The foghorn is sounding frequently and I suspect that's why I'm up enjoying the ambience of a foggy garden at 4am.

Hoping @BaconandAvocado is fast asleep and all the others with wide awake pups.

Our terrier comes in and jumps straight on the sofa 😡 DH is unperturbed by mess so doesn't react to stop it. I twitch

Bought some bitey stuff in Aldi and managed to get it in my own mouth and OMG it's rank. 🤣

My 16 week old baby...

Checking in! Thanks @MakeMeCleanTheHouse!

@GuyFawkesDay I have also bought some anti chew spray and it is foul! I’ve found I’ve had to wash my hands twice to get it off. It’s also a smell that gets lodged in the nose 🤢

Nice pootle to the village green with with DD and Mac pup this morning. He ate something I don’t want to think about and is definitely getting bolder so will be taking the long line out this afternoon.

Aria20 · 26/09/2021 11:34

@MakeMeCleanTheHouse I put an old towel on floor by conservatory door and make sure I shut the door into the kitchen so at least if she runs in it's only small conservatory with hard floor that gets muddy! She does sit and let me dry her paws one at a time though! When it's horrendous outside I take her on her lead to the stone area to toilet, saves her getting muddy and soaked

Greetings all!
Well, last night went a bit like this.......

Newboy (and us) went to bed at 11.
We heard a slight whimper at almost 3:40 so I went down and ley him out for a wee.
He went straight back to his crate and I was very pleased with a new record time of 4hours and 40 minutes uninterrupted sleep!

Then.......
We woke at six when we heard him shuffling about via the baby monitor and DH came down to a poo and wee in the kitchen.

So, very much swings and roundabouts for my first time upstairs!
But I'm really glad I've made the transition from sofa to bed, no going back now.

Tonight we're going to set an alarm for 5ish, come down and let him out for his poo, hopefully.

Thanks all for your brilliant tips and advice.
This thread truly is a lifeline to me 🙏🏻

BaconAndAvocado · 26/09/2021 12:19

Thanks for the new thread.

tizwozliz live your pic of your 4.5 month old (if I remember correctly) Lab.
Although it is scaring me a bit how quickly Labs grow.....!

All the pup pics are fab!

BaconAndAvocado · 26/09/2021 12:23

Love not live 🙄

GuyFawkesDay · 26/09/2021 12:51

This is the look of a puppy who did NOT WANT to get out the stream. He's been absolutely crazy in the park, blooming hilarious running in the stream on his 5m long line, then having epic zoomies 🤣🤣🤣 he was angelic for the hour before this so I've forgiven him.

MightyMeerkat · 26/09/2021 12:57

Ha ha if puppies could give you an evil look that would be it 🤣🤣

Lifeishitsometimes · 26/09/2021 13:03

@BaconAndAvocado that's brilliant. I'd take a poo and a wee any day for a night in a proper bed. 5,am seems to be prime pooing hour. My pup gets her last meal at 8, thinking it is something to do with transit time maybe.

ashmts · 26/09/2021 13:04

@GuyFawkesDay Hilarious! I'm such a spaniel addict now, I just love them. They're so expressive.

@BaconAndAvocado Sounds like a semi-success? I think setting an alarm in advance of them needing out rather than relying on them making noises overnight is a good plan. Is he crated or can he roam about the kitchen? Sleeping in the crate speeds up toilet training (apparently) but appreciate it has its own issues

GuyFawkesDay · 26/09/2021 13:05

@MightyMeerkat he's definitely planning my murder there 🤣🤣🤣🤣

What is it with 5am, is it some sort of doggy poo o'clock??!!

Aria20 · 26/09/2021 13:26

@GuyFawkesDay haha evil eyes for sure! Mine always gets crazy zoomies when wet too! She hasn't found love of streams yet though and looked horrified when she accidentally went in to deep water following a more water confident spaniel!

Thanks for the new thread! Ive been quiet on the last one this week as DD has had tonsillitis so been trying to balance work, poorly teen and the puppy. Then today DS is feeling ill, cough, cold and sick in the night so off for PCRs we whet this morning. I’ve got the sniffles too so I had a test at the same time. Luckily DH has taken the pup out for his walks today and I’ll just have to let him in the garden until we can leave the house again.

Finally sorted the utility room this week to put pup’s crate and feeding stuff in. All fits better than I expected and he’s slept there the last 3 nights. Also means when we start to leave him for a bit he can have the run of it without the worries of him chewing the main part of the house. That reminds me, I need to get the dog flap sorted too.

Loving all the photographs. Helps remind who has which pup. Have added one of mine. He’s 13 weeks old and a springer/cocker/beagle mix-up!

BaconAndAvocado · 26/09/2021 13:43

ashmts a semi-success is the perfect way of describing it!

He's crated but hates the door being closed so yes, he roams!

Lifeishitsometimes yep I agree re poo/wee v sleep choice!

Newboy is having a his Big Daytime Sleep now so I might have a power nap. I just couldn't get back to sleep after 4 🙄

adviceatthislatestage · 26/09/2021 13:47

Hi, can I join please. We have Merlin, a 4 month Hungarian wire haired Vizsla.

He's less jumpy and bitey than he was when I posted on another thread, but still has his moments.

DD has taken him to an agility taster session this afternoon. Hopefully will tire him about as we are having family over later as it's DD's birthday today.

He's going to be super excited with all these people in the house, although has met them separately a few times. Thats when all his good behaviour goes right out the window.

Is this a thread where we can ask questions too, or just a gallery for gorgeous puppy pics? How can I stop him jumping up at the worktop - does it all the time, and it's annoying when trying to make a cuppa or prep dinner.

Puppy class advice was to scatter treats away from him so he gets down. I must be doing it wrong as he hoovers them as quick as anything and then jumps back up again. Thanks

Hopefully I'm attatching a pic of my pup. He looks rather mournful, but I think he just has resting mournful face.

We've had a great day with him today so far, in the lovely autumn sunshine. We've worked on 'come' , 'sit', and going to stand on a mat when asked. He has the first two reasonably well but the third is a work in progress!

Random789 · 26/09/2021 14:08

Try again. I never have much luck with pics on MN.

cheeseisthebest · 26/09/2021 14:12

BaconandAdvocado i think that is definitely a success. Must have felt wonderful to sleep in your own bed.

Random789 · 26/09/2021 14:16

Last attempt - with a smaller pic

Thanks for the new thread. I love seeing all the photos of all those gorgeous puppies. This is AwesomePup, he's a 6 month old (on Friday) lab. I had trouble finding any photos of him because they all seem to feature DD or DH as well.

MrsHerculePoirot · 26/09/2021 16:05

@adviceatthislatestage I think I’ve read to try to reward before he jumps up. So start lobbing treats away from you/the counter and onto the floor before the point he jumps up.

You can teach a settle on a mat - initially I think you’d need it fairly close to where you are and then can reward with a fairly constant stream of treats as he stays and then reduce the frequency/mix up the frequency and ultimately move the mat/bed further away again.

We have a gate to the kitchen but at the moment and if PoirotPup does down the other side of the gate I’ve rewarded that so he often does that now as his default when someone is in there!

MrsHerculePoirot · 26/09/2021 16:09

Here is PoirotPup- 7.5 month lab!

So many gorgeous pups.

MakeMePup went to retrieve a stick from some shallow water...'cept it was deeper than he thought and a relatively big jump down from a paved area. He committed, stepped off.... and changed his mind but ended with bum in the air and front paws up to his chest in the water and stuck 😄
