My pup was castrated yesterday due to a lost testicle - we were advised this was sensible as it could cause cancer in later life if not removed. I collected him from the vets at 2pm and he has been vomiting ever since - all through the night, all day today. He can't even keep water down. He is clearly disorientated and occasionally gets up and tries to run somewhere before falling over.
I am so worried and upset. I've called the vets and am taking him at 3:30 but sat here and just wanted some support really before i go.

I'm so happy to hear your good news op, this all sounds really positive Smile
You must be so relieved to have him back home, is he eating better now?

Namechange - I lost your thread for one reason and just had to do a search as I have been wondering how Snoopy was doing. I am so pleased that his bloods are back to normal Smile. Long may this continue.

shallweshop · 27/02/2014 11:28

for some reason!

Hello all. Just an update and shameless request for advice. SO Snoopy is on the mend Grin, his last blood tests came back borderline so we were told to re-test in a month. Unfortunately our insurers have said they won't pay out given that the renal failure was a result of the castration - the anaesthetic and non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs. Now, does anyone feel i could attempt to get sh1t vets to pay our fees? they are in the region of £2.5k i think.... any advice very gratefully received!

Hi NC, so glad he is on the mend. That is proper crap of your insurers, just because they don't pay out for the actual castration, I can't believe they won't pay for unexpected complications! The feckers. Who are you insured with? I wonder if it might be worth asking them to review it?

I'm not sure how you might go about asking the first vets for payment of fees. Have they admitted liability? Have you made an official complaint? Perhaps you could call the RCVS and ask them for advice?

Hopefully someone with some legal knowledge will be able to help.

VetNurse · 20/03/2014 20:59

Who are you insured with? I would argue that they can't prove that he didn't have renal failure pre castrate!

Marrow · 21/03/2014 11:59

I'm glad he is continuing to improve. I'm shocked your insurer won't pay. Who are they with so we can all avoid them? I've just checked my insurance documents. Whilst spaying and castration are not covered it specifically says that treatment needed due to complications arising from spaying and castration are covered.

Have you checked your policy for exclusions? Did you speak to them on the phone? If so is it possible that the advisor advised you wrongly?

If you really aren't covered then I would definitely seek compensation from the first vet. His treatment of your puppy was shocking. Check your home insurance policy to see if you have legal cover.
