I did a bit of showing when I first had dogs - my first two, a golden and a flat coated retriever, absolutely LOVED showing, the golden in particular - but she didn't have a hope
. The Flatcoat did a bit of winning. My next Flatcoat was from the top breeder - had a real chance of doing well but it was clear she hated it - so we stopped showing completely. You can't show a dog that is not enjoying itself - it just refuses to move or gets grumpy. I've had retriever breeds which don't have exaggerated characteristics - they're bred for health and temperament. I'm rooting for the Flatcoat of course, he's gorgeous -
