My husband and I discovered this at Xmas after getting Season 1 DVD from his elderly uncle (how cool is said elderly uncle) and we are completely addicted. We're on Season 4 now - anyone else addicted too?

We watched this quite a while ago and DH developed a quite embaressing Baltimore patois for a while.
He'd say 'you feel me?'
and call everyone he liked 'natural police'
There were more, I'll have to have a think

mehdismummy · 17/03/2010 19:32

nice assumethepostion nice

assumetheposition · 17/03/2010 19:35

Pfft, I thought it was Prop Joe's superior drugs that they gave up the corners for.

Loujalou · 17/03/2010 19:41

Natural police. That was a good phrase. That and sssssssssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiittttttttttttttteeeeeeeeeeeeee

I loved Kima too. When she was arguing with the missus and Daniels was too and they showed them in parallel. Liked Ronnie too. D'Angelo was a great character too. Herc and Carv when they were the jokers. I miss it.

notyummy · 17/03/2010 19:42

It is ACE.

Loujalou · 17/03/2010 19:42

Prop Jo made me laugh too. In fact it was littered with so many good characters, it was hard to keep track. I liked Carcetti's right hand man - not for looks though.

mehdismummy · 17/03/2010 19:45

"that will teach you to give a fuck when it ain't your turn to give a fuck." classic

tallulahbelly · 17/03/2010 19:49

Come on Mehdi, you've learned it by heart.

What's that Omar bit about looking for the king?

assumetheposition · 17/03/2010 19:51

"When you come at the king, you'd best not miss"

is my particular favourite. I use it with DS1!

kylesmybaby · 17/03/2010 19:52

DB loves this programme - ive just ordered The Corner for him - not sure if its the same writer but its a mini series which he says is as good as The Wire.

assumetheposition · 17/03/2010 19:52

here but don't click on it if you haven't seen the whole thing as contains lots of spoilers.

tallulahbelly · 17/03/2010 19:57

'You taking notes in a criminal fucking conspiracy?'

notyummy · 17/03/2010 20:07

I found 'Homicide - A Year on the Streets' which is the true life story of a year in the Baltimore homicide squad....written by David Simon, creator of the Wire. It was what the whole series is based on. I got it for 50p in Oxfam!

notyummy · 17/03/2010 20:10

Also, OP - I take your elderly uncle and raise you my elderly parents (70s) who finished all 5 series before we did! The standing joke in our family is that my DBIL (27) needed to use the subtitles and my parents didn't!

PfftTheMagicDragon · 17/03/2010 20:12

assumetheposition - Avon/Stringer were already in the co-op getting druge from Prop Joe, They both approach Marlo several times to get him to join. But he isn't interested and has power because his supply is better.

mehdismummy · 17/03/2010 20:15

method man was in the series too!

Francagoestohollywood · 17/03/2010 20:16

Oh this thread has made my day

I'm so desperate to talk about The Wire and dh is actually getting a bit fed up of me .
I also live in Italy now, where no one really has ever heard of it, so you can imagine my frustration. And my total inability of even remotely resembling a B'more accent.
Ya feel me?

Anyway, I do have a crush on Omar. I'm actually desperate to make a list.
Shall we make lists?

Francagoestohollywood · 17/03/2010 20:17

Method man is cheese, Prop Joe's nephew. Cheese is also said to be Randy's father.

Francagoestohollywood · 17/03/2010 20:18

And I recommend to read the Guardian the wire re-up (though it's full of spoilers)

sickofsocalledexperts · 17/03/2010 20:19

What was that great line where Omar just answers "indeed" to some long spiel - it was perfect, but I can't remember the details. And wasn't Marlo just the coldest most heartless character, yet somewhere on the Extras there is an interview with the actor - who's the sweetest man, and does work with needy children to stop them going down the Marlo path!

DomesticG0ddess · 17/03/2010 20:22

Yes, I'll make lists with you, but am just on Season 4.

notyummy, your elderly are v cool

mrsrufallo, that is v funny

One of my fave lines was "What up, Bird?" - 10 points to the person who tells me the context.

OP posts:
sickofsocalledexperts · 17/03/2010 20:24

That is when Omar greets Bird in court, just before he lies to get him put away for a crime he didn't do (one of the few)

mehdismummy · 17/03/2010 20:26

right a list, on what?

Francagoestohollywood · 17/03/2010 20:28

Sickofsocalledexperts, yes, the actor playing Marlo appears to be very sweet, as does the actor who plays Chris Partlow (I do have a crush on him too!)

Francagoestohollywood · 17/03/2010 20:29

Lists of funniest scenes, moving scenes, fav characters, sexy men, meaniest mothers, fav series etc etc.

Though I do realize there are spoilers.... mmmmmmm
