My pup was castrated yesterday due to a lost testicle - we were advised this was sensible as it could cause cancer in later life if not removed. I collected him from the vets at 2pm and he has been vomiting ever since - all through the night, all day today. He can't even keep water down. He is clearly disorientated and occasionally gets up and tries to run somewhere before falling over.
I am so worried and upset. I've called the vets and am taking him at 3:30 but sat here and just wanted some support really before i go.

I've never wanted to give a puppy a cuddle as much as Snoopy! Please post a pic, if only he knew how much love is out there for him, I'm sure he'd be happy!

Please post a pic when you can, I have a mini schnauzer and I keep looking at her, thinking of Snoopy.

Keep getting better little one, enjoy your bath Grin

LEMmingaround · 22/02/2014 10:47

If he doesn't bother the stitches then just put the collar on when you have to leave him. Enjoy your walk :)

I just found and read this thread through, so happy he's home with you and doing better! Smile
Did you get the operation notes from the 1st vet? I can't believe how badly they treated you and Snoopy, I hope he gets what he deserves.

MaddestMother · 22/02/2014 13:29

Just another thought, if he's really not happy with his new food, it might be worth looking at this:

www.nutriment.co/low-purine-phosphorus-formula/

My 2 (ancient) yorkies have never been so excited about eating as they have been since I moved them on to the senior version.

namechange74 · 22/02/2014 15:46

Hello all, just back from MIL's, dropping our DD off for a sleepover. Snoopy saw his cousins (4 x labs) and was EXACTLY the same as pre op... trying to hump one of the boys - he is gay we think ;-) so glad to see some things haven't changed!

He hasn't eaten half of his breakfast yet which is causing me angst... especially as he's so thin. Thanks Maddest i'll check with the vet if they're happy for me to try it on him, he really isn't happy with what he's got!

Hi Lem Smile he is giving the stitches a battering. We are having to yell at him but really don't want to make him wear the collar all the time so will just put it on when we go out as you say.

Tried to post a pic several times, emailed MNHQ who mailed back to say they're trying to rectify the issue. I will do it as soon as i can and let you all know it's up there.

Hope everyone is having a lovely saturday - nice and sunny here. We are out tonight, Snoopy will have his collar on to watch the telly on his own - hope he'll be ok Hmm

Pants are a great option rather than the cone. Most of my patients wear outfits after surgery as I much prefer them to cones.

WowserBowser · 22/02/2014 16:38

Oh thank god he's ok. Hope he continues to improve NC. Looking forward to seeing a photo!

sisterofmercy · 22/02/2014 16:46

Just delurking to say I am so glad he is beginning to recover and that you've found a good vet at last. Deffo report that last one - more power to your elbow.

I have also googled Schnoodles and had to bite my knuckles at the cuteness on show. Lordy.

Gileswithachainsaw · 22/02/2014 17:10

Arf @ gay dog!!!

He just gets sweeter and sweeter :o

Glad he's doing ok. Still rooting for you little guy

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 22/02/2014 21:24

Just rtwt...shocking treatment from 1st vet...is he even qualified?!

Another one here praying and rooting for Snoopy puppy's full recovery. Thanks

namechange74 · 23/02/2014 00:46

maddest and other experts, can i try any food for him that says it's for kidney problems? He hates what he has and is skin and bones, he was sick again earlier too so i have to find something he will eat Confused

Checked in after just reading and delighted to heart! Xx

MaddestMother · 23/02/2014 09:12

I wouldn't say I'm an expert but I know he needs to eat to help him recover. I found this: dogaware.com/health/kidneydiet
Try making him some food yourself and see if he'll eat it. That link gives you an idea of things to avoid for him.
I think he needs a bit of pampering Smile

Gileswithachainsaw · 23/02/2014 09:18

Oh no sorry he was sick. Snoopy, naughty dog you know your not supposed to be doing that!!!! Please eat for us your a brave dog you can eat for us!!

namechange74 · 23/02/2014 09:47

Thanks maddest, i'm making him some pasta at the moment, seems like that's ok from the link you sent me. We are having roast lamb today so that could be a winner for the little lad too Grin
I'll let you know how we get on,
PS that other link you sent me, is that retailer on-line only? wondering if we can find anywhere to get something today for him - Petsathome don't stock it, only the Hills prescription diet he is on which he won't eat. If it's delivery, how long does it take to arrive please? is it like tripe?

OP posts:
namechange74 · 23/02/2014 09:57

He's just eaten the pasta quicker than you can imagine, Just did a tiny saucer of it with a bit of butter and some fat from parma ham - all things that seem ok from that link. I've just noticed they mention if your dog is 'uremic' which i think Snoops may be - that he can't have much protein. God i wish i'd quizzed the vet on Friday!

MaddestMother · 23/02/2014 11:11

I'm so glad he's eaten something Grin sounds like he just doesn't like the Hills food!! The nutriment is available in some pet shops, tends to be in the independent ones where they have as freezer section. It's a complete raw diet, I moved my dogs on to it when my boy was diagnosed with cancer almost 18 months ago, I can't say if it's totally down to the diet but our vet is amazed at how well he's doing Smile
I'm a fan of raw feeding but I know it sounds pretty gross. P@H do natures menu in their freezer, you might be able to find something suitable for Snoopy in there.
I looked up pictures of schnoodles and let out a little squeal, far too cute!!!

namechange74 · 23/02/2014 14:59

Hi, Thank youMaddest - also had some good advice from catsdogsandbabies to get food down him for now rather than worry too much about the diet, she thinks it's more important that he's eating something. SO he's had 3 small saucers of pasta today now, mixed with a little bit of his kidney diet food. I'll have a look on line and try a few different diets for him til i find one likes. Will come back on tomorrow and let you all know what the specialist says following his ultrasound xx

Gileswithachainsaw · 23/02/2014 20:59

MaddestMother · 24/02/2014 08:46

Hope it's good news for you today, sending positive vibes Smile xxx

namechange74 · 24/02/2014 09:02

Morning, thank you Giles

Poor Snoop had a poo, wee and was sick in the night, we think he is naturally a bit off in terms of his timings! but although he was sick, it wasn't everything he'd eaten yesterday so that's something.

Off to the specialist at 3:30 so we will have a good idea of his future after that and i'll post an update.

namechange74 · 24/02/2014 09:03
