Me too. Coats have to have big enough pockets for treats, lots of poop bags, water, pop up bowl and a ball. (Plus my purse now it's getting warmer in case we bump into the ice cream van)

BiteyShark · 09/04/2018 16:12

I'm after what looks like a waist coat type thing (used when hunting or fishing) for the summer so it isn't too hot but I can still take all the stuff needed. The problem is those I like don't have enough individual pockets so I may have to think about getting the needle and thread out and modifying something to get exactly what I want.

GooodMythicalMorning · 09/04/2018 16:14

A gilet. Yes I use one of those sometimes.

BiteyShark · 09/04/2018 16:45

That's it, was trying to remember the name Grin. The problem is finding the right balance of pockets and material thickness wish I hadn't got rid of my sewing machine now as I could have made one

Evening all! I would recommend the Beco poo bag egg shaped thingy that you attach to the lead. They are biodegradable and quite strong. Saves filling pockets with poo bags.

Anyone got any tips for dealing with a sexually frustrated dog? He is likely to be a stud dog at some point so we won’t be neutering him, but he obviously is struggling with his desires at the moment. We discourage any sort of mounting/humping and have upped his exercise level but he appears to be in the middle of a hormone surge at the moment. I do feel a bit sorry for him.... any tips gratefully received!

BiteyShark · 10/04/2018 07:04

My dog has showed no sexual behaviour so no idea what to suggest other than perhaps letting him hump a 'special cushion' that you give to him.

Wolfiefan · 10/04/2018 07:09

Why is he likely to be a stud dog?
They do a chemical castration but I don't know from what age or what effect it would have on long term fertility.

noitsnotteatimeyet · 10/04/2018 14:43

Oh bum ... teatimetoller has had a bit of a relapse - called the neurologist who’s put him back on pain relief and extended the course of antibiotics and he’s back on lead walks again 😕

BiteyShark · 10/04/2018 14:54

Oh no poor teatimetoller. Just when you thought he was almost there Sad

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 10/04/2018 15:00

Oh no. Hope it's very temporary.

steppemum · 10/04/2018 17:46

Oh no poor teatimtoller Sad

I am a hiding my face as a disgrace to dog walkers today.
Walked steppedog and made 2 dog walking faux pas.

There was a dog on lead, steppdog was off lead, when he went closer I called/distracted him and he came running away. Fine. Then the other dog truned round and walked bakc across park towards us. I cut across the grass and called steppedog so we didn't meet (very aware of whole threads about off lead dogs approaching on lead dogs) steppedog decided for some reason not to take a blind bit of notice. He didn't even want to go and greet the other dog, just headed in that direction. Other dog owner shouted at me Blush
(steppedog didn't even end up near him, but he didn't know that he was going to go round)

Then, he was ahead of me in a naice parky bit (not the rough fields and woods we get to later) Steppedog was ahead of me and I watched him do a huge poo, walked up to where he had been and I could not find the poo. So left it in the naice park bit where people and children walk Blush

I'll wear a mask tomorrow.

Wolfie - there are only 5 or so KC Leonberger breeders. The breed has a number of health issues which one or two breeders are determined to eradicate by responsible breeding. My Leo is a particularly good example of one (was pick of the litter) and once he has his hip scores and health check etc has a strong likelihood to provide healthy progeny so i’d Like to help the breeder if I can as she genuinely cares about the genetics. She would not be like the breeder that allowed the woman in a flat on the show ‘10 puppies and us’ to take one. That was awful to watch with that poor dog cooped up.

Teatime - wish your dog better, poor thing.

Steppemum - Leonbergers have the worst recall and are very stubborn so I feel your pain. The poo incident was a bit unfortunate but at least you had a hunt for it. Where we walk near the sea, the path is full of dog mess for runners and prams to roll through. And there must be a dog mess bin every 400m. It really hacks me off people don’t pick up. As a result no dogs are allowed on the beach or off lead after May 1st.

GooodMythicalMorning · 10/04/2018 19:02

There's a woman down my road who walks all five of her dogs at the same time. She makes no attempt at picking up their poop. I dont think she notices tbh or cares.

Wolfiefan · 10/04/2018 19:10

Oo. I must have missed that your dog was a Leonberger. We met two on our walk a couple of days ago. Beautiful dogs. So soft and gentle too. One played with my girl and one just rested its nose in my hand. Excellent reasons to breed. I won't as I don't know nearly enough!! And yes. That woman had no idea about dogs or how to deal with a giant breed and I'm glad to hear your boy came from a better breeder.
The first person who comes up with a way of always finding poo. Even in amongst autumn leaves. That person will make a million!!

GooodMythicalMorning · 10/04/2018 19:17

The flat was way too small for the dog wasnt it. I dont think she was great with her either. One afternoon with a dog doesnt mentally prepare you for ownership, training etc.

Pradaqueen · 10/04/2018 19:27

I think it was the fact she turned up dressed for a wedding or something to collect the dog with nothing. No dog carrier, no water, no food, no poo bags, no blanket. And planning on taking a new puppy with no inoculations on a train! Our breeder would not have let the dog leave her. Silly woman.

Pradaqueen · 10/04/2018 19:29

Ps I won’t be breeding. Just providing the dogs Services.

Wolfiefan · 10/04/2018 19:34

Oh I had forgotten about the train. I mainly remember the stupid shrieking and complete failure at any form of effective training.
People often ask if we would breed. My girl was sensibly endorsed by the breeder (who would likely remove it if we asked.) I just say she was one of 14 and born by c section and they don't push it! Grin

BiteyShark · 10/04/2018 19:53

Oh yes I am familiar with where is the poo search. What I used to find hard was when BiteyDog used to do such watery poo that I had no hope of getting it in a bag even if I found it. I used to have to bury it instead with whatever I could find Sad

steppemum BiteyDog was a little shit as a teenager with recall so I have been there and it was horrible.

OP posts:
steppemum · 10/04/2018 20:21

bad dog design fault dog poo is same colour as autumn leaves, brown grass, dead plants etc.....

blueskyinmarch · 10/04/2018 22:24

Hunt the poo - my favourite game. We live on a golf course and i don't like to leave poo's but sometimes you just cannot locate them!

We are a week in from Blueskydogs op. She is doing fine and seems to have accepted the lack of walks. She does look slightly sad but i am trying to ignore her wee despondent face!

Pradaqueen · 10/04/2018 23:04

I am the vets... dog is still keeping up his war with the fox and appears to have ripped his toenail poor thing 😩

BiteyShark · 11/04/2018 07:41

Poor PradaDog Sad. We had something similar where he was limping and turned out to have fractured his nail.

OP posts:
noitsnotteatimeyet · 11/04/2018 07:47

Teatimetoller sends commiserating licks to Pradadog - he ripped his toenail once and it was very sore

I’m a firm believer in poo karma - if I can’t find one of teatimetoller’s then I’ll make sure I bag and bin the next ‘stray’ poo I see

BiteyShark · 11/04/2018 07:49

BiteyDog seems to have a knack for treading in other dogs poo Sad. I have to often wash his paws when we get back home.
