BiteyDog was much better last night. We only had one excursion around the bedroom Hmm at 4am and he went back to his bed when I pointed at it.

Happy dog Smile playing one of favourite games - stick-bobbing in the river. We’ve got a couple of quite fast-flowing rivers relatively nearby which he loves to swim in. I’m less keen on him going into ponds as I do worry about water quality

Yes the ponds here tend to be very dirty as a lot of cows and horses tend to wade in them. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to put BiteyDog off swimming and drinking from them Angry

Bored dog dreaming of the day she can go for walks and go stick bobbing in rivers again! Only 10 days left before we can start our walks again!

PestDog went for a paddle in the dog pond yesterday, but not even a stick thrown for him could persuade him to get his belly wet Hmm

Our local park has outdoor swimming ponds dedicated for men, women, mixed sex and dogs, which is all very civilised!

BiteyShark · 21/04/2018 06:56

Sounds very civilised Avocados. Mine used to stand and not get very wet but now he just dives in and looks smug knowing I will have to wash him Angry.

BiteyDog is back to being good at night but he woke with glupy eyes this morning. This happened for a few months last year so I wonder if he is allergic to something in the garden rather than an infection.

steppemum · 21/04/2018 09:01

feeling very smug this morning, steppedog and I went out for our first run. dh has run with him a couple of times, but steppedog just dragged him along, so I said - teach him to run with you on a lead, or don't run with him.

I haven't run for about a year, and stopped because of knee trouble, so I am hoping that 6 months of brisk walking has strengthened my knee, woke at 6;30 to the most glorious morning, so off we went.

He was an angel, trotted along beside me on the lead, when he started to run (because my running pace is VERY slow compared to his) I just did the same gentle pull back as I do when he pulls on walks and he slotted his oace back to mine.
1 km on lead, then 2 kms off lead, and then back on for the last 1km home.

Very proud of him, and a bit proud of myself as I ran every single step (apart from poo picking and abotu 10 yards up a steep bank) and come home feeling good, and not completely knackered.

I suspect that walking a dog every day has kept me quite fit!

BiteyShark · 21/04/2018 09:07

Well done steppedog and you. I feel tired just reading how far you both ran Grin

Off to agility soon and think I had better put some suncream on as it looks like it's going to be hot Grin

Lucky Steppedog going running. Bluepuppy would love me to go running with him but running doesn’t agree with me (trust me, I’ve tried.) He’ll just have to be content with brisk walks, day care, beach runs and dog parks. Think he’ll survive Grin

Did a group walk with him this morning and he wanted to be everyone’s friend. Even had a few people telling me they are thinking of getting a whippet of their own!

He’s still cat level fussy. I have taken to batch cooking him home made breakfast every weekend as I hated having to take him to daycare on an empty stomach some days as he refuses the food he loves at dinner in the morning Confused Finding kibble for him is the worst. He’s gone through so many different types.

BiteyShark · 21/04/2018 09:51

BiteyDog will eat less at breakfast so I have to adjust the amounts. Do daycare feed him blue? I have started leaving some for ours to feed him at lunch but I have to use a cool bag to keep it fresh as he gets fed wet.

OP posts:
steppemum · 21/04/2018 11:32

interesting about the food.

When steppedog arrived from the rescue, they said they feed all their dogs once per day in the evening. They said it is more like the natural feeding pattern of a dog. Only exceptions were thin dogs who needed feeding up, puppies and dogs with special diets.

So steppedog gets a big dinner, then crashes. No breakfast. He does get a dental chew and a couple of those stick chews after his walk.

Mind you, he is a dustbin of a dog when it comes to food, so maybe he isn't the best example....

BiteyShark · 21/04/2018 11:35

I think BiteyDog does better on three meals a day but that's due to his IBD. I have to remind myself to do the lunch time one as it's easy to forget and then I wonder why he keeps bumping me with his nose Grin

He's crashed out now on the kitchen floor as it's cool.

