Anyone watching?

I saw the gun dog group last night. I know there's a lot of controversy surrounding breed standards and stuff but it was lovely watching those dogs obviously enjoying themselves with their owners.

Dionysuss · 06/03/2015 20:44

I'm watching avidly. I have tickets for Sunday and best in show. In ridiculously excited.Grin

atonofwashing · 06/03/2015 20:54

I'm watching too! I saw Dublin win the gundog group and cried as he held his rosette in his mouth! Soooo lovely.

Ms adorable - really missing dd this week. Cry all the time when crafts Is on ....
We used to tease dd about going to crufts! There was no way on this earth, she'd have made it there!.....
Xxx

Arkkorox · 06/03/2015 20:58

Not happy with that gsd :( why on earth do they insist on the horrible backs. The malamute is my friends dogs brother, soooo handsome!

Buttholelane · 06/03/2015 21:17

I'm watching but feeling really upset actually.

I never noticed it before but the number of stress signs are astounding!

Whale eyes, trembling, tails between legs, super tight, tense mouths and rigid bodies, ears pinned back.
The Malinois was just heartbreaking.

I am not a dog showing fan but I like crusts purely because I like seeing all the different dogs but really feeling quite disturbed.

Another thing I really don't like is all the yellow teeth I am seeing.
I am so fussy about my dog's dental health and would have expected a shoe dogs teeth to bd cleaner zinc whiter than anyone else's.

Buttholelane · 06/03/2015 21:18

Bloody iPhone, crufts not crusts obvs.
Show dog, not shoe!

Bubble2bubble · 06/03/2015 21:40

Agree Butthole :( shockingly stressed dogs. I just turned on in time to see the Malinois, just awful.
Saw a photo earlier of a Chesapeake just standing with his tail between his legs. I can't imagine loving your dog and putting them through that.

MishMooshAndMogwai · 06/03/2015 21:53

I went a few years ago and was just appalled, I've not watched it since. The kennel club, breeders and owners should all be ashamed.

Bubble2bubble · 06/03/2015 21:55

And the GSD makes me want to cry

MinceSpy · 06/03/2015 21:56

I can't get over how old and frail Peter Purvis now is.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 06/03/2015 22:01

Hiya atonofwashing, I know what you mean. There was a black cocker in the gun dog group and that black retriever that won looked so much like my old boy that I had a lump in my throat. Even though he was a cocker. Grin

MostAmused · 06/03/2015 22:24

I hate the breed standards too. And I maintain that my GSDxSpringer mutt is the fairest in the land :D

But I do love the agility. Those dogs really look like they're enjoying themselves.

SistersOfPercy · 07/03/2015 00:08

I was genuinely shocked by that gsd. I grew up around them (I had a long haired as a child) and the dogs I knew in the 70s and 80s bore little resemblence to the one in the ring tonight.
It seemed like it was cowering with its gait. I found it quite sad really.

I shall be cheering on the Scottie dogs today though! biased

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 07/03/2015 00:22

I didn't like the way the handlers/owners held their dogs by the loose skin of their necks and mouths whilst the judges examined them. Is that normal? One or two of them looked like they had a pretty firm grip.

SistersOfPercy · 07/03/2015 00:27

Did you see one of them have a snap whilst he was being held by the scruff? Don't think he was impressed with handler or judge tbh.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 07/03/2015 00:59

No missed that. The dcs wanted to watch a film tonight and I got outvoted. Will try and watch it tomorrow.

Adarajames · 07/03/2015 01:56

I've always avoided it as hate the breed ta darks and the fact that the bastards contribute I the horrid of puppy farming by giving them pedigrees, made mistake of watching some today as we do agility and some of our club are there somewhere, but totally livid when saw that poor GSD, hip dysplasia is only way to get a sloping back like that Angry and then the stressed ones and the lovely malonois who was hating every minute of it! Just GGGGRRRRRRRRRR!!! Angry

muttynutty · 07/03/2015 06:44

Live stream here lots of unstressed and happy agility dogs! although why they can't sort out the crufts carpet is another issue.

VeryVeryDarkGrey · 07/03/2015 07:04

By the time they're in best in group the dogs have been there all day. Afaik you cant pull your dog out without approval from the judge (not 100% sure on this i dont show) and there has to be a good reason to do so. My mums dog turns it on and off like a switch and sometimes she doesnt know how he will act until hes in the ring.

Found the YKC agility judging a bit patchy. One dog stepped on the long jump without fault and one girl grabbed her dog at the 3rd or so jump to reposition it and just got 5 faults for a refusal instead of elimination

ender · 07/03/2015 09:20

Butt - I noticed the yellow teeth as well, my dog's teeth look dazzling in comparison.

Arkkorox · 07/03/2015 09:38

Is anyone watching now? That poor young girl handling that OTT giant schnauzer!!

OP posts:
toboldlygo · 07/03/2015 15:47

Adarajames the GSD in question has more health tests than you can shake a stick at - there are many problems here but hip dysplasia is not one of them.

Please don't think this is a defence, I'm not a GSD person and have no pro-slopey-back agenda, just wanted to correct that statement.

HoraceCope · 07/03/2015 17:34

thanks for the link, i do like the agility

Mrsderekshepard · 07/03/2015 18:56

What channel is it on during the day? I've only seen it advertised in the evenings

Arkkorox · 07/03/2015 20:10

It's on YouTube, they stream it live each day.
