I love dogs. I have two. Currently have chihuahuas but I’ve had a jack Russel in the past.

I’ve been around plenty of dogs. I used to work in a rescue kennel, and after all this, there are still two breeds im really not keen on

Yorkshire terriers. I find they have a very pungent smell. Every one I’ve met have the same sort of smell and it’s very off putting.

English bull terriers. It’s the head. I really don’t like the head!

I love staffies, rotties, dobermans and a lot of other breeds, but those two really do bother me. I’m also not particularly keen on westies either but I think that’s because my MIL had two and they were horrible little shits.

The only dog breed I'm scared of and therefore now hate is big bully breeds. Nearly had a run in with one a few months ago. It saw my happy go lucky retriever on the other side of a busy main road and started the most ferocious barking. Fortunately all my dog did was growl. I really thought I would need to enact the doomsday protocol. I sent my daughter over the wall of the random garden but fortunately a bus went past and in that time I was able to trot on calmly with fluffpup on my side. Fluffpup did lots of shaking it off but was ok. The poor girls handling the dog were dragged a bit onto the road but they were ok. We heard it snarling for the longest time afterwards.

Not keen on labradoodles. The ones I know (with owners that have had dogs all their lives) are too unpredictable for me.

crossstitchingnana · 17/04/2023 11:58

Don't like;

Anything deformed (dachshund, corgi, French bulldog, bulldogs etc)

Anything bred to fight (Staffys (HATE Staffys), Akita, Chow dogs etc

Anything bred to guard (German Shepherds, Doberman, Rottweiler etc)

Giants (Great Danes etc)

Anything with a low life expectancy (Frenchies only live for 4-5 years)

Oh and extra large bullies. Irresponsible.

I like poodles, doodles, goldens, labs and a spaniel at a push.

Oh is she a Schipperke? They havent been mentioned yet. Lovely dogs.

Agree with docking. There's no need.

No, she's a Patterdale. Like JRs but with extra neuroses.

DogLover22 · 17/04/2023 13:02

Not a fan of pugs, Frenchie's and any other flat faced dogs.

Think it's horrible and cruel when you hear them struggling to breathe

I agree this thread is heartbreaking. The language used is really upsetting from so called dog lovers

Yes, will no one think of all the devastated chihuahuas who may be reading this?

pookiedoodlepuppy · 17/04/2023 14:25

Snoopystick · 17/04/2023 09:55

Some of the comments from here from people who would probably call themselves dog lovers ☹️

I don't truly believe anyone on this thread hates a dog ,just that traits of specific breeds is not their thing , or their experiences with that breed are negative .
Dogs are definitely my thing, even though I have likes and dislikes , I would give them all a scratch behind the ears .. except maybe a Jack Russell 'cos I like my fingers ..😉

Orangebadger · 17/04/2023 14:31

I love dogs regardless of breed. The problems with over breeding and health problems don't make me dislike the breed, but I would never own one. Such as frenchies and pugs. But have met plenty of lovely Frenchies and pugs. Would never own a springer or King Charles. Again dogs, too many health risks that I have seen first hand. But am very fond of many Spaniels. Same for dachys with their backs, doodle breeds, mainly due to the the unknown temperament.

I don't like that people breed flat faced dogs though the dogs themselves are often nice.

Not a fan of "scary" breeds eg XL bullies.

Not into tiny yappers.

Don't like dirty beards, butts & under eye area.

I think greyhounds are totally devoid of personality and not cute either.

waterlego · 17/04/2023 17:13

DrMeredithGrey2023 · 17/04/2023 10:19

Surely, when it comes to this thread, 'don't like' translates to more 'not my favourite, wouldn't choose to own one' rather than 'I hate these dogs, I wish them harm and would kick one as soon as look at one'

Labs aren't my favourite, I would still show them some love if I came across one on a walk. I wouldn't walk past an injured collie lying in a ditch just because I don't get a good vibe from them.

It's really not that deep.

Exactly this!

It’a not wrong to have a preferred aesthetic/temperament in a dog. Doesn’t mean I hate the others or wish them harm; just that I wouldn’t choose to own one myself.

