I will start
Corgis
Afghan Hounds

When I was a child I used to see lots of Afghan Hounds
And I don’t see any of the Collies with long hair (like Lassie is it a Rough Collie?)
Border Collies I see a lot of though

@Sunbird24

Full-size Airedale or Schnauzer, only see the miniature versions SharPei
There are two giant schnauzers that go to our local park, my mini schnauzer loves meeting them.

@Lifeisaminestrone

A family member had red setters - she understands why no longer popular - they are bonkers. Loving but absolutely bonkers. Beautiful though.
I knew two when I was growing up. One from the house opposite who would regularly lie in the middle of the road; the other belonged to my friends family. We lived in a seaside town, the dog would run along the beach stealing peoples socks. Lovely but bonkers indeed.Grin

Currently sat here with a Cairn at my feet. I’m asked whether she’s a Westie on a regular basis 🙄
I love a standard Dachshund but rarely see them now. Can’t remember last time I saw an Airedale or a Fox Terrier.

Hersetta427 · 21/08/2021 22:07

Lady in the next road tonis has two gorgeous red setters that I see everyday during term time as she walks them exactly the same time as I take DS to school. Only seen 1 rough collie in the last couple of years and Afghans are even rarer.

I saw two Airedales in the park yesterday. Afaik they only come in one size, the smaller ones which look similar are Welsh terriers I think.
Afolnerd · 21/08/2021 22:17

When I was young my grandmother had an Irish water spaniel.
I don’t think I have ever seen another one.

Carycy · 21/08/2021 22:18

We never see all that many boarder collies anymore. I used to have two. Everyone had them. They are high maintenance though and one man and his dog isn’t on.

fightingirish · 21/08/2021 22:25

This is our new bundle of madness! Saoirse the rottie!

@MrsDeaconClaybourne

Setters
I have one - he's lovely Grin
FernieB · 21/08/2021 22:50

There are lots of dogs near us of a wide variety of breeds, although I've not seen any Old English Sheepdogs for years.

When I take my boy out it seems that every second dog is an 'oodle' and every third dog is a cockerpoo.

FernieB · 21/08/2021 22:54

Better photo of my gorgeous (and very naughty) setter

I have a dog that I haven't seen mentioned on here and I can't walk more than two paces without someone stopping me!

He's a cinnamon chow chow - all fluffy and looks like a teddy bear 🧸

It must be an area thing - every other dog around here seems to be a border collie or a spaniel Grin
Girliefriendlikespuppies · 21/08/2021 23:04

When we were kids we had an English setter, she was completely mad but a lovely dog. I can't ever remember seeing another one.

On my housing estate there are quite a few Dalmatians, there's one basset hound I see quite frequently.

Otherwise most of the dogs are poodle mixes, labs, spaniels or retrievers.

Mines a Heinz 57 😁

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 21/08/2021 23:08

I’ve never seen a bloodhound in real life

marmaladehound · 21/08/2021 23:20

@Farevalah

We have a bearded collie who always gets lots of attention when on his walks. Apparently they're rare now, which is a shame because they really are fabulous dogs.
Oh I love bearded collies. We use to have one down the road but think she has since died, she was very old. Would love to own one but far too much work for my family sadly.
CalmConfident · 21/08/2021 23:24

My relatives had setters when we were kids - red (bonkers extrovert), English (chilled), Gordon (gorgeous looking). They now have working clumber spaniels - you do not see them much either !

MonicaGellerHyphenBing · 21/08/2021 23:32

I own Cavaliers and it’s rare we encounter any others on our walks (and most we do see are barrel-shaped).

Irish setter are arguably my favourite breed and I definitely want to own one at some point soon, they’re another breed I rarely ever see.

Therehavetobeadjustment · 21/08/2021 23:58

I know three Bloodhounds, they are absolutely enormous!

CircusSands · 22/08/2021 00:02

@Farevalah beautiful beardie boy!

HoobleDooble · 22/08/2021 00:03

Proper good old-fashioned 'cross breeds' created by accident on the park that leave people trying to piece together the different bits to work out the breeds. My friend's dog that she got from a rescue had the eyes of a pug, a coat like an Afghan, a long curly tail and legs like a lurcher, used to make my day just looking at her!
