Gaelach
We took our pup to puppy classes and it was really useful especially for me who have never owned a dog before. My one focussed a lot on recall training and to focus on you and not all other distractions.

Wolfiefan · 07/07/2017 16:21

We did 6 weeks of puppy classes. Then a retake! Blush We have now moved up to the next stage including work off lead around other dogs.
Today we went outlet shopping. Summer weather so bought a winter dog walking coat. Was £150 now £50!
But I have a cankle. May have overdone it! Shock

Ouch Wolfie that looks painful.

Wolfiefan · 07/07/2017 16:28

T'is just a flesh wound! Grin
My fault. Instead of resting and icing etc we went shopping today. And many years ago I fell catastrophically down the stairs. Broke ankle. Refused (it's a long story) to admit breakage and walked about for four weeks. Finally x rayed four weeks later and in trying to get the image they ruptured the ligament (which was hanging by a thread!) never been the same since.

aliasjoey · 07/07/2017 19:57

Puppy: I'm gonna play with this pot of herbs! You want to join in?
FirstDog: No! You must not do that! Bad Things happen if we make a mess. Owners shout!
Puppy: really? They won't shout at ME, I'm too cute
FirstDog: dear god, we are DEAD
Puppy: I'll pee on it, so they'll know it wasnt you!

bluetongue · 08/07/2017 10:00

Love the commentary Alias Grin

I finally decided to email Bluepuppy's breeder about his issues. He's given me details of a whippet owner in my area that can hopefully help with providing a dog for a play date. I probably should have contacted the breeder sooner but I felt really awkward about admitting everything wasn't working out perfectly. It actually feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders a bit.

Me and Bluepuppy have been busy doing not much more than basic housework and mumsnet ting today. I've been sick the last two weeks and am Exhausted. Just a cold but I've got a hideous cough and have also managed to hurt my neck in my sleep. Probably with all the coughing.

With all his day care days it won't hurt either of us to have a day when we don't leave the house. Off to lunch and a walk on the beach for him and me tomorrow.

BiteyShark · 08/07/2017 11:27

Whispers so BiteyPup can't hear but I think we might be over the hump with his teenage behaviour as recently he has started to get a bit better. Still a way to go but it is definitely much better than 1-2 months ago.

Haha aliasjoey they do like to get up to mischief Grin

Glad your feeling better blue after contacting the breeder and hope your cold goes soon.

bluetongue · 08/07/2017 11:51

That's great Bitey. You've survived puppyhood. How old is Biteypup now?

BiteyShark · 08/07/2017 11:58

He's just over 9 months now and has stopped putting on weight so think we are at full growth as well. It was quite funny today as someone apologised for their dogs trying to distract my 'well behaved dog' as I was getting him to sit and stay whilst they ran about. If only they knew how badly behaved he has been Grin

Think your day of rest sounds fun. Often I find they like the odd day of chilling especially if other days are more full on.

Soubriquet · 08/07/2017 14:52

Look what my prize pup Grin

She got

1st in Judges choice
3rd in child handler
5th in pedigree puppy
5th in best condition.

Very chuffed

Wow, well done soubri-pup, that's a lot of rosettes! Fantastic! And good news on being over the teen-hump, bitey - or at least starting to get there! Blue - that sounds really positive - it's daft how we don't want to 'show ourselves up' in front of breeders isn't it? They must get a pretty good idea of those owners who are doing their best for their pups- and you certainly tick that box. Hope you manage to get something sorted with the babysitting whippet, and enjoy your chill day. Hope you and your ankle are having a rest too, wolfie!

Our kids are away for the weekend, so me and DH took towel-pup for a lovely walk by the Thames, then had brunch at a cafe overlooking the river - such a lovely morning, and just how I imagined dog ownership being :-)

Wolfiefan · 08/07/2017 15:54

Um no. Not resting. Been to the arboretum for a morning walk!
Wow at all the rosettes. Amazing haul! Clever pup!
Yay Bitey pup.
Blue. A good breeder would rather hear about any issues. I emailed mine about separation anxiety and a million other things too. A bad owner doesn't actually admit to problems. That's when the serious issues start. A good owner isn't one with a miraculously perfect dog but rather one who tries to address issues as they arise.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Grin

BiteyShark · 08/07/2017 16:06

Wow Soubriquet look at all of them. Well done Grin, think that calls for a special dinner treat.

towel your walk sounds lovely. When I am walking really early across fields admiring the view I too have a similar thought.