I pet almost any dog, unless it’s got long drips of drool hanging from its mouth. I will still smile at it and call it a good boy/girl but I just don’t want dog saliva on me. I would also hesitate to pet a dog whose fur is very smelly. I pet most dogs though, even the ones I think are ugly 🙂

shrunkenhead · 17/04/2023 17:37

Rottweilers
Doberman
"Bully" breeds
Mastiffs
Pitbulls
"Staffies"
Any bull terrier breed
Dogs that look like they've run into a wall - pugs, French bulldogs etc
Bulldogs
Boxers
Old lady dogs/handbag dogs
Yappy snappy little dogs
Collies can be a bit unpredictable
Huskies
Akitas

Schnauzers and shitzus. Thick as mince.

Not sure why you think Schnauzers are stupid, they are a very intelligent breed Confused

ilovesushi · 17/04/2023 22:22

Don't love teeny tiny breeds. I saw two possibly chihuahuas the other day who looked like little mice in their harnesses. I would be worried about them being stepped on. Not sure what kind of a walk you'd get with them.

vivainsomnia · 18/04/2023 15:46

I don't dislike any dog and certainly not any particular breeds. Although they of course have traits, they don't all confirm to them. My MIL has a Yorkie that smells lovely and is not happy at all.

What I can say is I much prefer dogs with strong personalities and intelligence. Stupid dogs don't do much for me. I like dogs I can really communicate with and respond in their in ways. My MIL Yorkie is incredibly bright and so much fun. I didn't expect it from a small dog, but their level of understanding is quite amazing.

Easier to just say you don't like dogs isn't it? 😂

I love all dogs but wouldn't want to own any "small" dogs like pugs, Jack Russells, daschunds. Not keen on poodles so anything cross like a cockapoo would be out as well. Akitas, Shar Pei's and English Bull Terriers are ugly in my eyes.

Newpeep · 19/04/2023 13:59

From a dog training POV
Anything crossed with a poodle. Just get a poodle. Really nice dogs.
Lurchers can be challenging but depends on the mix

Looks wise I am not keen on bullbreeds but recognise they are generally wonderful temperaments.

Greyhounds are too lazy for me but again wonderful temperaments - such gentle souls (that's ex racers - non racers are bonkers)

Anything flat faced. It's just cruel.

Spaniels I think you are either a spaniel person or you are not. I'm not.

I am a terrier fan. Wonderful, fun, hardy dogs who are easy to train if you understand them and great in a family home as they tend to be fairly laid back but also up for fun on demand.

ImAGoodPerson · 20/04/2023 20:22

I have 2 of the breeds mentioned on here a few times, they have lovely personalities and would probably own both breeds again if I got another dog at some point. 1 I would only get a rescue of, the other I would only get from a puppy.

One breed I am not keen on are Dalmatians, the only ones i have met have been unpredictable and aggressive. I have no idea if this is usual for the breed though.

Lordofmyflies · 20/04/2023 20:41

I don't like labs. Tend to be greedy, smelly and mouthy. The only dog that ever bit me was a lab who tried to grab a sandwich out of DC hand when we were having a picnic.
Also not keen on Cockerpoos. 9/10 if there's a yappy dog in a beer garden or cafe, its an impatient cockerpoo.

LT2 · 20/04/2023 20:56

Any breeds that have been cruelly bred to breathe uncomfortably, ie pugs, bulldogs. Humans are selfish.

LT2 · 20/04/2023 21:01

@ImAGoodPerson i was brought up with (from age 4 to 19) 2 female dalmatians and they were such softies! So cuddly and sweet. Wouldn't hurt a fly. I still miss those girls!

Ramunea · 20/04/2023 21:03

Greyhounds are ugly in my opinion

I think I am scarred a bit as I saw one kill my best friends yorkie when we were at the park and we were 6/7 so it stayed with me and the 2 I have met since have been quite aggressive, one went for my much bigger dog. I don't have a big sample to go on to he fair and any breed can be aggressive if not trained or treated correctly of course.

LT2 · 20/04/2023 21:08

@ImAGoodPerson 😬
And then there's my one.. the younger if the two.. she used to get chased by a nasty border terrier and she'd just run off scared😅
