I will start
Corgis
Afghan Hounds

When I was a child I used to see lots of Afghan Hounds
And I don’t see any of the Collies with long hair (like Lassie is it a Rough Collie?)
Border Collies I see a lot of though

Where I am there are loads of mongrels.

Of course their owners don't call them mongrels Grin

They are labracockerdoodles and dachshoubichons and yorkiefrises and (very popular) Chugs.

TurquoiseBaubles · 21/08/2021 21:11

I'm in Ireland and I miss the ubiquitous Irish Wolfhounds (bonker and totally uncoordinated) and Red Setters (absolutely mad).

There aren't as many boxers as there used to be. I love them, even though they appear to be pretty thick.

DogFoodPie · 21/08/2021 21:12

I like the sound of Silken Windhounds, a cross breed between Borzois and whippets. Can't decide if the name is romantic or digestive though.

LaurieFairyCake · 21/08/2021 21:18

My beautiful Scottie for those who haven't seen one in a while

She's the best dog in the world 🥰🥰🥰

I saw an Afghan Hound today!!
First for ages.

HarrisMcCoo · 21/08/2021 21:20

@Leonberger

Reading lots of these comments it does make me realise I’ve seen a lot less bigger dogs around! Mostly all small/medium in this area with the bigger ones being collie or spaniel size!

I know in lockdown the prices of the giants didn’t really go up much which I think shows how unpopular they are compared to the little fluffies, such a shame as they really are amazing dogs!

Definitely agree. Big to most people around my area is Lab or spaniel. Loads of small dogs overall.

I was stopped by two women last night as they wanted to pet my dog, saying they rarely see St Bernards around. It's such a shame, the giants are fantastic dogs.

HarrisMcCoo · 21/08/2021 21:24

@Chunkymenrock

St Bernard, Pyrenean Mountain dog, Manchester Terrier. I'm fed up of the sight of CockERpoos too.
I have a St Bernard. They are chilled dogs. Lots of lazing around, gentle souls.

I've just nearly spat my wine over my rather lovely new throw Grin

Lifeisaminestrone · 21/08/2021 21:29

A family member had red setters - she understands why no longer popular - they are bonkers. Loving but absolutely bonkers. Beautiful though.

Ginjanotaninja · 21/08/2021 21:32

I've a Pembroke Corgi and he is a rarity where I live. He's a hairy loveable rogue, with a true welsh name - that causes no end of issues at the vets. Grin When people meet him, they say one of two things should I bow/curtsey or does the Queen know you've got him?

I've previous had Irish Terriers and I don't really see them around any more.

HarrisMcCoo · 21/08/2021 21:35

@Newfluff

Big dogs. Just big ones in general, which is v annoying when you have a big dog that wants to play. (She does play with small dogs but it's not the same)
I second that 😂
SingingSands · 21/08/2021 21:44

Irish Setters. My brother has one and it takes him ages to walk anywhere in public because people stop him all the time to admire the dog (he is absolutely beautiful!). Lots of comments are "we had one growing up but you just don't see them any more!"

There's an Afghan Hound in my village, he's gorgeous. I also see a Dandy Dinmont every day, which walks past my house with a Basset Hound. Three quite unusual breeds nowadays I think.

Every other dog round here seems to be a doodlepoo or a Vizsla.

@OverByYer

Now I’m googling all these dogs and wanting a new one. The smooth collie is lovely
Why thank you, kind lady..
YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 21/08/2021 21:47

That should have a pic attached. Balls

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 21/08/2021 21:49

Yorkshire terriers
Pekinese

OverByYer · 21/08/2021 21:52

Gorgeous boy, lovely markings

minipie · 21/08/2021 21:53

Anything except a cockerpoo or cavapoo has virtually gone round here. Even the once popular labradoodles have reduced.

I must know about 30 families with dogs. One beagle, one lab, two cocker spaniels.
Rest are poodle crosses.

QueenofLouisiana · 21/08/2021 21:53

@DogFoodPie based on the smells coming from my hound, definitely a digestive description!

His head reaches my waist, a huge, cuddly snooze-monster.

olidora63 · 21/08/2021 21:55

We had Old English Sheepdogs when I was a child…vert rarely see one now…beautiful big soppy fluff balls

minipie · 21/08/2021 21:55

We did go to another area of the UK earlier this year and were surrounded by whippets and greyhounds! Not sure if there was a specific rescue near there or if it’s just the fashion there… made a change anyway

Farevalah · 21/08/2021 21:58

We have a bearded collie who always gets lots of attention when on his walks. Apparently they're rare now, which is a shame because they really are fabulous dogs.

Hellotoallmyfans · 21/08/2021 21:58

I'm sure someone has already said it but collie dogs. They were everywhere In the 70's (probably because of Lassie) but I don't remember the last time I saw one.

TheVolturi · 21/08/2021 21:58

Agree with Alsatians. They used to be everywhere in the 80s/90s. Such good dogs too.

Sunbird24 · 21/08/2021 22:01

Full-size Airedale or Schnauzer, only see the miniature versions