I like running with SquirrelDog. He pulls less as we’re moving more at the pace he wants to go at, and it makes him more tired than just walking does.

We went for a walk by the sea this morning. Idiot dog got distracted by a bird and fell right off the harbour wall, where he dangled gently from his bungee lead, attached to me by a waist belt. (Luckily on a harness, not on his collar, and the tide was out.) I had to jump down about 8 foot and walk round to a boat ramp with him, while my friend laughed at us. Stupid dog Hmm

bluetongue · 21/04/2018 12:13

The main reason I try and get Bluepuppy to eat breakfast is that he’s an active whippet that I struggle to keep weight on. He actually still gets two meals in the evening even though he’s one year old!

Have the same concerns about leaving wet food Bitey. He doesn’t get fed at daycare and some days he goes there I need to leave at 7am so I can drop him there and then get a train to work.

At least for a few days Australia and parts of the UK have the same warm weather to cope with Grin

BiteyShark · 21/04/2018 12:28

SquirrelDog was lucky Grin. They have no sense Hmm.

The cool bag and ice blocks work well for us at the moment blue as the bag is still cool when I collect him and I know it would have been in a hot car until lunch time as they go on a walk straight after being picked up.

Found BiteyDog playing with a large slow worm just now. Had to rescue it from him Blush

Talk about caveat emptor when it comes to buying a puppy

Three abandoned fox cubs adopted by farmer's dog
"We thought they were puppies and we'd sold two as puppies. Now we've got three fox cubs which we don't know what we're going to do with"

😱😂

BiteyShark · 21/04/2018 12:46

Gosh yes you feel an idiot if the vet had to tell you it was a Fox when you took your supposed puppy along for its first vaccinations Grin

GooodMythicalMorning · 21/04/2018 12:51

Whoops! They look foxy though!

Indy has breakfast and dinner. I think with training treats its enough. Very easy for Bully's to become overweight so hopefully we're doing the right thing. He seems happy doing this way.

Squirrel26 · 21/04/2018 13:10

‘He thought they were his Spaniel Ruby’s puppies’ Eh? So either he hadn’t thought his dog might be pregnant but didn’t find it odd that she’d then had puppies, or...where are Ruby’s puppies...

steppemum · 21/04/2018 15:40

Oh gooood, I met a lady with 4 bulldogs today, and thought of you and Indy. They were all pretty heavy, and very slow and breathing very laboriously. Wasn't sure if it was the weather (altough it was very early this morning, or the breed or the extra weight or age (one was an old dog I think)
They were cute though.

steppemum · 21/04/2018 15:41

Well, I can see how he made the mistake, they are a bit foxy, but not nearly as much as I woudl expect and they are really dark brown.

Squirrel26 · 21/04/2018 18:12

Just had to slightly abort SquirrelDog’s walk because my trousers are too big round the waist and I was in danger of flashing the neighbours Grin I’ll have to make it up to him tomorrow morning.

steppemum · 21/04/2018 21:33

blue - back to food - bluepuppy fits two of the exemptions though - he's still young and he's thin, so he needs more meals.

I find it interesting because everyone is so different in what they do, and it's all new to me!

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 22/04/2018 07:26

Cocodog has breakfast and dinner, always very keen to have her evening meal but quite relaxed about her breakfast timing although she wouldn’t let me forget😜
Squirreldog should have been a gentleman and offered you his lead as a belt😁

noitsnotteatimeyet · 22/04/2018 08:25

Teatimetoller was on two meals a day but we started coming down to little pools of sick in the morning ..it was clear, yellow fluid so just bile. It turned out that he was hungry - he has a very fast metabolism and as a puppy and adolescent we struggled to keep weight on him. We now give him the same amount of food but spaced out during the day so he has a handful of food before bed and he’s not been sick overnight since. I can’t imagine just feeding him once a day!
