Yay to progress! With older dog and pup being in your house together I'm sure it will be fine. (don't get a puppy cam to spy on them. That way madness lies! Grin)

BiteyShark · 05/07/2017 08:24

Don't get me started with dog cam. I have a baby monitor to watch him sleep at night, it's not that far off getting pup cam installed everywhere Grin

Yokohamajojo · 05/07/2017 11:32

We were dithering on and on about holiday and what to do with dog so in the end we got him a passport so he's coming camping with us in France Smile wish us luck!

When he is a bit older I hope we can find friends/home borders/kennels to suit!

Let him have a play with his doggy friends in the park last night and he was super good and came away when called. Then we met a 4 months old pup who just wouldn't leave him alone when we walked off, nothing aggressive or anything just wanted to play. In the end her owner had to get her. Felt a tiny bit smug because the owner had just said how good she was off lead and how she just followed her around...

Luckily I don't have to worry about kennels for Bluepuppy until next February. To be honest I can't really afford the trip with all the money I've spent in the Whipetty one lately butI feel like I really need a proper break to look forward to.

Lovely to hear everyone's pups being good and getting more mature. I swear Bluepuppy look bigger every day. Hardly a surprise with the amount he eats Grin

I'm trying one less day of daycare next week with my parents checking on him those days.

How often does everyone else wash their pups? I'm washing Bluepuppy about once a week at the moment. He sleeps in my bed so really needs to be clean. At least having such a short coat means he dries off super quickly Smile

BiteyShark · 05/07/2017 12:06

Mine is getting rinsed down virtually everyday with a shampoo when he goes to the groomers every 5-6 weeks. He runs through long grass/forest fern and then dives into any boggy area he can find so if I didn't rinse him down he would be a big muddy mess. Bless him he now runs straight to the bath after our walk expecting a shower Grin

Loving hearing all the holiday plans! I win 'most pathetic dog owner' award there as I've actually cancelled going on holiday (dh is still taking the kids) as it just felt too early. Dh's parents were going to have him, but they haven't had lots of time with him, he's likely to be hitting adolescence any minute now, and I just feel he's too little to leave with someone who doesn't know him. Dh and the kids have managed to cut the holiday a little short, so we all get a week down in Devon together too - but I am feeling like a bit of a puppy-slave, but the alternative is just too stressful!

Towelpup is an infrequent washer, blue ;-) He's not wild about the whole thing so we've been taking it slowly, but try and wash his legs and beard every week at least!

Any hints and tips on nail clipping?? He was great to start with, but has taken against the clippers, and runs off when they come near now!

BiteyShark · 05/07/2017 13:30

I let my groomer or vet do his nails as I don't trust myself not to cut him (very clumsy in real life Blush)

Wolfiefan · 05/07/2017 13:30

I haven't even tried clipping nails! Shock
Today I was told she was a huge disappointment. Weird man. She didn't want to greet him. Can't say I blame her! Grin

BiteyShark · 05/07/2017 13:32

Sounds like she is a good judge of character Wolfie Grin

Wolfiefan · 05/07/2017 13:32

Oh and clumsy? I fell out the front door this morning. Twisted my ankle and ended up sprawled on the door. Dropped lead. Pup freaked. Disaster. Swollen ankle. It's not blue so it's not broken right?!

Yokohamajojo · 05/07/2017 14:10

We have only washed yokopup with shampoo once as he came home with us at 8 weeks. He doesn't smell or go in water except for the clumsy fall the other day! He has his first grooming appointment next week though and as he's a wired hair terrier he needs to be stripped. He loves me brushing him though so hopefully he'll be ok!

Would not do the claws myself...it was £8 I think in our pets at home so went with that

Sorry to hear about your fall wolfie hoping for a speedy recovery x

BiteyShark · 05/07/2017 17:47

Oh no Wolfie hope the ankle is not too serious Sad

Wolfiefan · 05/07/2017 18:00

Sore and swollen. But managed a lovely hobble round the arboretum before it gets too hot. I'm such a klutz! Blush

Gaelach · 06/07/2017 11:34

Hi everyone, can I join? Had my wee gaelpup for a few days now, he's 14 weeks. He's my first ever pup so it's a learning curve for us both. I've Googled and Googled and Googled but some real life advice from dog owners would be great! I'm really concerned he isn't getting enough rest. He barely sleeps during the day, although he sleeps all night and doesn't even need up for a pee. I'm sort of engineering quiet times for him to encourage him to rest but is isn't interested! Do your pups sleep much during the day?

