Anyone watching?

Well it's all kicked off about the way the Scotties's handler picked it up by the neck and tail. There's a couple of statements from The Kennel Club and Crufts on Facebook about it. There's a lot of comments!

Arkkorox · 09/03/2015 13:08

I've just been reading through. Lots of very angry people!

Koalafications · 09/03/2015 13:13

I didn't see her handling him. What did she do wrong?

SistersOfPercy · 09/03/2015 13:18

Facebook statement from Crufts:

We want to address the posts we have had regarding the handling of last nights Scottish Terrier, Knopa. It was made clear to the handler at the show that it is not acceptable to pick a dog up in this way, and despite repeated requests not to do so, she went ahead. The handler is from the USA where it is customary to pick up terriers in this way, but it has no place at Crufts and this is put in writing to all handlers before the show

Arkkorox · 09/03/2015 13:19

Koala she lifted the dog by the neck and tail

OP posts:
Catsrus · 09/03/2015 13:30

She is American and used their pick up method, I have to say I didn't notice because when I used to show ALL the terrier breeds were picked up that way - good to hear the tide is turning against that, but a bit daft to have it as unacceptable but say it's not a rule. I know they are judging the dog not the handler but at what point does the handler's choosing to do something they are told is unacceptable cross over into behaviour that attracts a disqualification? WTF does 'unacceptable' mean if the behaviour is accepted with no penalty Confused.

Slippersandacuppa · 09/03/2015 13:30

Right. She ignores the rules, she has the title taken away from her.

Koalafications · 09/03/2015 13:36

Oh right! Sorry, that was in the previous post.

How on earth can she win Best in Show after that?!

Slippersandacuppa · 09/03/2015 13:38

And the dead red setter and David Holzman beating his dog in the car park. Dog lovers???

Catsrus · 09/03/2015 13:39

it's not a rule it's advice - evidently! and if it is a rule shouldn't the stewards have been informing the judge?

SistersOfPercy · 09/03/2015 13:47

Right. She ignores the rules, she has the title taken away from her

Except she didn't win the title. The dog did and that is hardly fair on the owners.

Koalafications · 09/03/2015 13:47

Apparently Jagger the red setter was poisoned by an animal rights activist. Evil thing to do.

Arkkorox · 09/03/2015 13:49

PETA turned up at the end of BIS. They had a banner that said ' mutts not crufts' or something like that, the bloke got taken out by about 6 security guards

OP posts:
Slippersandacuppa · 09/03/2015 14:02

They could give the dog the title or something else but she should be stripped of any of the glory. Rules/ advice - it's just their way of getting round it. It's not on and they should do something. Much like a jockey incurring a ban for overuse of a whip.

InDawgNito · 09/03/2015 15:04

David Holzman caught beating his dog?
Where was that posted, I cant find it.

InDawgNito · 09/03/2015 15:11

Ah found it...
Don't look if your easily upset

SistersOfPercy · 09/03/2015 15:20

That photo can be construed several ways, one of which is him lifting dogs collar with left hand to clip on lead with right.
Any actual proof of this other than a dubious photo?

Catsrus · 09/03/2015 15:21

This is the tweet with the photo of the man mistreating the dog. They say they identified him via his name on the lanyard - but I can't read it when I zoom in and I have a high quality display. There are at least two names doing the round on twitter - I do think people need to be careful, it's very easy to mis identify people who look similar. twitter.com/judysale23/status/574674202407624705?s=04

InDawgNito · 09/03/2015 15:27

Sisters here...

The dog in the is being strangled by twisting its collar thus the bulging eyes and lolling tongue.

Catsrus · 09/03/2015 15:33

more photos from the original witnesses of the event - it does look bad to be honest, looks like he lost it with the poor dog

Koalafications · 09/03/2015 15:36

I don't think I could look at those photos. Animal abuse is just too much for me Sad

People who abuse animals are just evil.

InDawgNito · 09/03/2015 15:44

Many people use dogs as ego props at shows.
If that ego prop lets the owner down...
well lets just say that dog wasn't the first and won't be the last to get a hiding some correction in some quiet corner of a show ground.

VivaLeBeaver · 09/03/2015 15:47

The owner of the Scottie is on fb saying its a bit rich the KC moaning about it when the judge was also lifting dogs up by their tail.

Crufts
SistersOfPercy · 09/03/2015 16:01

She has a point Viva.
It's good enough for KC judges but not for anyone else? If it's unacceptable for handlers then it's unacceptable for judges as well.

FWIW, whilst I don't condone it, terriers like the Scott were designed to be pulled out of rabbit holes by their tails. This is why they have strong, sturdy, carrot tails.

VivaLeBeaver · 09/03/2015 16:05

I guess the problem is that although the dogs can withstand it fairly well it may still not be comfortable for them. I've got a terrier type dog with a carrot tail but wouldn't pick him up like that.

The judges need to stop it as well.