Wolfie hope you get your ankle up and rested in between, can't have you off your feet.

Soubriquet · 08/07/2017 16:08

I thought of you today wolfie

There were 3 Irish wolfhounds there

2 adults and one pup. One very large pup but a pup all the same

May even have been a relative of wolfie pup. Her brothers and sisters are spread far and wide!

towelpintpeanuts · 08/07/2017 17:39

: get that leg up on the sofa for a bit, missus!

Wolfiefan · 08/07/2017 18:36

Tried using wolfie pup as a footstool. She chewed me then moved! Grin

bluetongue · 08/07/2017 23:21

Um, Wolfie, why are you 'going for a walk' on that ankle you daft woman Grin

My neck still hurts and I'm still coughing. Groan.

Nice rosettes Sou. Guess pup's back in your good books then Smile

Apparently one of the Whippeys owned by the woman nearby is Bluepuppy's grandfather!

Anyone else have a bottomless pit puppy? I haven't been using the feeding guide on the dry food packet as I'd read they usually overestimate how much your dog needs. I had a look at it this morning and Bluepuppy is eating more than recommended Shock He is also still eating four times a day most days.

I guess going to day care up to four times a week will burn lots of energy. He's definately not fat! I don't even want to think about how much your girl eats Wolfie. To think I'm considering getting a second dog ...

Wolfiefan · 08/07/2017 23:25

Today pup managed about half what the packet of dried food says she should have. Bit over 300g and treats. Pup wolfhounds grow rapidly and eat loads. Adults do mainly bugger all and supposedly eat about as much as a GSD.
Walking? She's a mummy's girl. I don't trust her to go with anyone else without me. She weighs over 50kg and can be bouncy and scared of people. I manage her and her surroundings quite carefully. So no choice really. When I hurt my ankle I passed lead to DH and she went bonkers until he let her come to me for a cuddle. She likes to sit on my knee and be reassured. Grin

Yokohamajojo · 08/07/2017 23:35

Took pup has been a very good boy today! Husband away with the car on a jolly so on my own with kids and dogSmile

Had to go on a bus to youngest DS football training first time and he was very good

So hot here today though, had an early evening walk and met our American Akita friend and they had a good old tussle and yokopup came away when I called! So happy as this is why I haven't let him play with other dogs before

Well done soub and how's the little Tyson doing?

BiteyShark · 09/07/2017 05:31

blue mine struggles to eat as much as he should by the guide but I feed him one with high meat content and was selected for his energy levels as they recommend different depending on how many hours a day he is active. If yours is pooing ok and not putting on any weight then that is how much he needs but yes will be expensive if double the amount Grin.

Wolfie apart from his day care who have had him from a pup I would not trust anyone else to walk mine without me even DH. I need to get my feet looked at but putting it off as I know they will say rest but you can't when you have a dog to walk.

Yoko sounds like yokopup was a dream yesterday. Good pup Grin

bluetongue · 09/07/2017 08:53

It's not double the amount Bitey but certainly a large amount of food per day.I'd like to try and move him to another dry food as it's technically for puppies of small breeds, not Whippets but I'm loathe to change as it was battle to find something he liked.

I'll ask his vet this Friday if it's still okay for him. He does seem to be pooing more than I think he should but not sure if it's a problem.

iPhoneAddiction · 09/07/2017 09:54

Can I join you all? I haven't read the thread yet but will be doing to see what I'm letting myself if for.

We are due to collect our Lhaso Apso in a couple of weeks once she is 8 weeks old.

We already have a 3 year old cat so I'm praying our cat gets along with her.

I'm excited but also prepared for sleepless nights, mess, things being destroyed and lots of training!

bluetongue · 09/07/2017 10:26

Welcome Iphone Smile

How exciting to be getting a cute new addition to your household. Don't worry too much about the tales her of big problems ( like mine). Chances are you and pup will be just fine.

Wolfiefan · 09/07/2017 12:29

Welcome. iPhone. Blue cross have a great info sheet called how to introduce your dog to your cat.
