PestDog has two meals a day - one after his morning short walk, before I go to work at about 8.30 and one after his main extra long evening walk and likely bath, so about 8/9pm. It seems to suit him, and a midday meal would frequently be impractical so I prefer to stick to two meals reliably

Squirrel26 · 22/04/2018 09:25

I was actually wearing the waist but of the lead as a belt. Didn’t work Blush

I used to feed SquirrelDog 3 times a day, because he was underweight. Now he gets breakfast after his morning walk and dinner after the evening one, at slightly random times depending on what day it is and how long we’ve been out!

BiteyShark · 22/04/2018 09:56

We have woken to a daft BiteyDog puppy who has been stalking and wrestling his toy which he hardly ever does. Must be the nice morning weather after the thunder storms last night.

Sounds like Biteydog is feeling good Bitey Smile

Bluepuppy and I are SO over summer. 31 degrees today and forecast 32 tomorrow Angry After feeling a bit unwell after our walk yesterday because of the sun I decided to walk a Bluepuppy after dark today. My dad is walking him tomorrow and I’ve stressed to him to walk in the morning before it gets too hot. He’s great with Bluepuppy but is new to dogs so I have to spell some things out.

BiteyShark · 22/04/2018 10:55

I think I prefer uk summer temps blue as that sounds way too uncomfortable. We are just doing 1-2 mins of ball play in the garden so he doesn't get too hot.

Smile steppe

I've been worried about walking Indy in this heat so he's had short walks or been in the shady garden but it's cooler today which means he can have proper walks again. Yesterday he was very panty and he didn't go that far.

steppemum · 23/04/2018 12:14

Oh aren't Bassett Hounds the most ridiculous looking dogs!

No offence intended, they are cute. Well, I'm not sure cute is the right word, they are quite Churchillian and dignified, but you know what I mean.

We regularly meet a walker with 2 or 3 Bassett Hounds. They are just such a bizarre shape, absolutely huge, I think if one yawned the whole os steppedog's head would fit in its mouth!
Massive head, massive shoulders, thick hips, deep chest, and then..... no legs!

Their tummy drags on the floor pretty much.
Just what and how did anyone breed such a chunky dog with no legs?!

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 23/04/2018 12:28

Can't believe I've had to have an argument with dog sitting DF about how he can't leave PestDog alone in the car in this weather.

Apparently a cracked window was good enough for the dogs the family had when he was growing up and they never died Hmm In the end I told him that the police would smash his window to get the dog out, and that if he has to go somewhere PestDog can't go I want him left at home.

It's like a foreshadowing of what DF would be like as a DGF!

Wolfiefan · 23/04/2018 12:38

Poor baby pest dog! I left madam in the car for a couple of minutes. In the shade. Car was cool when I stopped (awesome air con) and privacy glass. Did think if it was a degree or two warmer I wouldn't be able to leave her at all.
Dogs do die. And it doesn't have to be properly hot. And no. A cracked window doesn't save them.

Squirrel26 · 23/04/2018 22:16

I've had this from certain members of my family too. I do not care if in the 1960s your dog ate chocolate and onions for every meal and never visited the vet. It's 2018 and my dog does not eat foods I know to be poisonous to him! (So take that flipping open box of After Eights off the coffee table. Sorry, Christmas flashback there )

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 23/04/2018 22:29

Ah yes, DF left a slab of cheese on the coffee table, unwrapped, before we came to visit.

I was very impressed that PestDog just sniffed and possibly licked, but did not nibble, the cheese Grin For his faults, he's remarkably good at not stealing food!

GooodMythicalMorning · 23/04/2018 23:39

Dm's husband decided he was going to hold my dogs tongue down as he mouthed him once when a puppy, was not amused! Almost as annoyed as when he gave ds alcohol as a baby when I expressly told him not to Hmm

BiteyShark · 24/04/2018 07:59

It must be so annoying when family do daft things. Dog ownership has changed so much since my parents had dogs and we know so much more now on what's toxic/dangerous.

