microchip and vaccines! And he's lovely .
He looks exactly like a scottie .

I think when my heart is healed , I might look into rescues .

sami8888 · 19/01/2024 02:03

sorry i am just reading this thread topic are you all discussing loosing beloved pets

capabilityfrowns · 19/01/2024 02:06

Yeah . We've lost our gorgeous pets . It's devastating.

I lost my enormous long haired German Shepard in December so he's left quite a hole . I've a little
Scottie cross who's missing him terribly . As am I .

Have you lost a furry family member?

sami8888 · 19/01/2024 02:06

why not i think we sometimes owe it to ourselves to indulge ourselves occasionally a few glasses of sherry at this time feels like the most relaxing i can sometimes feel, hope i dont come across as an a heavy drinker

Nah darling you don't come across as a heavy drinker 😂

Few sherry's is fine . I've had a few white wines . Helps me sleep eventually!

sami8888 · 19/01/2024 02:11

i am so sorry to hear about your loss my heart does out to you, i believe in the Irish tradition of celebrating a life so i hope you dont mind if my next sip of sherry is to celebrate and toast your beloved pet life. i have never had a pet but how are you coping

capabilityfrowns · 19/01/2024 02:14

That's fine by me

I'm coping . Lost my boy early December so just trying to move forward. We all know our pets dont live forever. Just no one tells you how hard it is when they do go !

sami8888 · 19/01/2024 02:16

would you consider a tattoo of your beloved

capabilityfrowns · 19/01/2024 02:21

I would - if I could find someone to do it justice . I have a few tats !

Helplessandheartbroke · 19/01/2024 03:12

Joining the wide awake club! Ds has been up for a couple of hours and no sign of going back to sleep yet! I'm so tired and drained. This definitely makes grieving harder!

@barkymcbark hope you're ok! It's so hard isn't it!

@sami8888 hope you enjoyed your sherry!

@capabilityfrowns hope you got some sleep!

@CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau love how you compared your bf to a dog and it worked haha!

OP posts:
CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 19/01/2024 09:52

Well, to be fair to me I compared BOTH of us to dogs lol. I would even say I’m more doglike in nature. It does help that we both regularly compare him to a different big, fluffy and normally cheerful animal (too outing to specify) whereas I’m more of the Labrador type jumping up with joy when he arrives -or in fact any of my friends - and when I’m doing better leaping into things with enthusiasm and clumsiness. But I digress. Hope everyone is having a not-too-bad day and hugs to you all.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 19/01/2024 10:19

Also - taking a huge breath here because I’ve taken flak for it before - I’ve previously been a heavy drinker for a brief while. I believe in reducing stigma so I’m always happy to come out with it albeit a bit cautious after a few nasty encounters with the internet. But for context, I come from a family of drinkers and among them my mother has sent unprovoked expletive-filled emails to her MIL, my aunt has stripped and self-harmed in front of hotel security and my grandad’s just been mildly drunk since about 2002. My mother has also basically physically forced wine on me during an argument about me being sad on a family holiday following which I went and made a serious suicide attempt and also persuaded me to drink prosecco after being released from hospital for alcohol poisoning. I’ve done myself a lot of harm and had to be escorted home after quietly crying at some parties but while I was drinking didn’t go around harming others beyond that. Some of the nicest people I’ve ever met were on the addiction wing of the psych ward while I was on general - I’m generally sober now apart from the odd toast etc - and the term alcoholic really feels like a stain that doesn’t come off.
Sorry OP, I know this is completely unrelated and please don’t let it derail your thread! But my response to how is your day, if it were longer and more detailed, could include “got shamed for past alcohol issues” every day and I really get upset and hopeless about the stigma. I will never shame anyone for it on its own.

Rant over. Back to pet grief. Sorry everyone.

Helplessandheartbroke · 19/01/2024 10:54

@CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau that's a lot to deal with and thank you for sharing! I think most of us have been in the 'drank too much' camp at some point in our lives. This doesn't make us all recovering alcoholics. Even if it did, seeing the error of our ways and learning from bad experiences is all part of life. Give yourself a break. Weve all done things we wish we could change but it helps shape us and our future.

I'm having another really shit day. Lack of sleep and having issues regarding ds school placement isn't helping but I'm also working downstairs today for the first time in weeks and it's so much harder without my boy there!
