The foghorn is sounding frequently and I suspect that's why I'm up enjoying the ambience of a foggy garden at 4am.

Hoping @BaconandAvocado is fast asleep and all the others with wide awake pups.

We'd considered Eden when switching but struggled to get hold of samples. For our lab Eden would have worked out slightly more expensive but not much - 1.45 ish a day

GuyFawkesDay · 20/10/2021 16:36

I got some samples from the raw feeding shop. He absolutely loved both flavours so I will get a 6kg bag I think and mix it up. Once those are gone I'll put him on their country cuisine dry but the working dog formula as it's basically identical (1% protein difference) but VAT free

BaconAndAvocado · 20/10/2021 17:45

@GuyFawkesDay

When you're looking at it, check the feeding guides as mid range can work out more. So we feed Eden (£55/12kg on Jurassic Bark) but FawkesPup gets 140gm a day, whereas on Royal Canin it's twice that quantity so ends up working out more.
That's interesting, will definitely check that 👍🏻

Sandwichpup has gone off his kibble too, switched to tails as recommended by a friend but sandwichpup not interested. Tails suggested warm marmite on the kibble which I tried tonight, he liked the marmite but still left his kibble. Tried wet food mixed in but he still hasn't eaten any yet. All I have left is trying majority/all wet food or switching kibble again.

Sandwichpup is constantly jumping up, tried ignoring, praising when he isn't jumping up but nothing working. It seems to be getting worse and on his off lead walk earlier he jumped up at a runner
Any suggestions?

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 20/10/2021 18:10

I moved over to Eden but he definitely needs more than the recommended amount. They recommend 249g I think and he was having 100g at each meal....plus treats and is not overweight. He's also got loose bowels so I might try Millie Wolfy... @tizwozliz how much is Ada having?

@MakeMeCleanTheHouse - she's only getting slightly over 300g of kibble at the moment (100g per meal and the odd extra handful) It's slightly under the feeding guide for her age and weight but over the course of the week she'll also have a couple of eggs, a tin or two or sardines and often a pouch or two of wet food and a fair amount of JR pate as well.

They were really helpful when I emailed asking for help on flavours as there's a lot of choice. Eden told me that the only dry food suitable for puppies under 12 months was the original although I haven't seen that stated anywhere else.

GuyFawkesDay · 20/10/2021 18:57

Dry Eden is original only but pups can have the semi moist duck/tripe or wild boar/pheasant too, and the wet food.

They're apparently releasing a puppy food. And although it has to be advertised as adult only it was an all through food until recently. Something to do with calcium levels and large breeds?

We have got into a good routine here, but today DH did the early morning bit (taking the pup out first thing, then feeding him breakfast), though I usually handle those things. The puppy seemed really unsettled for the rest of the morning. The same thing happened a couple of weeks ago. It seems odd that such a minor change in routine would affect him so much but it has happened twice so I don't think it's a coincidence. I would like him to feel comfortable about the routine but be able to cope with minor changes. I'm not sure how to approach this TBH.

@sandwiches77, we are also dealing with jumping up. I was feeling cautiously optimistic as it seemed to be getting a bit better, but the last couple of days have not been good. One piece of advice I've received has been to step toward the puppy when he jumps up rather than turning away. That does seem to stop him in his tracks, though it's no guarantee that he will stay down for long. I don't have any other words of wisdom, just sending you solidarity!

This site may help you with making decisions about food about dog food It gives cost per day on each food based on your dog and rates the nutritional value etc. All from an unbaised team.

PollyRoullson · 20/10/2021 20:11

Re jumping up put treats on the floor as he approaches. If consistent he will get into the habit of greeting with four feet on the ground.

graceandgratitude · 20/10/2021 22:42

Ahh can totally relate on the kibble challenges - I put a separate thread up a few days ago asking for advice as my 4 month old pup was rejecting all kibble! I could only get him to eat through games. I've just switched to Lily's kitchen puppy wet food and I'm SO relieved to share that he gobbled the whole thing down. Think he likes it but also nicer for him with teething. I think it comes out quite expensive but right now I'm just happy he's got something he likes and will eat! Hoping it stays that way...

In other news...

He hates the rain and would rather wee inside now than go in the garden (cries inside).

He lost a tooth yesterday!

Have also given in to letting him sleep in the bed for a few hours which I'm probably going to regret!

On the plus side he joined me at the office today and was so well behaved #proudpawrent

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 21/10/2021 07:18

Mine was ambivalent about food to the point we dropped the midday meal at one point (now reinstated). Stayed on kibble and he wolfs it down now. I find wet food a right faff. I also think it's hard to go back to kibble once they've experienced the other!

Also having rain protests....Will not walk, will not pee. Up twice last night because he had held on. 😒

AwesomePup was stressed by the noise of the wind last night. I heard him crying quietly and trying to get out of his pen at around 1:30. So I came down and slept on the sofa with him beside me for the rest of the night. The wind was pretty loud, blowing bins and stuff around, so I'm not surprised he was stressed about that noise while he was alone tbh. He went to sleep immediately when I was there with him.

Aria20 · 21/10/2021 09:16

Mine held her wee for an impressive 11.5 hours last night as I took her out for bedtime wee and it was pouring rain so she just stood there looking sorry for herself so I gave up!

Aria21 wow that's a fantastically long time!!

Yep, Newboy did a protest poo and wee last night in the kitchen with the back door open 🙄
I guess darkness and heavy rain aren't that appealing!!!

Husband is really struggling with puppy blues atm.

She chewed his box for his very expensive watch. I looked to replace it and it’s £400!
