The foghorn is sounding frequently and I suspect that's why I'm up enjoying the ambience of a foggy garden at 4am.

Hoping @BaconandAvocado is fast asleep and all the others with wide awake pups.

My pup asleep but my son and his friend who has slept over are awake! And I'm contemplating going out for petrol as I have absolutely none and don't want to miss my first puppy training class tonight!
Really hoping bacon's had a good night!

juneybean · 26/09/2021 06:50

We've brought dear pup on his first caravan holiday and were concerned about pooing as he had never pooed on his leash! But he finally managed one at 11pm on the first night. The wee sweetie is also waking up at 5.20 instead of 4am, giving mam a lie in Grin

Thanks for the new thread Makeme

Hi all. Can I join? We've had our little parson russell for two weeks now. He is10.5 weeks old and is just begining to morph from a sweet and tiny baby to a whirl of terrier enthusiasms, including digging, which our previous PR wasn't into at all.

He is keeping us on our toes for sure. Yesterday he explored the fishpond so determinedly that he fell in. He swam instinctively for a second or two before I hoiked him out and didn't seem phased by the experience.

I think he is definitely going to be a dog who needs to be given plenty of challenging and rewarding activities to keep jhim out of trouble. He came from a flyballing family, so one thing I will be looking into when he is old enough is going along to a flyball group.

Any other PR (or other working-type terrier) owners out there?

Aria20 · 26/09/2021 07:51

Thanks for the new thread

Aria20 · 26/09/2021 08:03

@Random789 I was looking into flyball and agility last night as I think my spaniel would love something like that.... annoyingly there are none near us - 40 mins away is nearest and I can't commit to that on a week night with 3 kids. I have a tunnel she likes going through and some hula hoops and cones so I might invest in some other bits and make her a course in the garden lol.

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 26/09/2021 08:12

@Random789 ahem.....picture? I love terriers.

Get the petrol @cheeseisthebest. Friend is stranded 2hrs from home because of a lack of fuel. The car we bought on Friday is a hybrid but still needs fuel. OK for short journeys though.

We're back to the night wakings now we're home and pup's crate isn't in the same room, two last night. She goes back to sleep again once she hears/sees someone but some uninterrupted sleep in my own bed would be nice.

We seem to have lost her fox on holiday, not sure whether a replacement will work. It's one of the ones she knows the name of but do they do that by sight or smell. Fox was pretty grotty so no doubt smells quite different to a new one.

Hello all! New puppy owner here, can I join? Border collie pup has just had her first night at home with us. Husband slept on sofa doing puppy shift whilst I had toddler night waking shift. Why have we done this??

Pup did quite well for first night, she was clearly very timid yesterday for her first but is a bundle of excitement this morning!

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 26/09/2021 08:41

@tizwozliz mine has had a few unsettled nights. Last night was the foghorn and quite obviously hoping for a repeat of me leaving the crate unlocked so he could sleep on the sofa. We have also gone backwards on snails...found one on the sofa plus trails. He brings them in and pops them somewhere safe.... amazing how gently he carries them.

@Cathster a toddler and a puppy and a collie puppy 😯 You obviously like a busy life

Hello all new puppy people, remember to post photos so we can all coo!!!

FawkesPup went back to bed at 5:30am after his customary toilet stop and I got to stay in bed til gone 6:30 which was fab. He whined for a couple of minutes but I think got the message quickly! Reckon we can try downstairs soon as he's starting to be less clingy with me too. I can now visit the loo without him in there. I mean, he still follows me but sits in the hallway to make sure I don't leave instead, but it's progress! Also happy to sleep in his bed and not at my feet too.

Bought some bitey stuff in Aldi and managed to get it in my own mouth and OMG it's rank. Can see why it works now!!!

Going to take him to the big park in town today. There's a stream in it so I reckon I might need a towel!!!

tizwozliz · 26/09/2021 08:47

I'm pretty sure I can't blame a foghorn here in the East Midlands Grin

She'll get there eventually (I hope) - she's doing pretty well with most other aspects right now. Friend with labs was amazed she'd settle on the floor and go to sleep in a strange house whilst we were eating pizza.

tizwozliz · 26/09/2021 08:50

Ah yes, reminder photos for the new thread. Pup is a 4.5 month old lab and has just enjoyed her first holiday in Devon

GuyFawkesDay · 26/09/2021 08:55

This is FawkesPup, he's 16 weeks today so 3 1/2 months(?)
He's a typical cocker spaniel. Total gannet, into everything, people focussed, bitey as hell. But we love him.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 26/09/2021 09:03

we have just got a puppy JR, along with our own established JR
my established JR is growling at puppy, who has learnt to growl back!

MightyMeerkat · 26/09/2021 09:04

Thank you for the new thread @MakeMeCleanTheHouse

And welcome to the new pups!

Mighty Pup is 15 weeks and a sprocker. She has boundless energy and growls when told no!

We had a good night last night. 11 - 6 and then 6.30 - 8. Two walks and puppy socialisation class tired her out.

Worryingly pup has a new trick of jumping up and getting stuff off the kitchen table. Nothing is safe any more!

Anyone have any tips for managing letting a dirty dog into the house? Pup went outside to wee and then came in and ran around like a loon smearing mud on the floor, furniture and her bed. When I tried to clean her paws, she nipped me and managed to smear mud all over me 🙈

Cathster · 26/09/2021 09:09

@MakeMeCleanTheHouse you are right, we do like the busy life! To be fair DD2 is a pre schooler now rather than a toddler but she’s probably harder work than the pup!

DH is incapable of staying still so we thought that pup would stop him getting into mischief Grin

Love the puppy pics, here is ours, just over 8 weeks old

GuyFawkesDay what is the bitey stuff you bought from Aldi? Just about to go to Aldi so will look for it

MrsHerculePoirot · 26/09/2021 10:03

Thanks for thread!

@MakeMeCleanTheHouse we put a towel on the floor inside the door and sprinkled kibble/treats on the end of it so PoirotPup stands still ish to eat them and we can clean his paws!

MightyMeerkat · 26/09/2021 10:47

@Cathster Your pup is gorgeous 😍

That's a good tip @MrsHerculePoirot I'll try that. I've been using old beach towels to clean pup but they're are big and heavy which will be hard to wash and dry in winter. So I've ordered some inexpensive travel towels, am hoping they will work ok.

LadyCatStark · 26/09/2021 10:47

Thanks for the new thread! Here’s a new thread pic of my very much non puppy looking puppy, Billy aged 6 months enjoying the biggest chew he’s ever seen!

That’s a good idea @MrsHerculePoirot I’m having to mop the floor daily 😭.