BiteyDog is going through a phase at the moment. I think it might be a blip in the teenage/adult age. He didn't want to know us on Sunday and wouldn't come and sit with us and was really stroppy throughout most of the day. We have been having a battle of the wills over food e.g. no pudding biscuit until you have eaten your dinner. Then yesterday he was really clingy, climbing all over us and wanting a cuddle. Can't work the furry monster out some days Hmm

Indys 1st birthday today. We've just been on a very wet walk. Mil has made him a doggy friendly birthday cake bless!

Happy Birthday Indy!

steppedog is in the dog house.
Lots to do, so as soon as dd left for school, I took steppedog out. I knew he needed a really good walk/run as he has been restless, (missing dh's evenign excursions with him). So good 1.5 hours, with loads of ball throwing, running etc, just about to leave the nature reserve, tired and happy, my mind on the work I have to do today and the bugger finds a big patch of poo. Fox poo I assume, but it was alarge wet patch, and he nose dived it, agina and again until it was ground inot his chin and chest and of course his collar and harness.

I had to completely shampoo him. He was not happy (but was veyr good, stood still and let me do it)

I rubbed him down and then left him to air dry, but after about an hour, he loked really miserable, and I was worried he was cold, so we went and played with the hairdryer, which I think is his new favourite thing.

very beautiful he is, white fluffy bits, soft and handsome....and I finally sat down to work over and hour late.

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 24/04/2018 16:12

They are time thieves aren’t they! We have just been to agility , lots of back to basics training today which was a relief for me and the first time cocodog didn’t try to run up to the other dogs when offlead...so progress😁
Happy Birthday Indy , hope you are enjoying your cake.
Steppemum, Fox poo is the worst smell and it lingers despite bathing.
Bitey, I have only had greedy dogs and cocodog eats all her food up and then lovingly licks the bowl round several times. She also doesn’t counter surf and goes straight to her bed when we are eating and when the telephone rings. We never trained her to do this, it’s very odd but she came from a family who ran a B & B and I often wonder if her mum did it and she copied. I am not complaining.

BiteyShark · 24/04/2018 16:23

steppemum they are so disgusting aren't they. Make the most of him being clean as it won't last long Grin

I forgot to ask Good but what was the doggy friendly cake made of?

thegirlsall sounds like a good day at agility and it's always nice to feel you are improving. A gun shoot went off close by to us this week and it really spooked him so he didn't want to do anything at agility after that which was a shame. He has however been really good doing his homework in the garden today. We are back to clingy again today but still having to ignore his attempts at not eating his food as he just wants his pudding.

Thanks

I think it has lilys steak in the middle, gravy bones stood up around the edge and I think a little torn up ham on the top. Pets at home usually have a premade one but they didnt have any when we went.

BiteyShark · 24/04/2018 18:30

Sounds lovely Goood from a dogs viewpoint Grin

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 24/04/2018 19:16

Yum, yum...I’ll have a smidge of torn ham off the top please😀

noitsnotteatimeyet · 26/04/2018 18:43

Happy belated birthday to Indy Cake

Poor teatimetoller is feeling very under the weather - I think all the weeks and weeks of painkillers and antibiotics are wreaking havoc with his digestive system. He’s had a very upset stomach for the last couple of days and even spat out some proffered treats this morning - so we know he’s really not feeling great .... I’ve ordered him some probiotics which I’m hoping might sort out his dodgy tummy

I just want my happy healthy dog back Sad

BiteyShark · 26/04/2018 18:49

Sending teatimetoller some good vibes to get him better. Hopefully the probiotic will get his stomach bacteria back to health.

Hope you get the happy doggie back soon.
I too would like the healthy version of my dog. Now we have..... a limp!!!
Shock
Thinking pulled muscle. It's ok then she settles down for a bit and has to walk it off when she gets up. No swelling or heat or injury to the paw. She doesn't complain when I move the leg. Oh and she can chase the cat. Wink