BiteyShark · 06/07/2017 11:38

Welcome Gaelach. I had to give my puppy enforced sleeps when he was very young. Essentially he used to get very bitey and hyper when he was overtired so a quick pop in his crate would cause him to fall asleep and he was much calmer afterwards.

bluetongue · 06/07/2017 11:39

Feel better wolfie. I'm a klutz but somehow manage not to injure myself.

I would recommend getting someone who knows what they're doing to clip nails. Even with experience with cat claws and horse hooves I managed to cut Bluepupp's too short. They bleed everywhere and it's not a pretty sight.

I've been in touch with the woman that runs my local whippet facebook page about getting a whippet to test Bluepuppy out with at my place. She thinks she'll be able to help. See, Facebook can be used for good as well as evil Grin

bluetongue · 06/07/2017 11:44

Your pup sounds like mine Gaelach No advice but it does seem that some pups nap through the day like they're meant to while the constantly busy ones don't always know when to stop. What sort of puppy have you got?

Wolfiefan · 06/07/2017 14:44

Be glad he's sleeping at night! They don't all!!! As long as he's not being artificially kept awake (eg by kids playing ball) pup will get enough sleep.
Booked wolfie in for claw clipping next week. Was nice knowing you all! Shock

towelpintpeanuts · 06/07/2017 16:10

Lol - we are obviously very radical doing nails ourselves - we cut our guinea pigs and rabbits claws for years as practice, so dh has got pretty good at it. Although we only ever seem to buy pets with black claws to make things trickier!!

Good luck with the whippet-mate, blue: do let us know when the trial day is so we can be keeping everything crossed for you!

Gaelach: at the risk of telling you what you really DONT want to hear - mine usually sleeps from when we get back from his walk (around 9.30/10) through to when the kids come home (about 3.30/4) - he has a brief stretch/wee at lunch, but that's pretty much it! I work from home, so he sees me settle at the laptop and knows nothing much is happening! I can't say I've done anything clever to make that happen except be very, very dull!! BUT if we are out/at someone's house, he doesnt settle anymore: we had lunch at friends the other Sunday and I just got him to settle on his mat quietly when a squirrel ran past the window. All bets were off!!

BiteyShark · 07/07/2017 09:07

Well our morning walk was interesting. The only way back to the car is a brigde across a stream which many large scary angry cows with calfs were blocking. Every time I tried to encourage them to move they started mooing and looking like they would attack me and the dog. I backed off and waited ages for them to move and then we still had a scary walk back near them. Another hot day here so think that will be our only walk as will play in the garden later where he can jump in the paddling pool if he gets too hot.

Yokohamajojo · 07/07/2017 09:15

We also had an interesting walk this morning, it was different from the normal routine as my husband is going away this weekend and he usually takes him after his breakfast to do the school run and then a run through the park.

This morning I had to take him much earlier before his breakfast and all he wanted to do was eating grass, I literally had to drag him around the park. Not sure if he was just hungry or it just being too early!

Another hot topic among the dog walkers in our local park is that a group of travellers have set up camp with a couple of horses as well. Everyone is up in arms but so far there hasn't been any problems so I am keeping schtum

BiteyShark · 07/07/2017 09:18

Yoko when its his day care day I take him early along the roads for a quick walk and mine tries to eat every bit of long grass he walks past. At training I have also noticed most of the dogs sit and nibble at the grass so maybe it's a tasty treat for them Grin

Yokohamajojo · 07/07/2017 10:08

Bitey Yes I know that he does like his grass but this morning it was like an obsession, he didn't even want his treats it was only grass Smile like a little cow he was

Gaelach · 07/07/2017 10:09

Thanks for all the advice! I think some of the novelty of a new house has worn off and he's a good bit more chilled this morning. He didn't follow me to the kitchen, he just looked up from his wee crate and then put his head down again. Honest to God he's so cute. He's getting his next injection on Saturday so I'll be able to take him out for walks soon, and I've booked him in to puppy school. Have any of your pups gone?

BiteyShark · 07/07/2017 10:14

Yoko maybe it was a protest at no breakfast Grin and don't talk about cows I am still too traumatised from this morning Grin

Gaelach I did some puppy socialisation classes and some puppy training classes. Is that what you mean by puppy school?
